Glanworth (Irish: Gleannúir, meaning "yew valley") is a village on the R512 regional road, 8 km northwest of the town of Fermoy in County Cork, Ireland. It lies some 40 km northeast of the city of Cork, the county's administrative centre, and 210 km southwest of the capital, Dublin. The combined population of Glanworth East and Glanworth West in 2006 was 1,316, an increase of 8.6% since 2002.
Glanworth has a Roman Catholic church, a school, several shops, and ten pubs. The village is commonly referred to as 'The Harbour'. This stems from the ninth century invasion of Vikings, who sailed inland as far as the monastery in Glanworth. The village was sacked and many of the women were taken back to Scandinavia as saltwives. The chilling cry of 'come on the harbour' is still often heard at sporting events.
The 13th-century Glanworth Castle was built beside the River Funcheon by the Condon family, Norman settlers who arrived in the Cork area in the twelfth century. The keep and the castle wall remain. The castle is now used mainly as a public walk or a courting area.

24th. Historical Documentary from my series 'Stories from the River of Time.' This episode features the beautiful old mill which is situated on the banks of the River Funcheon at Glanworth, near Fermoy in north Co. Cork. The location of Glanworth Mill when built in the final decades of the 1700's was a pragmatic decision-the River Funcheon would provide the energy to drive the millstones and sieves while the nearby old bridge would ensure access from the extensive grain-growing areas in the vicinity of Glanworth village.

27th. Historic Documentary from my series, "Stories from the River of Time' This episode features the oldest building at Glanworth apart from Roche's Castle that I featured here recently. Situated on a small hill overlooking the river Funcheon and Glanworth's narrow historic old bridge, very few Abbey's in Ireland command such a picturesque setting. So, join me and let's together explore this fascinating abbey. Jim Owers
26th. Historic Documentary from mt series 'Stories from the River of Time.' This episode features the castle in Glanworth which overlooks the Mill and the river Funcheon. Built in 13th century by the Norman family of de Caunteton (Condon) whom I featured in a recent Kilworth castle documentary here in Facebook and in Youtube. The castle was built to command the bridge over the river Funcheon. By 1300, it had passed through marriage to the Roche's and remained in their hands until 17th century when all was lost to the Cromwellian conquest, never to be regained.
