Bernard Williams on Descartes: Section 1
I think, therefore I am. Rationalist philosopher and mathematician René Decartes, considered the father of modern philosophy, held this as self-evidently true. In this program, Bernard Williams of Kings College examines Decartes' theory of knowledge and his use of skeptical inquiry to affirm reality, including the existence of God. Descartes' theory of physical and mental substances, and Cartesian dualism—which allows the concept of science to coexist with the notion of God—are examined.

A brief introduction to René Descartes
The rest of this interview can be found here: www.youtube.com More from Christian philosopher John Cottingham: www.youtube.com Cottingham is something of a specialist on Descartes and this introduction is the best I have ever come by on YT - therefore my sharing it. He has an extremely good biography on Descartes which I highly recommend. For those interested as to why a professional philosopher would be a Christian a good place to start would be his 2009 book 'Why Believe?'. www.amazon.co.uk Rene Descartes in IEP: www.iep.utm.edu

Discourse on the Method by Rene Descartes - Track 1
Playlist for book: www.youtube.com From Wikipedia: The Discourse on the Method is a philosophical and autobiographical treatise published by René Descartes in 1637. Its full name is Discourse on the Method of Rightly Conducting One's Reason and of Seeking Truth in the Sciences (French title: Discours de la méthode pour bien conduire sa raison, et chercher la vérité dans les sciences). The Discourse on Method is best known as the source of the famous quotation "Je pense, donc je suis" ("I think, therefore I am"), which occurs in Part IV of the work. (The similar statement in Latin, Cogito ergo sum, is found in §7 of Principles of Philosophy.) The Discourse on the Method is one of the most influential works in the history of modern philosphy, and important to the evolution of natural sciences. In this work, Descartes tackles the problem of skepticism, which had previously been studied by Sextus Empiricus, Al-Ghazali and Michel de Montaigne. Descartes modified it to account for a truth he found to be incontrovertible. Descartes started his line of reasoning by doubting everything, so as to assess the world from a fresh perspective, clear of any preconceived notions. -------- This book was read by me. As such, any complaints or criticism or more than welcome here.
