Musical ensemble

A musical ensemble, also known as a music group, is a group of people who perform instrumental or vocal music, typically known by a distinct name. In classical music, trios or quartets either blend the sounds of musical instrument families (such as piano, strings, and wind instruments) or group together instruments from the same instrument family, such as string ensembles or wind ensembles. In jazz ensembles, the instruments typically include wind instruments (one or more saxophones, trumpets, etc.), one or two chordal "comping" instruments (electric guitar, piano, or organ), a bass instrument (bass guitar or double bass), and a drummer or percussionist. In rock ensembles, usually called rock bands, there are usually guitars and keyboards (piano, electric piano, Hammond organ, synthesizer, etc.) and a rhythm section made up of a bass guitar and drum kit.

Classical chamber music

In Western classical music, smaller ensembles are called chamber music ensembles. The terms duet, trio, quartet, quintet, sextet, septet, octet, nonet and dectet describe groups of two up to ten musicians, respectively. A group of eleven musicians, such as found in The Carnival of the Animals, is called either a hendectet or an undectet (see Latin numerical prefixes). A solo is not an ensemble because it only contains one musician.

+/- (band)

+/-, or Plus/Minus, is an American indietronic band formed in 2001. The band makes use of both electronic and traditional instruments, and has sought to use electronics to recreate traditional indie rock song forms and instrumental structures. The group has released two albums on each of the American indie labels Teenbeat Records and Absolutely Kosher, and their track "All I do" was prominently featured in the soundtrack for the major film Wicker Park. The group has developed a devoted following in Japan and Taiwan, and has toured there frequently. Although many artists append bonus tracks onto the end of Japanese album releases to discourage purchasers from buying cheaper US import versions, the overseas versions of +/- albums are usually quite different from the US versions - tracklists can be rearranged, artwork with noticeable changes is used, and tracks from the US version can be replaced as well as augmented by bonus tracks.

Rede Bandeirantes

Rede Bandeirantes (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈʁedʒi bɐ̃dejˈɾɐ̃tʃis], Bandeirantes Network), officially nicknamed Band, is a television network from Brazil, based in São Paulo. Part of the Grupo Bandeirantes de Comunicação, it aired for the first time in 1967. Currently, is the fourth TV network in Brazil by the ratings.

History

Rede Bandeirantes was founded on May 13, 1967, by João Saad, nephew of São Paulo state governor Ademar de Barros and owner of Rádio Bandeirantes. In 1969 the main TV building suffered a massive fire, which forced Saad to replace his broadcasting equipment with new ones. By 1972, TV Bandeirantes was the first Brazilian television network to fully broadcast in color, the same year that Rede Globo did the same. Later in the 1970s Bandeirantes became a national broadcasting network, helped partly by the hit Saturday afternoon program Clube do Bolinha, the Japan-theme program Japan Pop Show and a 2nd wave of drama programs which started in 1979.

Walter Clark took over the network in 1982 and remodeled the station's programming after Rede Globo, while the network's present logo debuted that same year, with Cyro Del Nero as its designer, the very logo was also shown nationwide given the fact that it - together with Rede Globo - had also at the same time began nationwide satellite broadcasting as well. This was also the same year that the network began a 18-year tradition of broadcasting the biannual electoral debates in the local levels.

Barṣīṣā

Barṣīṣā, (“the man of priestly regalia,” from Aramaic bar, “son,” and ṣīṣaʾ, “gold plate,” referring specifically to the high priest’s breastplate) in Islāmic legend, an ascetic who succumbed to the devil’s temptations and denied God. He had an enormous impact on the entire Muslim world, from Alexandria to Aleppo and Ḥaḍramawt.

Barṣīṣā, a saintly recluse, is given care of a sick woman by her three brothers, who are going on a journey. At the devil’s suggestion Barṣīṣā seduces the woman. When he discovers that she has conceived, Barṣīṣā kills her and buries her body to hide evidence of his sin. The devil, however, reveals the murder to the woman’s brothers. Barṣīṣā, panic-stricken, again succumbs to the devil, renouncing God in return for safety, only to be mocked by Satan, in the words of the Qurʾān (59:16), “I am free of thee; I fear God, the Lord of the Worlds.”

The legend of the recluse, who is nameless and is described variously as a Jewish ascetic or a Christian monk, appeared first in aṭ-Ṭabarī’s commentary on the Qurʾān in the early 10th century. By 985 an author stated that the recluse was called Barṣīṣā, an Aramaic name meaning “he of priestly regalia.” Elements of the story are traced back to Coptic folklore, and the legend survived in the Islāmic world in several forms. By the end of the 18th century, it had made its way to England, where it became the subject of Matthew Gregory Lewis’s novel The Monk.

Bar association

A bar association is a professional body of lawyers. Some bar associations are responsible for the regulation of the legal profession in their jurisdiction; others are professional organizations dedicated to serving their members; in many cases, they are both. In many Commonwealth jurisdictions, the bar association comprises lawyers who are qualified as barristers or advocates in particular, versus solicitors (see bar council). Membership in bar associations may be mandatory or optional for practicing attorneys, depending on jurisdiction.

Etymology

The use of the term bar to mean "the whole body of lawyers, the legal profession" comes ultimately from English custom. In the early 16th century, a railing divided the hall in the Inns of Court, with students occupying the body of the hall and readers or benchers on the other side. Students who officially became lawyers crossed the symbolic physical barrier and were "admitted to the bar". Later, this was popularly assumed to mean the wooden railing marking off the area around the judge's seat in a courtroom, where prisoners stood for arraignment and where a barrister stood to plead. In modern courtrooms, a railing may still be in place to enclose the space which is occupied by legal counsel as well as the criminal defendants and civil litigants who have business pending before the court.

Bar (TV Poland)

Bar is the local season of the reality The Bar in Poland. The show was aired on Polsat (first 5 editions) and TV4 (6th edition). Was, like its precursor, Big Brother, as many supporters as opponents. By the year 2004 held five Polish edition of the program. In the year 2005 completed the next edition - Bar Europa, which proved to be the least popular among all six versions.
