A Virtual Reconstruction model of the Umayyad period buildings outside the Temple Mount
The Umayyad period version of the model shows the site as excavators believe it appeared just prior to a major earthquake that hit the city in 749 CE. During the Umayyad period, Jerusalem enjoyed an extensive building campaign by Caliph 'Abd al-Malik ibn al-Marwan and his son Al-Walid. The Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa Mosque were constructed during this period. The focus of the model is on the two large buildings south of the Temple Mount platform and the north/south Cardo. The reconstruction is based on the excavations at the Temple Mount under the direction of Yuval Baruch, Jerusalem District Archaeologist. On view at the Davidson Center.

Damascus_ Capital of the Umayyad Empire.flv
Damascus... A heaven of Hidden Treasures "...no recorded event has occurred in the world but Damascus was in existence to receive the news of it. Go back as far as you will into the vague past, there was always a Damascus. To Damascus years are only moments, decades are only flitting trifles of time. She measures time not by days, months and years, but by the empires she has seen rise and prosper and crumble to ruin. She is a type of immortality. She was Greece rise and flourish two thousand years, and die. In her old age she saw Rome built, she saw it overshadow the world with its power; she saw it perish... She has looked upon the dry bones of a thousand empires and will see the tombs of a thousand more before she dies..." Mark Twain.

Spain during the Arabic umayyad reign (Al-Andalus) el Andalucia
Abd a-Rahman I (Arabic: عبد الرحمن الداخل; known as "the Immigrant", also the "Falcon of Andalus" or "The Falcon of the Quraish"; 731 788) was the founder of the Umayyad Emirate of Córdoba (755), a Muslim dynasty that ruled the greater part of Iberia for nearly three centuries (including the succeeding Caliphate of Córdoba). The Muslims called the regions of Iberia under their dominion al-Andalus. Abd a-Rahman's establishment of a government in al-Andalus represented a branching from the rest of the Islamic Empire, which had been usurped by the Abbasid overthrow of the Umayyads from Damascus in 750. The Golden age of Jewish culture in Spain, also known as the Golden Age of Arab (or Moorish) Rule in Iberia, refers to a period of history during the Muslim rule of the Iberian Peninsula (the former Roman and Visigothic Hispania) in which Jews were generally accepted in society and Jewish religious, cultural, and economic life en.wikipedia.org blossomed. The nature and length of this "Golden Age" has been a subject of debate. Some scholars give the start of the Golden Age as either 711718 (after the Muslim conquest of Hispania) or 912 (the rule of Abd-ar-Rahman III) and the end of the Golden Age variously as 1031 (when the Caliphate of Cordoba ended), 1066 (the date of the Granada massacre), 1090 (when the Almoravides invaded), or the mid-1100s (when the Almohades invaded).

Adhan at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus
From what I have been told, there are only two mosques in the world where the Adhan (call to prayer) is performed in congregation. The Umayyad Mosques in Damascus and Aleppo, Syria. The story goes that in earlier times there was one main guy who gave the adhan and numerous others who stood on the walls of the Mosque to echo it out into the city. This is how they do it now. When one of the guys saw I was recording he motioned for me to come in and get a better shot....right afterwards is a guy that looks exactly like Sheikh Ahmed Yassin.

Umayyad Mosque 12/09/2009 - جامع الأمويين
Syria - Damascus - Georges Kifai - 12/09/2009 The Ummayad Mosque, also known as the Grand Mosque of Damascus (Arabic: جامع بني أمية الكبير, transl. Ğām' Banī 'Umayyah al-Kabīr), is one of the largest and oldest mosques in the world. Located in one of the holiest sites in the old city of Damascus, it is of great architectural importance. The mosque holds a shrine which is said to contain the head of John the Baptist (Yahya), honored as a prophet by Muslims and Christians alike. The head was supposedly found during the excavations for the building of the mosque. There are also many important landmarks within the mosque for the Shīah, among them is the place where the head of Husayn (the grandson of Muhammad) was kept on display by Yazīd I. There is also the tomb of Saladin, which stands in a small garden adjoining the north wall of the mosque. In 2001 Pope John Paul II visited the mosque, primarily to visit the relics of John the Baptist. It was the first time a pope paid a visit to a mosque. History : The spot where the mosque now stands was a temple of Hadad in the Aramaean era. The Aramaean presence was attested by the discovery of a basalt orthostat depicting a sphinx, excavated in the north-east corner of mosque. The site was later a temple of Jupiter in the Roman era, then a Christian church dedicated to John the Baptist in the Byzantine era. Initially, the Muslim conquest of Damascus in 636 did not affect the church, as the building was shared by Muslim and Christian ...

