The Falkland Islands
Recorded February 18, 2009. The Falkland Islands are an archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean, located 300 miles from the coast of Argentina. They consist of two main islands, East Falkland and West Falkland, together with 776 smaller islands. Stanley, on East Falkland, is the capital. The islands are a self-governing Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom. Stanley (formerly known as "Port Stanley") is the capital and only true city in the Falkland Islands. It is located on the isle of East Falkland, on a north-facing slope, south of Stanley Harbour, in one of the wettest parts of the islands. As of the 2006 census, the city had a population of 2115. The video begins aboard the Star Princess as we sail into Stanley Harbor in the Falkland Islands. Next there is a tour of the town of Stanley complete with comments from our colorful local guide. Next is a visit to the penguin colony at Gypsy Cove. The video then concludes with our sail away from the Falkland Islands aboard the Star Princess. You can see more of Gypsy Cove in my video @ www.youtube.com From: timvp.com

Galloway gives his opinion on Falkland Islands
4TheRecord.org Goerge Galloway tells us what he thinks about the Falkland Island. ----- Falklands' Island's Explained ----- The Falkland Islands (pronounced French: îles Malouines, Spanish: Islas Malvinas) are an archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean, located about 300 miles (260 nmi; 480 km) from the coast of mainland South America, 700 miles (610 nmi; 1100 km) from mainland Antarctica, and 3800 miles (3300 nmi; 6100 km) from Africa. The two main islands are East Falkland and West Falkland, and there are 776 smaller islands. The islands are a self-governing Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom. Stanley, on East Falkland, is the capital. Ever since the re-establishment of British rule in 1833 Argentina has claimed sovereignty. In pursuit of this claim, which is rejected by the islanders, Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands in 1982. This precipitated the two-month-long undeclared Falklands War between Argentina and the United Kingdom and resulted in the defeat and withdrawal of the Argentine forces. Since the war, there has been strong economic growth in both fisheries and tourism, as well as increased speculation on the amount of oil in the area. (Source Wikipedia)

Falkland Islands
The Falkland Islands (Spanish: Islas Malvinas) are an archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean, located about 250 nautical miles from the coast of mainland South America. The archipelago consists of East Falkland, West Falkland and 776 lesser islands. The capital, Stanley, is on East Falkland. The islands are an internally self-governing British Overseas Territory, with the United Kingdom responsible for defence and foreign affairs. Ever since the re-establishment of British rule in 1833, Argentina has claimed sovereignty. In pursuit of this claim, which is rejected by the islanders, Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands in 1982. This precipitated the two-month-long undeclared Falklands War between Argentina and the United Kingdom and resulted in the defeat and withdrawal of the Argentine forces. It is currently on the United Nations list of Non-Self-Governing Territories.

South America 3
(formerly known as Port Stanley) is the capital and only town in the Falkland Islands. It is located on the isle of East Falkland, on a north-facing slope, south of Stanley Harbour, in one of the wettest parts of the islands. Its population is around 1500 people. It is the world's southernmost administrative centre; however, as the Falklands are not a sovereign state, it is not usually categorised as the world's southernmost capital city— that status is generally given to Wellington, New Zealand. Where the Atlantic and Pacific converge -- a stormy, dark place at the foot of South America where early explorers dared not to stray...we were there!

Falkland Islands
Unusual farm land perhaps in a place where nearly nobody lives. "Falkland Islands have a population of just over 3000 people. Stanley, the capital and only city, is on East Falkland. The islands are a self-governing British Overseas Territory, with the United Kingdom responsible for its defense and foreign affairs." -Wiki Unlike Peru and the Nazca Lines, Falkland Islands gets quite a bit of rainfall, averaging 26 or so inches per year.

Falklands Off-road
Driving off-road over the stark expanses of East Falkland, west of Stanley, in October 2012. The area comprises Two Sisters, Mount Longdon, Mount Tumbledown and Wireless Ridge, all sites of fierce battles in June 1982. The terrain is soft peat with accumulations of large quartzite boulders, plus occasional shell holes, natural ponds and streams. At one point we cross Moody Brook. The vehicle is a Toyota Prado D-4D fitted with large off-road tyres. The drive-train is a 3 litre, 4-cylinder 16-valve dohc common-rail diesel, with a variable vane geometry turbo, and aftercooler, mated to a 5-speed auto transmission and a Torsen Traction limited-slip centre differential. The driver is Tony Smith.
