One of China's biggest construction companies, Pacific Construction Group, is carrying out the $3.52 billion project that will reshape 500 square miles of mountainous territory to make room for a new urban district northeast of the capital of the Gansu Province. Construction of high-rise residential buildings in the new zone is also expected to increase the area's population by several hundred thousand, adding to Lanzhou's current population of 3.6 million.

Silk Road Tour 5 - Lanzhou - Abigail Washburn & The Village
Lanzhou is known across China for it's hand-pulled beef noodles or niu rou la main 牛肉拉面. And we were treated to several feasts of beef noodles in Lanzhou. We also had a great session with some music students at one of the local universities in Lanzhou. Performing for and with students was one of the funnest parts of the tour. Students in these cities brought unbelievable amounts of enthusiasm to the shows. Surprisingly, when we arrived, after performing on some classical Chinese instruments, the choir came out and performed "Amazing Grace". Lanzhou Beef Fried Hand Pulled Noodles / Niu Rou Chao La Mian Recipie
If you have seen this dish cooked differently, or have video/instructions you can also post, please do. Filmed in the Jingan area of Shanghai 2008. The order of the ingredients as I remember: Oil Beef Handful of cabbage, onion, carrot, peppers Tomato paste Water MSG + Chuicken Granules + Salt + Pepper Soy Sauce Already boiled hand pulled noodles Serve with a teaspoon of "la jiao" - made by heating oil to be moderatley warm, then adding chilli flakes and sesame oil until you have a very thick paste. Careful not to burn it!
