The Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) is an annual film festival held in Kolkata, India. Founded in 1995, it is the second oldest international film festival in India. The 19th Kolkata International Film Festival will be held 10 to 17 November 2013. The festival is organized by the West Bengal Film Centre under the West Bengal Government. The Government of West Bengal created Nandan the West Bengal Film Centre in 1985. The centre was inaugurated by Satyajit Ray. From the moment of its foundation the Kolkatan film buffs demanded their own film festival. In 1995, Nandan organized its first ever independent film festival. Within a couple of years it was recognized by FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers' Associations -- Paris), the international authority of film festivals. The 19th Annual Kolkata Film Festival was held on 10 to 17 November 2013. The Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) is an annual film festival held in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Spinning the spool to roll 35 mm film
Spinning the spool to roll 35 mm film
Two men spinning the reel to roll the film for safer storage and projection. A reel is an object around which lengths of another material (usually long and flexible) are wound for storage. The standard length of a 35 mm film reel is 1,000 feet (300 m), which runs approximately 11 minutes for sound film (24 frames per second)[2] and slightly longer at silent film speed (which may vary from approximately 16 to 22 frames per second). Most films have visible cues which mark the end of the reel. This allows projectionists running reel-to-reel to change over to the next reel on the other projector. A so-called "two-reeler" would have run about 20--24 minutes since the actual short film shipped to a movie theater for exhibition may have had slightly less (but rarely more) than 1000 ft (about 305 m) on it. Most modern projectionists use the term "reel" when referring to a 2,000-foot (610 m) "two-reeler", as modern films are rarely shipped by single 1,000-foot (300 m) reels. A standard Hollywood movie averages about five 2000-foot reels in length. The "reel" was established as a standard measurement because of considerations in printing motion picture film at a film laboratory, for shipping (especially the film case sizes) and for the size of the physical film magazine attached to the motion picture projector. Had it not been standardized (at 1,000 feet (300 m) of 35 mm film) there would have been many difficulties in the manufacture of the related equipment. A 16 mm "reel" is 400 feet (120 m). It runs, at sound speed, approximately the same amount of time (11--12 minutes) as a 1000-foot 35 mm reel. A "split reel" is a motion picture film reel in two halves that, when assembled, hold a specific length of motion picture film that has been wound on a plastic core. Using a split reel allows film to be shipped or handled in a lighter and smaller form than film would on a "fixed" reel. In silent film terminology, two films on one reel. As digital cinema catches on, the physical reel is being replaced by a virtual format called Digital Cinema Package, which can be distributed using any storage media (such as hard drives) or data transfer medium (such as the Internet or satellite links) and projected using a digital projector instead of a conventional movie projector. source - Wikipedia This footage is part of the professionally-shot broadcast stock footage archive of Wilderness Films India Ltd., the largest collection of HD imagery from South Asia. Participants of 6th Delhi Queer Pride 2013 marching towards Jantar Mantar
The sixth Delhi Queer Pride 2013, conducted on Sunday, 24th November 2013. People joined in to celebrate the diversity within the gender spectrum fighting for the cause of gender equality with slogans of "Hum Anek Hai" and "One India". It was a colourful show of solidarity and support in the Capital on Sunday as over a thousand members and supporters of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community gathered to participate in the sixth Delhi Queer Pride Parade. The participants marched from Barakhamba Road in Connaught Place towards Jantar Mantar. The event, which started at 3 pm, went on for four hours. The Pride Parade is seen as an avenue where people come openly and claim their rights to access public places fearlessly. Every year the Delhi Pride Community, which organises the Parade, comes up with something unique to make the event more fun. This year it organised events such as the Queer bazaar, fund raising parties and placard making sessions. Started in 2008 with just 35 people, the LGBT participation has grown tremendously over the past five years. It is not just attended by the queer community, but also by family members and people who support them. The Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata
The Academy of Fine Arts, in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) is one of the oldest fine arts societies in India.Every year the exhibition is held in the academy showcasing numerous arts. The academy was formally established in 1933 by Lady Ranu Mukherjee. It was initially located in a room loaned by the Indian Museum, and the annual exhibitions used to take place in the adjoining verandah. In the 1950s, thanks to the efforts of Lady Ranu Mookerjee and patronage by B.C. Roy, Chief Minister of West Bengal, as well as Jawaharlal Nehru, the Prime Minister of India, the academy was shifted to a much larger space in the Cathedral Road, beside St. Paul's Cathedral, the present location. Eminent painter Asit Paul is presently the Vice President of Academy of Fine Arts. There are some famous paintings here like Saat bhai champa by Gaganendranath Tagore, Shiva with Ganesh by Jamini Roy. There is a theatre auditorium in Academy of Fine Arts which is one of the most popular spot for performers and viewers of the city. Since 1984 annual theatre festival is organized here. source - Wikipedia This footage is part of the professionally-shot broadcast stock footage archive of Wilderness Films India Ltd., the largest collection of HD imagery from South Asia.
