Leave Her to Heaven (1945)
Leave Her to Heaven is a 1945 American 20th Century Fox Technicolor film noir motion picture starring Gene Tierney, Cornel Wilde, Jeanne Crain, with Vincent Price, Darryl Hickman, and Chill Wills. The story revolves around a femme fatale who entraps a husband and commits several crimes motivated by her insane jealousy. The story was adapted for the screen by Jo Swerling, having been based on the best selling novel of the same name authored by Ben Ames Williams. The film was directed by John M. Stahl. Tierney received an Oscar nomination as Best Actress in a Leading Role for this film. The film grossed over $5000000 and was Fox's highest-grossing picture of the 1940s. The title is a quote from William Shakespeare's Hamlet. In Act I, Scene V, the Ghost urges Hamlet not to seek vengeance against Queen Gertrude, but rather to "leave her to heaven, and to those thorns that in her bosom lodge to prick and sting her." more at: en.wikipedia.org www.imdb.com tcmdb.com www.youtube.com Streaming Audio: ia700303.us.archive.org

Gene Tierney
Gene Tierney (1920-1991) was one of the most beautiful actresses of all time. As with many Hollywood figures, her life was glamorous on the outside: married to fashion legend Oleg Cassini and the darling of film noir. However, her real life was marred by tragedy triggered by the birth of her daughter Daria after contracting rubella. She became bipolar, struggled on the sets, and underwent hospitalization including shock treatment. Her beauty shines best in Sundown, Son of Fury, and Shanghai Gesture. Also included in this video are her famous roles in Laura and Leave Her to Heaven where she brilliantly but ironically played an unstable character. Gene's movies were often memorable not just for her appearances and beauty but for the consistently high quality and her underrated acting. Also movies included are Thunderbirds, The Egyptian, The Ghost and Mrs Muir, Dragonwyck, Heaven Can Wait, The Black Widow, and The Razor's Edge. Music opens with Alan Menken's Bedtime (from The Little Mermaid) and then Gimme All Your Lovin' by ZZ Top.

Talk about entrances! Merely Enchanting! - Gene Tierney
Though she'd already done some Broadway bits, and well received, here she makes no less than 2 stupefying visual "arrivals" on the set of the same film! The original airplane scene is just icing on the cake! Watching the "jaw-dropping" threesome, Bruce Cabot, George Sanders and Reginald Gardner is/was worth the price of admission! Ms. Tierney was a mere 20 years old at the time!DISCLAIMER: All rights reserved to the production companies and music labels that distributed and produced the music and performance respectively. I thought, well she's not one of the huge divas, and her photos werent show-stopping. But when I watched her films I was blown away by this true beauty. Bright eyes, beautiful porcelain skin, and gorgeous brown hair- Gene could be called the perfect woman. Do not let that beauty misguide you though. Behidn that incredible face, was a fantastic actress, most famed for her roles in Laura and Lave Her To Heaven, conquering the femme fatale role masterfully. This is my tribute to the beautiful Gene, with music first from The Little Mermaid and the second is A Girl Like You performed by Edwyn Collins, the song speaks for itself. This video is for fan purposes only. No copyright infringement intended. THUNDER BIRD Buzz and circle, dash and dart, Dive in passion, climb in heart. How can I remain aloft, When lays a nymph below so soft? Cut the throttle; stall the craft, Pitch the nose into the draft. Oh, to ditch into that pond, Through the surface and beyond. Swooping down between the swells, There, I find the maiden dwells. Sounded, startled, tender quarry, How she breaches in her glory! I in air, she in water, Lovely, sweet, celestial daughter, Live no more within the sea, Oh, thou cherish'd Amymone. -shanghaibenny2 Poem to honor the radiance of Gene Tierney, who it was said was 'too beautiful for love.' Bilal - Is This Love

On August 30th, 2010, a very special rendition of Bob Marley’s “Is This Love” was recorded in Los Angeles.
It was a very special day. Perfect weather, a studio reminiscent of a studio in Capitol Records during the 60’s, a great cast of musicians… the stars aligned and this video was made.
Plug Research approached Bilal and Miguel separately with the idea of doing cover songs. Since they’re both friends and admire one another’s work, (Bilal performed at Timeless: Suite for MaDukes), it was a easy match.
It was Bilal’s idea to work on “Is This Love.” Miguel booked the talented cast of musicians, many he had worked with before, and wrote the basic charts. Bilal made sure to get the sound he was looking for.
A couple of songs were recorded during this session… So if you’re interested to hear how Bilal’s renditions of Soft Cells “Tainted Love” turned out, or even Portisheads “Strangers”… well you’ll just have to check back. But for now, enjoy Bilal’s rendition of Bob Marley’s “Is This Love.”
Airtight’s Revenge on Plug Research is Bilal’s first album in 10 years. Make sure to get a copy of it by going to itunes.

