Sweet About Me

"Sweet About Me" is the second single by Australian singer-songwriter Gabriella Cilmi from her debut album, Lessons to Be Learned (2008). The song was used in commercials for Sure and Dove Bodywash in Europe, as well as a commercial for Rexona Roll On in Brazil. It additionally was used in a Hair Cuttery commercial in the U.S. for a short period of time. The song appears on the international soundtrack to the Brazilian telenovela A Favorita and on the soundtrack to the Portuguese telenovela Feitiço de Amor. It was also featured in the "Chapter Ten: Let It Be" episode of the NBC series Lipstick Jungle and in an episode of the VH1 reality television series Rock of Love: Charm School.

There are two versions of the song: the album version and the radio edit. The first verse is cut in half in the radio edit and the song opens up with the lyrics: "Oh, watching me hanging by a string this time" followed by "Oh, easily climax of a perfect lie". In the album version, there is a repetition of the first line followed by the line: "Don't, easily a smile worth a hundred lies"; the radio edit omits these two lines before going into the pre-chorus. A Twenty Ten mix of "Sweet About Me" was included on Cilmi's second album, Ten, released in March 2010.

Gabriella Lucia Cilmi (/ˈtʃɪlmi/ CHIL-mee; born 10 October 1991) is an Australian singer-songwriter. In 2008, Cilmi was awarded six ARIA Music Awards, including Single of the Year and Best Female Artist. Her debut album, Lessons to Be Learned, was released in March 2008, becoming a moderate international success. Her second studio album, Ten, was released in March 2010. Her third studio album, The Sting, was released in November 2013.

Early life

Gabriella Cilmi was born in the Melbourne suburb of Dandenong, of mostly Italian with some Arbëreshë heritage. She moved to London with her family when she was fifteen, where she currently lives with her parents Paula and Joe (whose origins are in Calabria and Sicily, Italy) and her brother Joseph. At an early age, Cilmi developed an interest in a wide range of pop music acts, including Nina Simone, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, The Sweet, T. Rex and Cat Stevens. She has also cited Suzi Quatro as a particular influence. Despite her natural aptitude and vocal talent, Cilmi was told that she lacked the discipline necessary to pursue a singing career. Idolising Janis Joplin, during this time she sang with a band (Foucault) covering songs by Led Zeppelin, Jet, Silverchair and others. Cilmi recorded original songs with writer/producers Barbara and Adrian Hannan of The SongStore.

The Voice UK (series 3)

The Voice UK is a British television music competition to find new singing talent. The third series began airing on 11 January 2014 on BBC One, as opposed to the usual start in March.will.i.am and Tom Jones returned as coaches, while Kylie Minogue and Ricky Wilson joined the show as replacements for former coaches, Jessie J and Danny O'Donoghue. Emma Willis and Marvin Humes co-presented the show for the first time, replacing Holly Willoughby and Reggie Yates.

On 9 February 2014, it was announced that a new spin off show called The Voice: Louder on Two would air every weekday during the live shows on BBC Two hosted by Zoë Ball.

Jermain Jackman of Team Will was crowned as the winner of the series on 5 April 2014.

This series was the only series to feature Minogue as a coach.

Sweetness

Sweetness is one of the five basic tastes and is universally regarded as a pleasurable experience, except perhaps in excess. Foods rich in simple carbohydrates such as sugar are those most commonly associated with sweetness, although there are other natural and artificial compounds that are sweet at much lower concentrations, allowing their use as non-caloric sugar substitutes. Examples of foods that may be used as non-sugar sweet substitutes include saccharin, aspartame, acesulfame potassium, sucralose, xylitol, erythritol, and stevia. Other compounds, such as miraculin, may alter perception of sweetness itself.

The chemosensory basis for detecting sweetness, which varies between both individuals and species, has only begun to be understood since the late 20th century. One theoretical model of sweetness is the multipoint attachment theory, which involves multiple binding sites between a sweetness receptor and a sweet substance.
