FOREIGN & COMMONWEALTH OFFICE - LONDON - 2 Courtesy: Jazz Break [Music] Current Foreign Secretary: William HAGUE [He has 3 (three) Special Advisers - all other Ministers have only 2 (two) Special Advisers] Political blogger "Guido FAWKES", a pseudonym for TRANSPARENCY campaigner Paul STAINES, has submitted a Freedom of Information ("FoI") Request demanding details of Mr MYERS's Terms of Employment. It asks: 'Has Mr MYERS been on any international trips with the Foreign Secretary? How much is Mr MYERS being paid? Could you please provide a detailed job description?' Foreign Secretary William Hague is facing fresh questions over his decision to appoint a 3rd (third) Special Adviser in contravention of rules set down by David Cameron. The former Tory leader has been asked to justify his decision to put his one-time constituency aide Chris MYERS on the public payroll. The 25-year-old has been drafted in as a Foreign Office adviser, despite promises by ministers to slash spending. Privately-educated Mr MYERS's appointment were revealed after pictures emerged of him walking very casually with 49-year-old Mr Hague in Westminster last year. Mr Hague was widely mocked for wearing dark glasses and a baseball cap, the item of clothing which damaged his reputation with voters during his leadership of the Tory party. The appointment is controversial, in part, because Mr Cameron has limited most ministers to just 2 (two) Special Advisers to keep costs down. And while Tories say Durham ...

David Lidington, Minister for Europe at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office
The release of this year's EU Commission Progress Report on Turkey in October greatly emphasized that it is in the interest of both the EU and Turkey that EU accession negotiations should regain their momentum, and at the same time welcomed Turkey's work on a new constitution. However, the report also prioritized freedom of expression and rule of law as requirements for accession to the European Union and mentioned its growing concerns on the issue of Turkey's fundamental rights. In an exclusive interview with Today's Zaman, UK Conservative politician and Minister for Europe at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office David Lidington highlighted Turkey's significant place within the EU, stated that enormous progress has been made over the years and pledged to increase pressure for new chapters in the accession process to be opened. He emphasized that while more measures need to be taken by Turkey with respect to minority rights, formal negotiations need to be under way in order to set more detailed benchmarks and targets and that the United Kingdom is willing to work together to establish how these are to be met. Calling on other EU countries to do more for Turkey's accession, the minister for Europe expressed his frustration and argued that the longer other countries around the EU table block progress, the harder the UK will continue to press for these chapters to be opened. www.todayszaman.com

TROIKA/ LIGHT RAIN/ UK PAVILION WORLD EXPO/ SHANGHAI 2010
LIGHT RAIN is a light installation by Troika, that was commissioned by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for the UK Pavilion at the World Expo in Shanghai 2012.
Troika created small lighting devices called 'light rain engines', which were specially designed for this installation. These devices, using powerful leds as well as precise motors and a simple but sophisticated arrangement of lenses, refract their white light sources to project a series of animated raindrops encircled by a halo of vibrant, rainbow coloured light on the floor of a walkway in the pavilion. From gentle drizzle to heavy rain, the light raindrops enliven the space, creating a beautiful and playful environment in which to reconsider the importance of one of the most simple and essential natural phenomena.

The British Army Officer of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment discusses taking part in the Trooping the Colour parade and the diversity of the Household Cavalry.
Born in Ghana, the Major moved to the UK when he was younger. As the first black officer commissioned in the Household Cavalry to command 120 men and 120 horses, the Major believes the diverse make-up of his regiment embodies the wider modern Britain where "officers from so many backgrounds all mix together as one."
