DiResta, Master Builder: Birch Slice Table
In each bi-monthly episode of DiResta (every other Wednesday at 2pm PT), artist and master builder Jimmy DiResta ("Dirty Money," "Hammered," "Against the Grain," "Trash for Cash") lets us into his workshop, to look over his shoulder while he builds whatever strikes his fancy. On this episode of DiResta, Jimmy turns some birch branch slices into a table. Materials and supply lists and Jimmy's notes on the build here: blog.makezine.com

Weekend Projects - Covert Listening Book
Complete instructions for this episode of Weekend Projects can be found at makeprojects.com Connect an amplified listener with an in-car FM transmitter, and you've got a wireless bug. Place the circuit in a hollowed-out book with the microphone concealed by the dust cover, and you've got a super-sneaky covert listening device! Tune in via a FM radio receiver set to the correct frequency, and you'll be able to hear through walls.

Weekend Projects - Optical Tremolo Box
Complete instructions for this episode of Weekend Projects can be found at makeprojects.com Inspired by Charles Platt's "Stomp Box Basics" article (MAKE Volume 15, page 82), follow along as we build this Optical Tremolo Box, which reads a patterned disk with a light sensor to create a warbling audio effect (tremolo). For this project, MAKE Technical Editor Sean Ragan used a cadmium sulfide photoresistor to provide us with our light sensor - a component we have used in previous Weekend Projects. Not only does it look cool and sound great, but once you've made the project, you can customize it by making your own effects disks!

Weekend Projects - Bottle Radio
Complete instructions for this episode of Weekend Projects can be found at makeprojects.com Crystal radio technology has been around for many years. This "bottle radio" take on a crystal radio requires no power source, operates on the power from radio waves, and receives signal from a long wire antenna. As radio stations slowly move away from the AM band, the "window of opportunity" to experience this remarkable technology is dwindling. The "crystal" in question is contained inside a germanium diode, and is used to rectify the radio signal so that our ears can hear it.

Garage Door Murphy Bed- Tiny Yellow House
Deek takes us into a 68 square foot guest house, and shows us a murphy bed made with parts taken from a garage door. Oh, and of course, plenty of heavy metal riffs.

How to Make a Foxhole Radio
During World War II, GIs in the field built really amazing simple radios to listen too. These were made with materials that they could get their hands on and were small enough to carry around in a big pocket. You can modify this design if you want to set it up so that it's tuneable too! To see all the plans, go to makezine dot com slash podcast!
