Curt Smith

Curt Smith (born 24 June 1961, Bath, Somerset, England) is an English musician. He is best known for forming the band Tears for Fears, along with childhood friend Roland Orzabal. As a solo artist, he has released four full-length albums.

Smith met Roland Orzabal when both were teenagers. They first formed a band in their teens, for which Smith taught himself to play bass guitar. They next formed the ska influenced band Graduate, who released their only album in 1980 achieving minor success in Europe. Around this time, Smith and Orzabal also became session musicians for the band Neon. Fellow band members included Pete Byrne and Rob Fisher who went on to become the duo Naked Eyes.

Tears for Fears

After Graduate and Neon disbanded, Smith and Orzabal founded Tears for Fears in 1981. Their debut album, 1983's The Hurting, reached no.1 in the UK and produced three international hit singles – "Mad World", "Change", and "Pale Shelter" – each with lead vocals performed by Smith.

Curt Smith (baseball)

Curt Smith (born September 9, 1986 in Willemstad, Curaçao, in the former Netherlands Antilles) is a Dutch minor league baseball player for the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball. He is also a member of the Dutch national team. Smith was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals out of the University of Maine in the 39th round (1,175th overall) of the June 2008 First-Year Player Draft. At Maine, Smith was named America East Player of the Year in 2008.

Smith was named MVP after the 2011 Baseball World Cup.

Curt Smith (born March 20, 1951 in Caledonia, New York) is an American author, media host and columnist. In addition to work as a newspaper reporter, Smith was a political speechwriter until 1992 and a host of radio and television programs until 2002. He has written 11 books, including Voices of the Game, which covers the history of baseball broadcasting. Smith is a newspaper columnist in upstate New York and holds an academic appointment at the University of Rochester.

Biography

Smith is a 1973 graduate of SUNY at Geneseo. He worked as a Gannett Company reporter, a speechwriter to former Texas Governor John Connolly, and an editor at the Saturday Evening Post. In 1989 he joined the George H.W. Bush Administration as a speechwriter. After Bush’s defeat in 1992 Smith lectured at the Smithsonian Institution and then turned to radio and television. From 1994 to 1996 he hosted the Midday Milwaukee talk show on radio station WISN. He also hosted WROC-TV’s Perfectly Clear program from 2000 to 2002 and a 1997-2002 series on the Fox Empire Sports Network.

Curt Smith (basketball)

Curt "Trouble" Smith (born 1971) is an American former basketball player best known as a streetball legend in the Washington, D.C. and Maryland areas. He played college basketball at Compton College and then Drake University. While at Drake, Smith was named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year as a junior in 1992–93.

In high school, Smith was an All-American who was chosen to play in the Capital Classic in 1989, which was the premier All-American showcase game at the time. He matched up opposite Kenny Anderson, who was considered the best high school basketball player ever (pre-LeBron James), yet Smith outplayed him.

Smith then spent his first two college basketball seasons playing at Compton College, now called El Camino College, in Compton, California. After lighting it up at the junior college level—he once scored 48 points against Harbor Community College—he moved on to play NCAA Division I ball at Drake. During his first season playing for the Bulldogs, Smith was named the Missouri Valley Conference's Newcomer of the Year as well as its player of the year, earning the rare double honor. That season he averaged approximately 21 points, 5 assists and 3 steals per game while helping to turn the program around after bad seasons the previous years.
