Brighton Slide Show Brighton Pier, Royal Pavilion. ----------------------------------------------------------------- A slide show of trip by me to Brighton Pier and Royal Pavilion, Brighton, England, United Kingdom. Photography by suraj V. Brighton Pier ------------- The Brighton Marine Palace and Pier is a pleasure pier in Brighton, England. It is generally known as the Palace Pier for short, but has been informally renamed Brighton Pier since 2000 by its owners, the Noble Organisation. Work began on the Palace Pier in 1891 and it opened in May 1899 after costing a record £27000 to build. This was Brighton's third pier. A concert hall opened two years later, and by 1911 this had become a theatre .In 1986 the theatre was removed, on the understanding that it would be replaced. This has not happened. The pier had signs reading "Brighton Pier" attached to it in 2000, although this change is not recognised by the National Piers Society or many of the residents of Brighton and Hove. The local newspaper, The Argus, still generally refers to the structure as the Palace Pier. Royal Pavilion -------------- The Royal Pavilion is a former royal residence located in Brighton, England. It was built in three campaigns, beginning in 1787, as a seaside retreat for George, Prince of Wales, from 1811 Prince Regent. It is often referred to as the Brighton Pavilion. It is built in the Indo-Saracenic style prevalent in India for most of the 19th century, with the most extravagant chinoiserie ...

Laxmi Vilas Palace (Vadodara - Gujarat - India)
(EN) The term Maharaja Palace actually refers to a series of palaces in Vadodara, India, constructed since the Gaekwad family started ruling the Vadodara State. The first one was a building known as the Sarkar Wada. This building, not really a palace, was given up for the Nazarbaug Palace built in old classical style. This once a magnificent building is now in a dilapidated state. After this the Lakshmi Vilas Palace, an extravagant building of the Indo-Saracenic school, was built by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in 1890 at a cost of GBP180,000. Major Charles Mant was the architect. It is reputed to have been the largest private dwelling built in the nineteenth century and four times the size of Buckingham Palace. At the time of construction it boasted the most modern amenities such as elevators and the interior is reminiscent of a large European country house. It remains the residence of the Royal Family, who continue to be held in high esteem by the residents of Baroda. Its ornate Darbar Hall, which is sometimes the venue of music concerts and other cultural events, has a Venetian mosaic floor, Belgium stained glass windows and walls with intricate mosaic decorations. Outside of the Darbar Hall is an Italinate courtyard of water fountains. The palace houses a remarkable collection of old armoury and sculptures in bronze, marble & terracotta by Fellici. The grounds were landscaped by William Goldring, a specialist from Kew Gardens. The palace is open to the public and an ...

Travel United Kingdom - Visiting the Brighton Royal Pavilion
Take a tour of Brighton Royal Pavilion in Brighton, United Kingdom -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. A former residence for the royalty of the United Kingdom, construction of the immense Brighton Royal Pavilion began in 1787 and was finally completed in 1822. The Pavilion was designed in exotic Indo-Saracenic architectural style popular in 19th century India. The beautifully intricate colonnades coupled with the domed spires, and creamy pale color adds to the grandeur of this extravagant structure. Geometric screen and glass patterns allow the natural light to dance and shimmer on the Pavilion's inner walls. Adorning the interior are lavish furnishings of ancient Chinese and Indian origin, most likely acquired by the East India Trading Company. Since its days as a hospital, housing injured Indian soldiers, during World War One the Pavilion has been open to visitors and is one of Brighton's primary attractions.