Bilal - Tainted Love
http://www.plugresearch.com
This is a jam session. An act of improvisation without preparation.
This is a video continuation of the Bilal and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Bomb Shelter saga entitled, “Tainted Love.”
Known by many as Synthpop duo Soft Cell’s big hit in 1981, “Tainted Love” was originally composed by Ed Cobb, formerly of The Four Preps and originally recorded by Gloria Jones in 1964 as the B-side to “My Bad Boy’s Coming Home”. The original version was by no means a commercial success. In fact, it was a flop. However, in 1973, while British club DJ Richard Searling was on a trip to the U.S., he purchased a copy and found the Motown-influenced sound was a perfect match for the music movement with was growing in the UK club scene referred to as “Northern Soul. Searling took the song and popularized it.
With new found popularity, Gloria Jones tried again, re-recording “Tainted Love” in 1976. But this again failed to chart.
Several years later, Soft Cell, the vocal-synth pop duo that took the popular track and released a slower, synth and rhythm heavy version in 1981. It reached #1 on 18 different charts.
So now, we’re back to the beginning. Bilal, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Daedelus, and more, in the studio jamming away to Gloria Jones’ original version of that great 1964 song.
It’s just pure energy. The musicians, the movements, the sounds..
No overdubs, no retouches, just 100% LIVE.
Enjoy.

Lyrics:
1) Take my hand
I'm a stranger in paradise
All lost in a wonderland
A stranger in paradise
If I stand starry-eyed
That's a danger in paradise
For mortals who stand beside
An angel like you
I saw your face
And I ascended
Out of the commonplace
Into the rare
Somewhere in space
I hang suspended
Until I know
There's a chance that you care
Won't you answer the fervent prayer
Of a stranger in paradise
Don't send me in dark despair
From all that I hunger for
But open your angel's arms
To the stranger in paradise
And tell him
That he need be
A stranger no more!
"Stranger in Paradise" is a popular song from the 1953 musical Kismet and is credited to Robert Wright and George Forrest. Like all the music in that show, the melody was based on music composed by Alexander Borodin, in this case, the "Gliding Dance of the Maidens," from the Polovtsian Dances.
Richard Kiley and Doretta Morrow (Man of La Mancha and The King and I) performed the song in the original cast of Kismet. Vic Damone and Ann Blyth performed the song in the 1955 film.
Bing Crosby versions in 1953.
The most popular version was sung by Tony Bennett (1953), but other versions by The Four Aces and Tony Martin also received popular favor in 1954. Bennett's version reached number one in the UK Singles Chart in May 1955.[1] It was not until 1955 that Kismet, and thus the songs from the show, came to London. It was Bennett's debut hit record in the United Kingdom.
Keely Smith, Ray Conniff, Wes Montgomery, George Shearing, Curtis Counce, Isaac Hayes, Sun Ra, The Supremes (for their album I Hear A Symphony), Sarah Brightman, and Saint Etienne have also recorded cover versions of this standard.
The song was also featured in the video game Jikkyō Oshaberi Parodius for the PlayStation. Not only did it appear as background music in Parodius, it was also featured in Ape Escape 3 on the Saru-Mon's (Immobile) Castle stage.
In the 1999 film, Breakfast of Champions, based on the book of the same name by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., the song is used as a recurring motif.
It also appeared in an anime, Absolute Boy, as a ringtone.
Violinist André Rieu also made an orchestral cover of this song. It is also used in the rap song Prince Igor by The Rapsody, Warren G and Sissel - Wikipedia
2) Laura is the face in the misty light
Footsteps that you hear down the hall
The LAUGH that floats on a summer night
That you can never quite recall
And you see Laura on a train that is passing through
Those eyes how familiar they seem
She gave your very first kiss to you
That was Laura but she's only a dream
She gave your very first kiss to you
That was Laura
But she's only a dream!
"Laura" is a 1945 popular song composed by David Raksin, with lyrics written by Johnny Mercer from the 1944 movie starring Gene Tierney and Dana Andrews. It has since become a jazz standard with over four hundred known recordings. The best known versions are by Billy Eckstine & Bobby Tucker Quartet, Charlie Parker, J. J. Johnson, Woody Herman, Frank Sinatra and Julie London (included on her album Julie Is Her Name). It was adapted from the theme of the 1944 film, Laura.
Notable recordings:
Eric Winstone and His Band Song: Alan Lane. Recorded in London on June 6, 1945. It was released by EMI on the HMV Records label as catalogue number BD 5893

But never ever on a Sunday a Sunday a Sunday

"Never on Sunday", also known as "Ta Paidia Tou Piraia" (Greek: Τα Παιδιά του Πειραιά; English: The Children of Piraeus) is a popular song by Manos Hadjidakis. A vocal version was also released and performed by Melina Mercouri in the film of same name directed by Jules Dassin and starring Mercouri. I thought this traditional song performed here by Enya suited Gene's ethereal, engimatic and elegant presence. I think Gene would probably have disagreed with me ("Of all the people I know, I am probably the least mysterious. I had no trouble playing any kind of role. My problems began when I had to be myself."), but there's a kind of magical quality to her performances. I don't think she thought of herself as a great talent, an example of that being her reaction to her role in the enduring classic film noir "Laura" (1944) - "I never thought my own performance was much more than adequate. I'm pleased that people still identify me with Laura, as opposed to not being identified at all. The tributes I believe, are for the character - the dream-like Laura - rather than any gifts I brought to the role." It's also interesting to me that she felt that "Dragonwyck" (1946) was a forgettable picture, but the film's cult following would suggest anything but. Of course, the movie of which she was most proud the one that resulted in her only Oscar nomination - "Leave Her To Heaven" (1945). "As much as any part I played, Ellen had ...
