"Iconic film director Quentin Tarantino believes that US drug policy, and the subsequent mass incarceration of African Americans, is comparable to pre-Civil War slavery. In an interview about his latest movie—Django Unchained, which documents the story of a freed slave, played by Jamie Foxx—Tarantino points out that the hierarchies of racial injustice have shifted but not wholly improved. "This whole thing of...this 'War on Drugs,' and the mass incarcerations that have happened pretty much for the last 40 years has just decimated the black male population," says the filmmaker. The Philippines refuted on Monday Cambodia's claim that an understanding had been reached. Communist Party leader Xi Jinping has again warned that corruption could bring down the Party, during his address to the newly announced 25-member Politburo over the weekend. Chinese state-run media announces that that head of the powerful Political and Legislative Affairs Committee will now be Meng Jianzhu. This effectively slashes power from the security apparatus, as Meng is not in the Politburo Standing Committee ruling circle like his predecessor Zhou Yongkang. Netizens fear there will be further tightening of the internet, after propaganda chief, Liu Yunshan, was elevated to the Politburo Standing Committee last week. Liu is known for having a tight grip on media freedom. The Dalai Lama has agained called for a democratic future for China. Five homeless boys were discovered dead in a dumpster in southwestern Guizhou province. The case has drawn outrage on Chinese internet. Chinese authorities say they have broken a ring that produced and sold nearly one million counterfeit luxury products, like Louis Vuitton, Coach and Hermes handbags.
