10 Wonderful Facts About Lewis Carroll
Lewis Carroll's real name was Charles L. Dodgson. The pen name came about by taking his own name, Charles Lutwidge, translating it into Latin - Carolus Ludovicus, reversing the names and retranslating them into English - hence, Lewis Carroll. Born in Cheshire, Charles was the third of 11 children. Dodgson suffered from a bad stammer and was deaf in one ear. Dodgson's first piece of work under his pen name was a romantic poem called Solitude, published in 1856 Alternative titles considered for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland included Alice Among the Fairies and Alice's Golden Hour. Dodgson denied that Alice was based on his real life friend, Alice Liddell. An acrostic poem is where the first letter on each line makes up a word or words. Such a poem can be found at the end of Through the Looking Glass which spells out Alice Liddell's name, leading people to believe that he did in fact base the character after his real life friend. Queen Victoria supposedly was a big fan of the book and suggested to Dodgson that he dedicate his next book to her - Carroll denied this to be true. Dodgson took up photography and excelled at the art. He photographed many famous people include Alfred Lord Tennyson and created approximately 3000 images. But after 24 years of taking pictures he abruptly stopped. Chess figured prominently in Dodgson's work. References to the game can be found in Through the Looking Glass. Some of his photographs feature chess being played and it has been documented ...

Lewis Carroll "Jabberwocky" Poem animation
Heres the great Lewis Carroll reading his best loved poem "Jabberwocky" "Jabberwocky" is a poem of nonsense verse written by Lewis Carroll, originally featured as a part of his novel Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There (1872). The book tells of Alice's travels within the back-to-front world through a looking glass. While talking with the white king and queen (chess pieces) she finds a book written in a strange language that she can't read. Understanding that she is travelling in an inverted world, she sees it is mirror-writing. Finding a mirror and holding it up to a poem on one of the pages, she reads out the reflection of "Jabberwocky". She finds it as puzzling as the odd land she has walked into, which we later discover is a dreamscape.[1] It is considered to be one of the greatest nonsense poems written in the English language.[2][3] The playful, whimsical poem became a source of nonsense words and neologisms such as 'galumphing', 'chortle'—and 'Jabberwocky' itself. The poem was written during Lewis Carroll's stay with relatives at Whitburn, near Sunderland, although the first stanza was written in Croft on Tees, close to nearby Darlington, where Carroll lived as a boy.[4] The story may have been inspired by the local Sunderland area legend of the Lambton Worm, as explored in the books A Town Like Alice's by Michael Bute (1997 Heritage Publications, Sunderland) and "Alice in Sunderland" by Brian Talbot. Roger Lancelyn Green suggested in the Times ...

AN ODE TO LEWIS CARROL _ VERLISSE
(acoustic guitar and violin) With lyrics and credits following: I've got a feeling, that moves so slow, gently humming, in the morning glow, lift the curtain, call my name, to be certain, while the seasons change, well, we'll set sail into another land, just open the door and take my hand, Im waiting for you, to step through the mirror, to step through your dreams, to be here with me, take the mystery, for a carriage ride, into the valleys, where my fathers sigh, don't let me linger, in despair, paint a picture, of the loving pair, then we'll touch and go for a dream, inside the warm waves of a sweet memory, when you step through the mirror, when you step through your dreams, when you're here with me, think it over, I want you to know, when you discover, what you let show, it's our secret, I can say, I believe it, day by day, cause every little thing turnin'you around, is more of a secret than what I've found, since lately, you stepped through the mirror, since lately, you're here with me, since lately, you step through your dreams, since lately, you're here with me, CREDITS: - Written by Nonone Verlisse [Guitar, voice] - thank you Theodora [violin and laughter] [ recorded on a Yamaha 4-track porta-studio cassette ] *COPYRIGHT BY NONONE VERLISSE The photos included come from a book entitled ''Reflections in a Looking Glass'' published as a centennial celebration of Lewis Carroll's death. hair-whip heartbreak
Naomi is 16, and works with us at photography factory when she is off school pretty much as an equal member. Lets be honest age is irrelevant in a great picture, plus she has a sense of the social media space to rival the best new media agency analysts. All the newest trends are always playing out as only she predicts. Her detailed clear and analysis of youth culture on the internet is worth a million dollars to us and she is a key member of our team. More importantly her simple black and white photographic portraits are utterly brilliant, an evocation of sub suburban teenage life as seen though the eyes of a 15 (now 16) year old girl. But on the day of this slow motion test Naomi was not her normal beautiful smiling dry sarcastic self (think Juno with a camera). Recently she had a relationship with a Hollister lookalike boy end in an unfair way (what was ever fair about being 16?) and have to get it all dragged around the internet as the aftermath played out on FaceBook in a very modern and very public way. So in other words she was putting on a brave face. We all involved setting up the high speed camera and needed someone to stand in as a lighting dummy, When shooter one had the idea to getting someone to shake their hair around... and see how it might look at 2000 fps. Naomi stepped up to the plate and quite shocked us by the force and passion she used to whip. The beguiling result is here... if you look at here closely you can see something else:
Something about that action and the air swishing though her hair just seemed to change her mood, as if she had just tossed away the weight of an the old nightmare, something thick and heavy that had been clinging to her, but suddenly it was gone. As she was hair whipping for the camera, shooter one quietly said to himself:
"Go girl, shake that boy right out of your hair..."

"...an unconventional foray into hauntingly enchanted territories. The carnivalesque incantation is accompanied by a clip donning a Victorian Period-aesthetic, and it's made complete with dandyish black and white characters that look cut out from a Lewis Carroll cautionary tale. Like a Carroll anecdote, too, the video's line between fantasy and nightmare is effectively nonexistent."

"Director Jeremy Mayhew's cut-and-paste aesthetic and half-human/half-animal creatures give the video the feel of a black and white "Monty Python's Flying Circus", complete with multiple appearances from the "dying little bird" in the lyrics and a turtle/bird/knight playing a guitar solo on a bow and arrow."

IMDB PAGE

This Scene expresses- FEAR- noun: an emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger (usually accompanied by a desire to flee or fight). noun: a feeling of anxiety and agitation caused by the presence or nearness of danger, evil, pain, etc.; timidity; dread; terror; fright; apprehension. Terrify not your soul with vain imaginary fears. By realizing that you are the one feeding the fire, you can start to take control of your fears. Panic is a vicious cycle that can be broken. When you start to have irrational fears you need to take action quick. Eleanor Roosevelt once said: "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing, which you think you cannot do." We must stop running away from things that frighten us, face our fears head on, and do the thing we fear the most. Most of the time we'll find out that the "thing" was not that scary after all. Our imaginations had behaved like a super fertilizer and grown a grotesque monstrosity in our minds. Remember, our imaginations are incredibly powerful. They can work against us, creating horrible images that leave us paralyzed with fear and they can also work for us, building a world where everything we do is an adventure, a miracle. And the most amazing thing is that we hold the power to control our minds - we allow fear to dominate our lives or we choose to dominate fear. Those are our only two choices.

Lewis Carroll - Jabberwocky - Christopher Lee
Sir Christopher Lee reads Lewis Carroll's Jabberwocky - Filmed at The British Library 2010 Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll (1832-1898) 'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe; All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe. "Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!" He took his vorpal sword in hand; Long time the manxome foe he sought — So rested he by the Tumtum tree, And stood awhile in thought. And, as in uffish thought he stood, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came! One, two! One, two! And through and through The vorpal blade went snicker-snack! He left it dead, and with its head He went galumphing back. "And hast thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!" He chortled in his joy. 'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe; All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe.
