Care That Counts: Applying Quality Standards to OVC Services in Kenya
This film shows how quality improvement (QI) methodology can be used to improve services for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC).
This film tells the story of how implementing standards of care and improvement efforts made a difference in service delivery to orphans and vulnerable children by two organizations in Kenya: FHI-360's Speak for the Child Project, through Okoka community-based organization (CBO) in Nyanza Province, and Maua Methodist Hospital Zoe Project in Eastern Province. These two organizations, along with five others, were selected to pilot OVC quality service standards in Kenya in order to improve services offered to orphans and vulnerable children. This QI initiative was implemented by the USAID Health Care Improvement Project (HCI) in partnership with the Department of Children’s Services of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development and the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
The work of HCI is supported by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). HCI is managed by University Research Co., LLC (URC) under the terms of Contract Number GHN-I-03-07-00003-00. URC’s subcontractors on HCI include EnCompass LLC, Family Health International (FHI), Health Research, Inc., Initiatives, Inc., Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), and Johns Hopkins University Center for Communication Programs (CCP). Chaos breaks out in Nyanza-Rift Valley border
Three people have been left wounded as tensions rise between two neighbouring communities along the Aldai Muhoroni border. The opposing sides stubbornly refused to listen four political leaders among them two cabinet ministers and two members of parliament, demanding that each side return cattle stolen in the last two days. There are fears the clashes could escalate even as the Nyanza provincial commissioner assured KTN that the wrangles were being addressed. Reports of the death of one person are yet to be confirmed, but houses and sugarcane plantations have been razed to the ground. Here's KTN's Kathryn Omwandho with the details.