THE CASTLES OF THE UMAYYAD DESERT Jordan's Historic Legacy
The journey to the desert castles of the Umayyad begins south of the Jordanian capital of Amman close to the Queen Alia Airport. The winter residence of Qasr Mushatta is no more. In spite of its poor condition, this desert castle is exceptional among the former residences of the Umayyad monarchy, as according to the wishes of Al-Walid The Second the Qasr Mushatta, was meant to outshine all other palaces in respect of both size and splendor. On the southern Azraq Amman Road is the impressive Qasr al-Kharana, the most well-preserved desert castle in Jordan. Some of its architectural features, such as the Mesopotamian walls and decorative elements of the upper section, indicate Persian influence. Azraq is located a hundred kilometres east of Amman on the edge of a sandy desert. Even today, the Qasr Azraq Castle impresses with its dark basalt stone. It is more like a fortress than a noble residence and is believed to date back to Roman times and Emperor Septimius Severus. Entrance to the Qasr al Hallabat Mosque was highly restricted and only the caliph and members of his court were allowed to enter. Nevertheless, the Umayyad monarchs were not as religious as they made out. In fact the opposite was true, as their desert castles often featured wild festivities! Any journey to the ancient and mysterious Ummayad kingdom with its fairy-tale castles and ancient bathing houses is an unforgettable and atmospheric adventure.

Umayyad Mosque in Damascus Syria
The Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, Syria. The Umayyad Mosque is one of the largest and oldest mosques in the world having both architectural and historic importance. On its grounds is a shrine that is said to house the head of "John the Baptist" (an important figure in Islam) and the final resting place of Saladin. In this video you can hear the service that was being given from loudspeakers that were spread out through its grounds. I thought it created a very cool and surreal atmosphere. Khawarji Fitna During Umayyad & Abbasids Caliphate - It was banned to take name of Imam Ali(as) 1
Lecture: Imam Hassan Basri RA ka Hadhrat Ali RA sey sima This is one of the historic lectures in Ilm ul Hadith (Science of Hadith) which was outstanding for the last 11 centuries, which is why the science of Sufism could not have been proved with the conditions of Science of Hadith. The Muhadithin could not prove any meeting between Imam Hasan Basri and Imam Ali according to the conditions/requisites of Science of Hadith. In this historic speech during the largest Itikaf of the Muslim world after the Harmain, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri after his immense research has provided more than 30 Hadith transmitted through the two Imam. He proves that the meeting between the two greatest Imams of the time did take place hence resolved the outstanding issue. Play this lecture here www.islamtune.com

THE CASTLES OF THE UMAYYAD DESERT Jordan
The Jordan Desert contains several mysterious ruins including the legendary remains of the ancient castles of the Umayyad Monarchy. Qasr Al Mushatta is the largest of the Umayyad castles although it gradually fell into ruins and much of it was used elsewhere as building material. No other desert castle was built with such megalomania and it was designed as the winter palace of Caliph Walid the Second. Paved roads have now replaced the former caravan routes. Close to the southern Azraq Amman Road is the quadrate castle of Qasr El Kharaneh. This fortress like building is one of the most well preserved desert castles of the Umayyad and its massive external walls and corner towers give it an awesome appearance. The small bathing castle of Qusair Amra is one of the most beautiful castles in Jordan. Its bathing house uniquely highlights the abundant luxury enjoyed by the former monarchs of the desert. The castle features a number of magnificent and well known wall paintings that depict various bathing and hunting scenes. Today the happy-go-lucky nature of the Umayyad monarchy seems to be far removed from Islam. Indeed, some of the scenes are of a sensual nature. The castles of the Umayyad desert: history, atmosphere and romance!
