Landsat 7 Satellite Images
LANDSAT-1 - www.satimagingcorp.com - was the world's first earth observation satellite (EOS), launched by the United States in 1972. It is recognized for its ability to observe the earth far from space. Its excellent set of capabilities emphasized the importance of state-of-the-art remote sensing. Following LANDSAT-1, LANDSAT-2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 were launched. LANDSAT-7 is currently operated as a primary satellite. LANDSAT-5 was equipped with a multispectral scanner (MSS) and thematic mapper (TM). MSS is an optical sensor designed to observe solar radiation, which is reflected from the Earth's surface in four different spectral bands, using a combination of the optical system and the sensor. TM is a more advanced version of the observation equipment used in the MSS, which observes the Earth's surface in seven spectral bands that range from visible to thermal infrared regions. The thematic mapper (TM) is an advanced, multispectral scanning, earth resources sensor designed to achieve higher image resolution, sharper spectral separation, improved geometric fidelity, and greater radiometric accuracy and resolution than that of the MSS sensor. This sensor also images a swath that is 185 km (115 miles) wide, but each pixel in a TM scene represents a 30 mx 30 m ground area, except in the case of the far-infrared band 7, which uses a larger 120 mx 120 m pixel. The TM sensor has seven bands that simultaneously record reflected or emitted radiation from the Earth's surface in the ...

Landsat-7. Earth As Art (HD 1080p)
View the Earth through the eyes of the Landsat-7 satellite..images taken of Earth from space as part of the Landsat program, jointly run by USGS and NASA.They look like the work of abstract artists, but the images reflect reality - the rhythmic shapes of mountains, deserts, clouds, fjords, scattered cities and towns turned into brilliant patches of red, green and blue - flashed to earth from a satellite 440 miles in space.. Landsat Satellite Turns 25
airboyd.tv Credit NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center www.nasa.gov 132969 ... 132970 ... 132971. Like a trusty watch counting up the minutes, the Landsat 5 satellite keeps on ticking, orbit after orbit around Earth. Well beyond its design lifetime of 15000 orbits, the satellite's trajectory could go askew or its instruments could malfunction at any moment. But not today. Still observing the Earth after 25 years -- 22 beyond its three-year primary mission lifetime -- Landsat 5 collects valuable scientific data daily. Some attribute the satellite's longevity to over-engineering. Others say it's a long run of good luck. Whatever the reason, no one who attended the satellite's March 1984 launch could have expected it would still be working today. A Digital Family Photo Album Landsat 5 is one of seven satellites in the Landsat Program, designed, built and launched by NASA, and operated by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Only Landsat 5 and 7 are still operational. With the launch failure of the privately built Landsat 6 in 1993 and the launch of Landsat 7 in 1999, scientists would have had a 12-year gap in observations if Landsat 5 had only lasted for its primary mission lifetime. "Such a gap would have been a scientific disaster," said Darrel Williams, Landsat project scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md. Continuity is important because it's only through consistent observation that scientists can clearly identify human impacts on Earth and natural ...

Guinea-Bissau
Guinea-Bissau is a small country in West Africa. Complex patterns can be seen in the shallow waters along its coastline, where silt carried by the Geba and other rivers washes out into the Atlantic Ocean.

Desolation Canyon
Utah’s Green River flows south across the Tavaputs Plateau (top) before entering Desolation Canyon (center). The Canyon slices through the Roan and Book Cliff--two long, staircase-like escarpments. Nearly as deep as the Grand Canyon, Desolation Canyon is one of the largest unprotected wilderness areas in the American West.

Landsat: Making a Difference, One User At A Time
September 28, 2012 The Landsat Data Continuity Mission will continue and improve upon the 40-year-old Landsat program. This video examines two uses of Landsat data to monitor agriculture. Both wineries and timber companies rely on Landsat data to check whether their vines and trees are getting enough (or too much) water and fertilizer. The small resolution and regular repeat cycle of the satellite data is crucial to monitoring the health of their crops. NASA and the US Department of the Interior through the US Geological Survey (USGS) jointly manage Landsat, and the USGS preserves a 40-year archive of Landsat images that is freely available over the Internet. The next Landsat satellite, now known as the Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM) and later to be called Landsat 8, is scheduled for launch in 2013. credit: NASA Topics: Technology Internet, Space technology, Spaceflight, Landsat program, Environment, Landsat 5, Landsat 7, Landsat Data Continuity Mission redOrbit (s.tt Landsat: Making a Difference, One User At A Time September 27, 2012 The Landsat Data Continuity Mission will continue and improve upon the 40-year-old Landsat program. Carol Moogk-Soulis: Schoolyard Heat Islands — They're A Problem, Pass It On
When kids are outside for school recess, they play, right? Not if their schoolyard is too hot. At Ignite Waterloo 6 on June 15, 2011, Carol Moogk-Soulis shares her passion, her research, the resulting problems, and a call to action to plant trees. A study commissioned by the Riverside Optimist Club in Windsor in collaboration with the Public Health Units of Windsor-Essex, Sarnia-Lambton and Chatham-Kent in southwestern Ontario using LANDSAT-7 satellite imagery to measure the surface temperatures of over 800 schoolyards and public spaces found average surface temperatures as high as 103 degrees Celsius when air temperature was just over 25 degrees Celsius." If that seems like too much then at least " A study using LANDSAT-7 satellite imagery to measure the surface temperatures of over 800 schoolyards and public spaces found average surface temperatures as high as 103 degrees Celsius when air temperature was just over 25 degrees Celsius.
