South2North - Leading in a man's world
www.youtube.com News Video Network Plz Subscrib for Latest World News South2North meets two women who are challenging leadership stereotypes. Joining us from Washington DC, is the former French finance minister and also the first female head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, who was recently described by Forbes Magazine as the 8th most powerful woman in the world. One of the areas of life worldwide where women have struggled to be treated equally is religion of course. In October this year, the Church of England voted controversially not to allow women bishops to be ordained. There is talk now that that decision may be reviewed but in the meantime, in Southern Africa we have led the way. A few days after the Church of England's decision, the church's Southern Africa body consecrated its first female Bishop, Ellinah Wamukoya. We talk to her about the challenges facing her.

Michael Tellinger Adams Calendar
The discovery of the ancient stone calendar site by Johan Heine (Adam's Calendar) in among all these stone dwellings and temples, would suggest that some of the structures would date back to the same era as the calendar some 75000 years ago. It shows us with a certain level of clarity that these lost civilizations have been around for much longer than anyone could ever have imagined. It would not be absurd to then suggest that we may be staring at the very first concentrated human settlements inhabited by the early Homo sapiens. Gold Human history on Earth cannot be separated from gold. Since the earliest of times, humans have been obsessed with gold and have been mining it in all kinds of ways. Even God, as early as Genesis 2, displays his own obsession with gold when he talks about the garden of Eden where there was gold. There are at least 2000 ancient gold mines scattered throughout Southern Africa, in close proximity to the ruins. Many speculations have been thrown about by all and sundry about the Land of Ophir, its location and the whereabouts of Queen Sheba. Most of these speculations tend to point to southern Africa as its most likely location. And why not? This is after all the place where most of the gold in the world has been mined in modern history, and it was no different in ancient times. Is it a coincidence that the richest gold mine in the world today, Sheba Gold Mine, is located right here in Mpumalanga, South Africa? Could these ancient settlements ...

Predators and Prey: Okavango
A river delta usually leads to the open sea. But in Botswana in southern Africa, the Okavango River empties into open land, creating the flooded habitat for an array of savannah wildlife. It's a place where predators try to make a kill... and prey fight for survival.

Black Mamba v. Starlings.wmv
In 2011, Nancy and I made our third trip to Africa in less than five years. This time, it was a photo and video safari to the southern African countries of Botswana and Zambia. As we were now veterans of the African bush, having already spent many weeks in Kenya and Tanzania alone with several very knowledgable guides who had taught us much about the bush and its hazards. We had heard and read much about the Black Mamba, an extremely deadly snake, but we had never seen one. In the Botswana bush, in the vicinity of the Okavango Delta, we had our first encounter with a Mamba which was attacking the nest of a beautiful pair of Starlings as it wrapped itself around and in a standing dead tree obviously housing the young of these desperate Starlings. The Starlings would have to begin again!

African Secrets - Traditional Dancing
This episode shows various dances from different cultures in Southern Africa. The episode is shot at Victoria Falls where tourists from around the globe can enjoy the art of dancing. The drumming, the humming and singing and the gestures all combine to show the uniqueness of African traditional dancing. The attire of the dancers by itself also speaks the story of Africa. The Nyau, Makishi and Ndebele dancers are only a few of the dancing groups showcasing their talent in the African night in this video. The dancing routines shown by these groups are similar within the region. In Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Namibia- one can find the same dances.
