Lewis Mumford on the city
Before the end of 1961 the New York publishing company Harcourt, Brace and Co. had the first edition of Lewis Mumford's highly successful book The City In History ready for publication. Two years later, in 1963, the National Film Board of Canada funded the production of six documentaries, each lasting 27 minutes, for a series entitled Mumford On The City. The closing titles confirm that the material for the films, based on The City In History, was prepared by Mumford himself.

The Betrayal by Technology: A Portrait of Jacques Ellul -Full - French w/ Eng Subs
Jacques Ellul was a French theologian/sociologist & anarchist. He first became well-known to American readers when his book The Technological Society was published in English in 1964. This book leveled a broad critique of technique, a term that means more than gadgets and machines -- as the English word technology means. For Ellul, technique represented an entire way of life characterized by life fragmented so that efficiency ultimately rules over all ethical decisions. Ellul warned that technique was having drastic effects on all aspects of modern life. His books, Anarchy and Christianity, The Politics of God and the Politics of Man are two examples of how his political and religious outlooks mutually reinforced one another. Many Green Anarchists have cited Ellul's work on technique as influential on their thought. J. Ellul, The Technological Society, Intro: "The term technique, as I use it, does not mean machines, technology, or this or that procedure for attaining an end. In our technological society, technique is the totality of methods ralionally arrived at and having absolute efficiency (for a given stage of development) in every field of human activity. Its characteristics are new; the technique of the present has no common measure with that of the past." (p. xxv) "Capitalism did not create our world; the machine did. Painstaking studies designed to prove the contrary have buried the obvious beneath tons of print. And, if we do not wish to play the demagogue, we ...

The Myth of the Machine
For more information on the threat of internet: www.youtube.com The displacement of the sun in symbolism and myth, wherever and whenever it occurred in history, meant the destruction of the metaphor of inner light (and the Third Eye) as ontological identity. It usually gave way to hyper masculine energy in patriarchal extensions of kingship/empire power which concretized in the final phases as the Megalopolis and/or Universal State. This is as true now in the corporate towers that loom over us, and the sun symbols that threaten to swallow us -- as it was ancient Egypt, Babylon, Sumer and Mesopotamia. Reading is from "Myth of the Machine Vol. II - The Pentagon of Power" By Lewis Mumford. See also William Irwin Thompson "Coming into Being" for a more exhaustive study in the formation of patriarchy in mythology and texts in the evolution of consciousness.

The City 1939
The City (1939) is a pioneering short documentary film which attempts to contrast the evils of the industrialized city with the idyllic conditions one finds in small-town America. The film concentrates primarily on family life, and more specifically on the raising of children. It opens with a look back at pre-industrial America, moving quickly into the modern city. The chaotic industrial and commercial cities shown in the film subsequently give way to the idyillic "new city" of Greenbelt, Maryland. Constructed as a New Deal project, Greenbelt highlights the importance of recreation in the proper upbringing of children, as well as in the making of a stable family life. In 1998, The City was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

The Armthorpe School - Class of 2011 (Leavers Video)
Here's the official leavers video for The Armthorpe School, class of 2011.
I spent a very long time editing all 642 pictures/videos, of which all of the content I was given (minus a few exceptions) is included within the final video. I'd like to thank the few people who gave me footage, I literally wouldn't of been able to do it without you.
Now lets clear a few things up... The purpose of this video isn't to embarrass people, essentially it's to sum up our five years together. Now at the time of writing this (25/06/11 01:42am), yes I secretly pre-uploaded it (I'm a sneaky bugger), I don't know how you all 'took' the video. Hopefully it made you laugh and cry (in a good way), and if you're not the emotional type, I hope it at least brought back some good memories.
Sorry but obviously there's a lot more photos of some people, and not many of others. Please don't be disheartened if there are not a lot of pictures of you, it's just you were unlucky (or lucky - depends how you see it) as you wasn't included that much within the footage I was given. Hopefully, to my knowledge, most people are included at least once; if you're not I apologise, I did try to include everyone.
Well at school, to me it sounded like, people seemed to believe that if they or their friends did not give me any photos of themselves they would not be included in the video. Well I'm afraid that isn't the case, there's no avoiding it.
Anyway hopefully you won't hate me too much for creating this video.
I'd just like to say how I'll honestly miss you all. After knowing you for five years, some of you longer, it's so hard to say goodbye. I'll never forget the incredible friends and many happy memories I've gained. I can still remember sitting in South Hall on our first day, we were absolutely shitting ourselves at this strange new enormous place. But, we've grown up now and, for many of us, it's just a memory. I know some of you shall rejoice at the fact that you've now left forever. Just please, don't forget all those happy memories and friends you've gained, don't let them slip away. I know I won't. I wish you all the best for the future and good look with your exam results. Thank you for five unforgeable years.
