Nuremberg Trials Documentary Video: US Army Film Version (1950 WW2 Movie)
DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Between 1945 and 1946, German officials involved in the Holocaust and other war crimes were brought before an international tribunal in the Nuremberg Trials. The Soviet Union had wanted these trials to take place in Berlin. However, Nuremberg was chosen as the site for the trials for specific reasons: The city had been the location of the Nazi Party's Nuremberg rallies and the laws stripping Jews of their citizenship were passed there. There was symbolic value in making it the place of Nazi demise. The Palace of Justice was spacious and largely undamaged (one of the few that had remained largely intact despite extensive Allied bombing of Germany). The already large courtroom was reasonably easily expanded by the removal of the wall at the end opposite the bench, thereby incorporating the adjoining room. A large prison was also part of the complex. As a compromise, it was agreed that Berlin would become the permanent seat of the International Military Tribunal and that the first trial (several were planned) would take place in Nuremberg. Due to the Cold War, subsequent trials never took place. The same courtroom in Nuremberg was the venue of the Nuremberg Military Tribunals, organised by the United States as occupying power in the area. The Nuremberg Trials were a series of military tribunals, held by the main victorious Allied forces of World War II, most notable for the prosecution of prominent members of the political, military ...

The Dwight D. Eisenhower Story: Biography, Military Career - US Army Documentary
DVD: www.amazon.com More Eisenhower films: thefilmarchived.blogspot.com The military career of Dwight D. Eisenhower encompassed over forty years of active service. Eisenhower enrolled at the United States Military Academy at West Point in June 1911. His parents were against militarism, but did not object to his entering West Point because they supported his education. Eisenhower was a strong athlete and enjoyed notable successes in his competitive endeavors. In 1912, a spectacular Eisenhower touchdown won praise from the sports reporter of the New York Herald, and he even managed, with the help of a linebacker teammate, to tackle the legendary Jim Thorpe. In the very next week, however, his promising sports career ended when he incurred a severe knee injury. Eisenhower graduated in 1915. He served with the infantry until 1918 at various camps in Texas and Georgia. During World War I, Eisenhower became the #3 leader of the new tank corps and rose to temporary (Bvt.) Lieutenant Colonel in the National Army. He spent the war training tank crews in Pennsylvania and never saw combat. He thought to be so valuable as a tank instructor that it would have been to great a risk to send him into combat for fear of him getting killed. After the war, Eisenhower reverted to his regular rank of captain (and was promoted to major a few days later) before assuming duties at Camp Meade, Maryland, where he remained until 1922. His interest in tank warfare was strengthened by many ...

Fort Haunted, New York
Fort Haunted, New York
In 2008, while filming a low-budget independent cop movie, we discovered why nobody lives on the Fort Totten Army Base in Queens New York. Police, Fire, EMS, and Military personnel have said they have witnessed several strange events, and heard voices throughout the base. The original use of Fort Totten was to protect the East River approach to New York City. Much of the property is now a park and still houses facilities of the US Coast Guard, National Guard, US Army and the NYC Fire Department Training Academy. In 1857, the US government purchased the fort a...t Willets Point, just north of Bayside from the Willet family. Five years later construction began on what would become Fort Totten, which played a major role in protecting the entrance to the East River between the Civil War and World War I. In 1898, it was renamed for Brevet Major General Joseph Totten, a man with a distinguished military career who fought and served as chief engineer in several wars, including the Civil War. Throughout the years the site has been used as the headquarters of the Eastern Defense command's Anti-Aircraft Command, headquarters for the Air Transport Command's North Atlantic region, headquarters for more than half of the Nike missle sites in the nation, and home to the 77th Regional Readiness Command of the US Army Reserves. In 2004, the federal government transferred 49.5 of Fort Totten's 147 acres over to the City of New York Parks and Recreation Department, which officially opened ...

