East West Rail
As part of a presentation to stakeholders, the East West Rail Project animation needed to communicate the scope, ambition and positive impact of a large scale infrastructure project. Stretching from Reading through Oxford and on to Bedford, the East West Rail link is a huge project - and one whose story has many chapters to tell. With that in mind, Virtual Viewing created a storyboard for the animation that was not only an unusual and effective way to present, but also allowed us the flexibility to add new chapters as the story evolved and progressed. Our creative team providing a wide range of skills and services as input to the project, including scripting, 3d modelling and animation, and voice-over support.- published: 22 Jan 2014

VOLCOM WITP 2012 FRANCE
Last weekend was a total Wild In The Parks blast around Europe with 5 events simultaneously, celebrating back to school the Volcom way on this first weekend of September.
The French WITP contest was held in the student city of Montpellier in the South of France, at the old and legendary Grammont skatepark, right after it receives a facelift much needed. Our friend Shutzi at IOU ramps did a good job refreshing half of the park and the event came in perfect to test the new obstacles.
Registration started early and around 120 skaters signed in for the three divisions on offer, lots of locals and a bunch of people coming from all the South of France from far East Hyères and Marseille, to Bordeaux or Hossegor in the West, including a couple from Lyon, Nimes, Valence and other close cities.
Despite the windy conditions that made it difficult for the flip tricks, the new course has been annihilated as soon as the contest started with the 14 and Under division. The kids were going for it and the level was pretty high, it’s always fun to see the ones just cruising and having a good time together with the more competitive ones.
A lot of tricks got landed such as clean fs heelflips from Hugo Rekika taking the 3rd place to the fierce battle of Vincent Matheron and Robin Bolian landing back to back bs 540 on the hip, Vincent finishing in 2nd and Robin taking the win with other solid tricks.
The 15 and Over division saw the level of skateboarding increasing (maybe because of the supertasty barbecue) with again tons of talented skaters. Victor Campillo was destroying the course but couldn’t get his tricks together during the finals (trying a sweet switch heel down the gap) and didn’t finish in the top 5. Matisse Blanc was consistant all day landing some flip back lip on the small rail on demand and a big 360 shove it on the gap and took the 3rd place, while Romuald Link and Georges Poole (the older brother) came in very close for the first place, Romuald taking the win with some fs bluntslides on the big rail and Georges finishing in second with some bs bigspins on the hip and hardflips on the gap to mention a few tricks.
On the Open division, the judges had a hard time keeping track on everything but did a good job, scoring everything landed on their spots. Etienne Gros took the 5th place with a clean style and solid tricks all contest long, Sammy Mould looks a little bit like the local Joey Brezinsky and took the 4th place, then Pierre Hoarau was as usual shredding around, litteraly destroying the bank to bank transfer with millions grind-reverse variations and tokk the 3rd place. Benjamin Garcia was also impressive going big on each of his tricks from massive 3-6 flips to fs blunt on the ledge and took the 2nd place while Victor Pellegrin went bezerk with a sprained ankle, landing everything in the end of the finals from flip fs smith flip out on the curb, to fs feeble back lip on the small rail, onto fs noseblunt slide on the big rail…winning the event.
Congrats to all the skaters who qualified for the European finals in Sevilla (top 5 of each category) and thanks to everyone who came enjoy the day with us, a free contest open to all, with free drinks, food and prizes for all...
Thanks to the Attitude association and the Montpellier skate club, to Bricksss for the photos, Jeremie, Cloben and Guillaume for judging, to Remi and all the staff , also to our product partners who stoked the kids: VOX and JART, and also BURN who kept everyone hydrated with free drinks.

Celebrating - BUILDING A RAILWAY, CONNECTING THE NATION
On 14th September 1912 the turning of the Sod to commence the construction of the 1692 KM Transcontinental Railway Line took place.
After passing a Federal Act in 1907, £20,000 was allocated for a preliminary survey. Two survey groups then set out from Port Augusta and Kalgoorlie marking the proposed route with camels dragging heavy chains and chainmen following with pegs and cairns. Meeting at the Western and South Australian border, the Western contingent travelled 716kms whilst their Eastern counterparts traversed 978kms.
Post survey, a 1063 mile (1712km) rail line was estimated at £4,045,000 and on 6 December 1911, the Bill for the Kalgoorlie to Port Augusta Railway Act was passed.
Friday 14 September 2012 marks 100 years since the first sod was turned by the Governor General in Port Augusta, South Australia to build the TAR. Although construction had already commenced, the Governor General, Prime Minister, Governor of South Australia, Minister of Defence, Minister for Home Affairs, Premier of South Australia, Members of Federal Parliament and the Mayor of Port Augusta all gathered for the official turning of the first sod by Lord Denman.
Like the survey, construction set out from Port Augusta and Kalgoorlie. Continuing through World War I, labour and materials were limited and costs exceeded £6,000,000 with an additional £866,000 spent on rolling stock.
After deviating slightly from the surveyed path, East and West rails were linked and the TAR was completed on Wednesday 17 October 1917, exactly 1051 miles or 1690kms in length.

Eastbound stack train at Horseshoe Curve, PA
An eastbound Norfolk Southern train of double-stacked containers led by ES40DC 7526 and C40-9W 9387 rolls downgrade through Horseshoe Curve on its way to Altoona, PA on June 21, 2008.
Horseshoe Curve was completed in February 1854 by the Pennsylvania Railroad as a critical link in their mainline over the Allegheny Mountains to Pittsburgh and points west. By sweeping the tracks around the curve instead of taking a straighter route to the summit, the line's ruling gradient is significantly reduced thus easing the trains' passage. 154 years after its completion, it continues to serve current owner Norfolk Southern as part of a major east-west rail artery.
