8. Susan Blackmore - Brain, Mind, and Consciousness - Skeptics Society 2005
This is from the 2005 Skeptics Conference where leading scientists discuss issues that strike at the very heart of the matter, our brains. Topics range from morality to evolution to consciousness to life after death. It's an absolutely amazing collection of lectures. As with all of my videos thus far, I do not actually hold the copyright for this material. I am only uploading it here to give it the audience it deserves. If I should be asked to remove it, I will. However, you should do yourself a favor, and do the entire skeptics community a favor and purchase this from the source: shop.skeptic.com Or at the very least, donate: www.skeptic.com I hope you enjoy.

Susan Blackmore Debates Alex Tsakiris on NDE's and Afterlife
It's been many years since Dr. Susan Blackmore wrote her book, "Dying to Live" which argued that NDE's were not evidence of an afterlife. Since then, she's dropped out of NDE research, while NDE skeptics have continually used her research to argue their position. Now, Dr. Susan Blackmore returns for an interview on Skeptiko, where host Alex Tsakiris challenges her with the latest NDE research and findings. Susan Blackmore - The meme machine (1999)
What is a meme? First coined by Richard Dawkins in The Selfish Gene, a meme is any idea, behavior, or skill that can be transferred from one person to another by imitation: stories, fashions, inventions, recipes, songs, ways of plowing a field or throwing a baseball or making a sculpture. The meme is also one of the most important--and controversial--concepts to emerge since The Origin of the Species appeared nearly 150 years ago. In The Meme Machine Susan Blackmore boldly asserts: "Just as the design of our bodies can be understood only in terms of natural selection, so the design of our minds can be understood only in terms of memetic selection." Indeed, Blackmore shows that once our distant ancestors acquired the crucial ability to imitate, a second kind of natural selection began, a survival of the fittest amongst competing ideas and behaviors. Ideas and behaviors that proved most adaptive--making tools, for example, or using language--survived and flourished, replicating themselves in as many minds as possible. These memes then passed themselves on from generation to generation by helping to ensure that the genes of those who acquired them also survived and reproduced. Applying this theory to many aspects of human life, Blackmore offers brilliant explanations for why we live in cities, why we talk so much, why we can't stop thinking, why we behave altruistically, how we choose our mates, and much more. With controversial implications for our religious beliefs, our ...

Youtube Poop: Susan Blackmore Summons German Psychos
My first ever youtube poop, and the first one to my knowledge that prominently features Susan Blackmore (surprise surprise). I hope it doesn't suck too hard. Blackmore is famous for her book "The Meme Machine" which expanded Richard Dawkins original concept of memes, and youtube poops often involve the deliberate design and spreading of memes. So by making a youtube poop about Susan Blackmore, the whole thing has gone full circle.
