Emil von Reznicek - Symphony No. 1 "Tragic" (1902)
Painting Info - Abandoned Goth Cathedral by INetGraFX. I. Massig - Mit Majestat - 00:00 II. Leicht Und So Schnell Als Moglich - 22:39 III. Zeimlich Langsam - 30:26 IV. Zeimlich Gehalten - 44:06 Reznicek studied law and music simultaneously in Graz. He did not finish his law degree, but continued to study music, his teacher being Wilhelm Mayer (also known as W. A. Rémy). Subsequently, he conducted at the theater in Graz, in Berlin and a few other places. From 1886 to 1894 he was Kapellmeister of the 88th Infantry of Prague, and it was here that he saw his greatest triumph with the premiere of Donna Diana (16 December 1894). In the spring of 1902 he settled in Berlin, touring to Russia and England from time to time. When the Nazi Party came to power in 1933, Reznicek tried not to become involved, but stayed in Berlin. Reznicek was a personal friend of Richard Strauss. However, the relation between the two seems to have been an ambivalent one. Reznicek's symphonic poem Schlemihl (1912) can be seen as a direct parody of Strauss' A Hero's Life. The use of (often sarcastic) humor is a feature of much of Reznicek's music, from the jibbering Blaubart in the opera Ritter Blaubart through the sardonic Dance around the Golden Calf from Der Sieger (1913) to the expressionist Tarantella last movement of his Dance Symphony (No. 5, 1925). This Eulenspiegelei (a reference to the literary prankster Till Eulenspiegel) frequently got him into trouble in a world that was unaccustomed to the use of humour in music and art. Ferdinand von Reznicek was his half-brother.- published: 11 Sep 2013

Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau: Tartuffe (1925)
Breve Storia del Cinema - L'espressionismo: http://www.brevestoriadelcinema.org/10-1.html Tartuffe (Herr Tartüff) was produced by Erich Pommer for UFA and released in 1926. It was directed by F. W. Murnau, photographed by Karl Freund and written by Carl Mayer from Molière's original play. The film starred Emil Jannings as Tartuffe, Lil Dagover as Elmire and Werner Krauss as Orgon. Although retaining the basic plot, Murnau and Mayer pared down Molière's play, eliminating most of the secondary characters and concentrating on the triangle of Orgon, Elmire and Tartuffe. They also introduced a framing device, whereby the story of Tartuffe becomes a film-within-a-film, shown by a young actor as a device to warn his grandfather about his unctuous but evil housekeepe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tartuffe_%28film%29- published: 06 Nov 2013

Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau: Sunrise - A Song Of Two Humans (1927)
"The most beautiful movie in the world" François Truffaut Breve Storia del Cinema - Gli anni '20 ad Hollywood: http://www.brevestoriadelcinema.org/13-1.html Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans, also known as Sunrise, is a 1927 American silent film directed by German film director F. W. Murnau. The story was adapted by Carl Mayer from the short story "Die Reise nach Tilsit" ("A Trip to Tilsit") by Hermann Sudermann. Sunrise won an Academy Award for Unique and Artistic Production at the first Academy Awards ceremony in 1929 and sixty years later was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry of the United States Library of Congress for films that are "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."The 10th anniversary update of the American Film Institute's best 100 films in 2007 placed it #82, while the decennial Sight and Sound poll of 2012 for the British Film Institute named it the fifth-best film in the history of motion pictures by critics, and 22nd by directors. Murnau chose the new Fox Movietone sound-on-film system, so it is one of the first with a soundtrack of music and sound effects. Although the original negative was destroyed in a nitrate fire in 1937, a new negative was created from a surviving print. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunrise:_A_Song_of_Two_Humans- published: 07 Nov 2013