Four French Military at the Colombian Lanceros School (clip)
War is a Racket by Smedley Butler
War is a Racket by Smedley Butler
War is a Racket by Smedley Butler is a famous speech denouncing the military industrial complex. This anti-war speech by two-time Congressional Medal of Honor recipient exposes war profits that benefit few at the expense of many. Throughout his distinguished career in the Marines, Smedley Darlington Butler demonstrated that true patriotism does not mean blind allegiance to government policies with which one does not agree. To Hell with war. Butler was only one of 19 people ever awarded the Medal of Honor twice and the only person to be awarded a Marine Corps Brevet Medal and a Medal of Honor for two different actions. After it dawned on him how his heroism and the heroism of the troops under his command had been misused, he wrote a book called "War is a Racket" which I can virtually guarantee you never heard about in school. Butler concluded there are only two reasons to ever take up arms: 1. To defend the country against real - not manufactured - attacks 2. To defend the Bill of Rights

Keegan was one of the lucky ones who survived the massacre. But the fickle winds of fortune soon shifted on Pvt.Keegan.In December of the same year, chronic rheumatism led to his discharge from the Army he had served for 21 years. For the next ten years, the Civil War veteran lived in soldiers' homes until he moved to Chicago in 1886.There he lived in a boarding house until he died of cancer at the age of 74 and was buried in a pauper's grave in Evanston, Ill. Since he had no family, the $55 bill for Keegan's burial in Cavalry Cemetery remained outstanding, as did the debt his adopted country owed him for his dedicated military service - until now.Nearly 150 years after he left Ireland in search of a better life in America, and 99 years after he died alone and penniless, Keegan received a military burial with full honors and was laid to rest on Veterans Day in the cemetery at Fort Sheridan, Ill.He was reburied near three of his 7th Cavalry comrades. ... WIKILEAKS MEPs send a letter to US gov. expressing concerns about Bradley Manning
WIKILEAKS: MEPs send a letter to US government expressing concerns about the human rights of Bradley Manning Wednesday 30 November 11:30, press room, European Parliament, Brussels MEP's Marisa Matias (GUE/NGL), Christian Engström (Greens-EFA), Ana Gomes (S&D), Marietje Schaak (ALDE) and Christofer Fjellner (EPP), will present to the press a letter addressed that same day by themselves and 50 other colleagues of the European Parliament to President Obama, Members of the US Congress, and US military authorities. The letter refers to very serious breaches of the civil and human rights of Mr. Bradley Manning, the young soldier whom the US Army has accused of releasing classified information pertaining to possible US war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan. The open letter to the US government specifically calls on the US government to grant the request of the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Juan Mendez, to meet privately with Bradley Manning. The US government has so far denied the request of Mr. Mendez, which was prompted by reports that Bradley Manning was imprisoned for an extended period in conditions of solitary confinement, nudity, sleep deprivation, and other psychological abuse. The US Army has accused Bradley Manning of "aiding the enemy," a capital offense that is punishable by death. The 23-year old soldier has been imprisoned for 17 months without yet having had his day in court. An initial hearing has recently been scheduled for December 16.

The Model 1859 McClellan Saddle
The Model 1859 McClellan Saddle
The Model 1859 McClellan saddle From www.militaryhorse.org The final recommendation of the selection board was to have the production saddles covered with rawhide instead of the impractical thin varnished leather. Changes from the M1857 saddle include small saddlebags, iron hardware, hooded bare-wood stirrups, as well as changes in related equipment, and a three buckle bridle instead of the six (brass) buckle bridle of the 1857 equipments. These changes occurred after the 1857 model contracts of August 1859 were modified by Brevet Major Peter V. Hagner, commanding officer of Frankford Arsenal in November, 1859. The first contracts were made with the following companies (350 sets contracted from each) were: Lacey & Phillips, Knorr & Nece of Philadelphia; and Robert Hartley & Company of Pittsburgh. The adoption of the McClellan saddle in 1859 is useful in showing the role economics has played in the evolution of this piece of equipment. With the tremendous need for all kinds of military equipment in 1861, there started a huge acquisition program for these items, including horse equipment. Early contracted equipment tended to be hastily constructed, many times to the point that the defrauded government was stuck with unacceptable goods. This practice of shoddy workmanship was not to last throughout the duration of the war. After some delay in getting a grasp on the procurement and inspection process, there was an upheaval in the procurement process, initiated by the ...

Tesla Nikola
Tesla Nikola
