Mayawati Slams UPA On SC/ST Quota In Promotion Bill
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Friday lambasted the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government over the SC/ST Quota in Promotion Bill but also said that her party would continue to support the Central Government. Speaking to IBN7 Managing Editor Ashutosh, Mayawati said that the UPA was not interested in passing the Bill and working for the benefit of the Dalit community. Babasaheb Bimrao Ambedkar had demanded reservation for Dalits due to the low social status of the community, Mayawati said. The BSP leader and Rajya Sabha MP said that even as the situation of the other backward castes had been improving in recent years, SCs and STs had not benefited and so reservation was the only solution. Mayawati accused the Centre of pushing for reservation in promotion because of its anti-Dalit stand. The BSP chief said that her party forced the UPA to get the Bill passed in the Rajya Sabha. But the Centre took advantage of this move and did not get the Bill passed in the Lok Sabha. She pointed out that the incidents of December 19 and 20 in the Lok Sabha showed that the UPA was not in the favour of the Bill.

Mayawati announces BSP's support to UPA on FDI vote in Rajya Sabha
BSP supremo Mayawati on Thursday declared that her party will support the UPA government on FDI vote in the Rajya Sabha. "The government's proposal on FDI has some loopholes but the plus point for the current FDI policy of Central government is that states won't be forced to implement it," said Mayawati. With Mayawati's announcement, the UPA is now assured of 117 votes versus 99 against with the nine MPs of the Samajwadi Party likely to abstain.

Mayawati blames Congress, BJP for defeat, says 70% Muslims voted for Mulayam
Mayawati who formally resigned today, has defended her government, which was decimated in the UP elections. Her Bahujan Samaj Party got 80 seats, as compared to 206 in the last assembly elections of 2007. She refused to acknowledge that her government had failed to provide any development for the state. She said her defeat must be blamed on the communalization of the elections by the Congress and BJP. The former chief minister said 70% of Muslims voted for Mulayam Singh Yadav and his Samajwadi Party as a result.

NRHM scam: Mayawati's secretary summoned by CBI - NewsX
After Mulayam Singh Yadav, there is trouble ahead for Uttar Pradesh's other stalwart, Mayawati. The CBI which is investigating the NRHM case, has summoned Mayawati's private secretary Navneet Sehgal for questioning in the matter. Sehgal was summoned after key witness in the case, Girish Malik deposed in a special CBI court earlier this month that he had paid Sehgal Rs 42 lakh as bribe for former UP Family and Welfare Minister Babu Lal Kushwaha at Mayawati's residence at 13 Mall Avenue in Lucknow. The scam figure covers around 4000 crore rupees that were alleged to have been misappropriated as part of the National Rural Health Mission funds in Uttar Pradesh. For more log on to www.newsx.com

Mayawati welcomes SC/ST promotion quota bill - NewsX
BSP supremo Mayawati has welcomed the SC/ST promotion quota bill. She has even asked the BJP to support it. The Cabinet on Tuesday cleared a Bill which provides for the reservation to the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in government job promotions. The government will introduce the Bill in Parliament on Wednesday or Thursday. Congress's new-found ally, the Samajwadi Party had earlier lashed out at the Centre saying that while reservation of jobs for SCs/STs and OBC candidates was fine, reservations in promotions would not be such a good idea. Although the party leaders indicated that they wanted a similar provision for the OBCs in job promotions, SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav said the party still opposed the Bill. Mayawati slams FDI reforms, diesel hike - NewsX
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Saturday slammed the recent diesel price hike and FDI reforms announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's government, calling them "anti-people". "The recent decision to increase the price of diesel and capping of cooking gas supply will severely affect the country's poor section and the middle class. The cost of living will increase after the diesel price hike," Mayawati said during a press conference. Mayawati further said that whenever the Central government take anti-people decisions, her party has not tolerated it and raised voice against it. She said that a huge rally will be held on October 9 after which a decision will be taken whether or not BSP will continue with its outside support to the government. The reaction came after government's announcement of diesel price hike, capping of supply of subsidised LPG cylinders and 51 per cent FDI in multi-brand retail - which opens up India's estimated USD 450 billion retail market to foreign supermarkets like Wal-Mart, Carrefour and Tesco. Rahul Gandhi in Kanpur: Mayawati looted the funds sent under Bundelkhand package
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that the funds sent under Bundelkhand were looted by Mayawati Government. He was talking at an election rally in Kanpur, UP. “Mayawati, being the Chief Minister, did not find it necessary to visit Bundelkhand. No one was there to help them. I took a delegation to the Prime Minister and without any delay he approved a package of Rs. 8000 crore for the relief of the region. But that amount was looted by the Mayawati Government. The tractors sent for the farmers went to the Minister’s kids. This money was the result of your sweat and blood,” asserted the Congress General Secretary.

Rahul Gandhi in Kanpur: Mayawati, Mulayam do not realize the strength of the people
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi while addressing a big election rally in Kanpur said that Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav do not realize the strength and knowledge of the people. “Your leaders here do not realize the enormous strength in the people. They do not trust you and so do not come to you. Did Mayawati come to you in the past five years? Did Mulayam do so?" asked Rahul Gandhi. “They will not do so. They just think that they can fool you by just showering promises on you during elections,” reminded Rahul Gandhi.

Mayawati likely to prevent discussion on FDI in RS by pushing for quota
A day before the Lok Sabha debates FDI in retail, there seems to be a new twist in the tale. Sources say there is a big possibility that Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati may prevent any discussion on FDI in the Rajya Sabha by insisting on the passage of the promotion quota bill first. While the Lok Sabha will debate FDI in retail on Tuesday and Wednesday, in the Rajya Sabha, where the government lacks numbers, it may meet a Lokpal-like fate in the end.
