John Austin IV, (born September 25, 1973) better known by his stage name Ras Kass, is an American rapper. He is also a part of hip hop supergroup The HRSMN along with Canibus, Killah Priest, and Kurupt.

Biography

Austin was born in Watts, California on September 26, 1973.

Early career

Ras Kass sent waves through the hip-hop world with his debut independent single release "Remain Anonymous," earning him a Hip-Hop Quotable in ''The Source Magazine''. Before his signing with Priority/EMI Records, Ras Kass began making guest appearances on several records and freestyles on numerous radio shows, further solidified the emerging lyricist's notoriety. Recorded guest appearances include Sway & King Tech's "Come Widdit" (feat. Ras Kass, Ahamad & Saafir) (Priority Records) and their "Wake Up Show Anthem ’94" (feat. Ras Kass, Nas, Lauryn Hill, Chino XL, Organized Konfusion & Saafir), as well as Chino XL's "Riiot" American Records, and KeyKool & Rhettmatic's "E=MC5" (feat. Ras Kass, LMNO, Meen Green & !) Up Above Records.

''Soul on Ice'' & ''Rasassination''

From a young age, Austin was influenced by hip hop music, inspired by a variety of emcees including Ice Cube, Rakim, Scarface, and KRS-One. His first album, ''Soul on Ice'', was released in 1996. Taking its name from a book by Eldridge Cleaver, Ras addressed racial relations in the same manner, most notably with "Ordo Abchao" and "Nature of the Threat." The album was released on Priority Records, as was the follow-up, ''Rasassination'', which featured beats from Easy Mo Bee and guest appearances by RZA, Twista, Xzibit, Mack 10 and Dr. Dre. Lead single "Ghetto Fabulous" featured Dre and Mack 10 and was pushed by a lavish video shoot. The album received generally positive reviews, and shortly afterward the MC announced his third album, ''Van Gogh''.

Priority Issues, ''Van Gogh'' & ''Goldyn Chyld''

During the recording of Ras's intended third album, ''Van Gogh'', Priority Records merged with Capitol Records, which acquired the emcee’s contract and his material. Initially near completion, the album was heavily bootlegged before any single or promotion could be prepared. In fact, the would be single "Van Gogh" was even played on an episode of The Sopranos. Ras went back to work overhauling the project, procuring tracks from DJ Premier, Hi-Tek, and Dr. Dre and retaining songs from Rockwilder and Battlecat. Tensions arose during the re-recording, from budget restrictions to lack of promotion:

Ras Kass was also involved in The HRSMN, sometimes called the 4 Hrsmn, consisting of himself, Kurupt, Killah Priest, and Canibus. ''The Horsemen Project'', a white-label of rough tracks by the four, was released in 2003, but no other releases have been subsequently forthcoming. Finally, nearing the completion of his album, the MC and Priority disagreed over the lead single. Originally pushing "Goldyn Chyld," produced by DJ Premier, Priority executives decided to try to release the Dr. Dre-produced "The Whoop" instead, against the wishes of both Ras Kass and Dr. Dre. As he was finishing up ''Goldyn Chyld'', Kass was pulled over in California and arrested for a D.U.I., marking his third; though sentenced to jail time, he was given an extension. Two weeks before the start of his sentence, Priority informed him of their decision not to put out ''Goldyn Chyld'' after all. Becoming a fugitive, Ras attained the masters to his project, recorded some music, and finally turned himself in to police. During this time, he also had minor problems with producer the Alchemist, who sold Ras a beat that he later re-sold to rapper Jadakiss, which ultimately formed the basis for the track "We Gon' Make It."

Incarceration, ''Institutionalized'', Priority Release

After serving only 19 months for his D.U.I. charge, Ras Kass recorded the album ''Institutionalized'' and began seeking release from his contract with Priority/Capitol Records. Though intended to be an album, it was released as a mixtape, generating a moderate buzz despite Capitol's alleged reluctance. He would go on to release two more mixtapes in 2006, ''Revenge of the Spit'' and ''Eat or Die'', and got into a fight with former G-Unit rapper The Game over an alleged reference to the rapper's son in a freestyle . In October 2007, Kass finally succeeded in being released from his record contract. However, after rumors of a deal with Def Jam or G-Unit Records, he was again incarcerated, this time for violating his parole by flying to the 2007 BET Awards. During this time, he put out the album ''Institutionalized Vol. 2'' on Babygrande Records. After nearly two years of incarceration, Ras Kass was released from jail at the end of May 2009.

Rass Kass talks about his arrest and incarceration in the 2011 film ''Rhyme and Punishment'' which documents Rap artists who have spent time behind bars.

The Quarterly

Featured in HipHopDX's Underground Report, Ras Kass revealed that his next release would be a project called ''The Quarterly''. Originally intended to be completed within the fourth quarter of 2009, it comprises a song a week released in the fashion of fellow west coast emcee Crooked I's ''Hip-Hop Weekly'' and Freeway's ''Month of Madness''. Though released in this format, the collected songs was released as an album. "The Quarterly" was released on November 23, 2009 via www.raskass-central.com and includes nineteen tracks featuring collaborations by Killah Priest, Mistah F.A.B. and Krondon of Strong Arm Steady, with production from Pete Rock, Veterano, and others.

A.D.I.D.A.S. Kickstarter Project & Save The Ras Kass

In 2010 Ras Kass launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the manufacture of 1000 CDs and 500 vinyls for his A.D.I.D.A.S. project and a viral marketing campaign called Save The Ras Kass, which included a series of satirical webisodes about the plight of the endangered emcee. In an interview with MTV UK writer Han O'Connor he explained his decision to use Kickstarter, stating "we started trying different angles at solving old problems. Kickstarter was the natural evolution of trying creative new business models. When we put out ''The Quarterly'' there were people that said, ‘well how come you didn’t create a CD for this?’ and I’m like ‘well if I have to spend that $5000 and you want one, I appreciate it but there’s the small problem that I spent $5000.’" His webisodes document the downfall of an emcee, as he explained, "You just see this downward spiral; it’s just that fall from grace and I’m kind of making fun of that and using me as the vehicle for it."

Heltah Skeltah is a hip hop duo consisting of members (Jahmal Bush) Rock (aka Tha Rockness Monstah) and (Sean Price) Ruck (aka '''Ruckus''). The two are members of New York supergroup Boot Camp Clik, along with Buckshot, Smif-N-Wessun and O.G.C.. The name "Heltah Skeltah" is a reference and homage to The Beatles, specifically their song "Helter Skelter" from the famous album ''The Beatles''.

Biography

Heltah Skeltah debuted on Smif-N-Wessun's album ''Dah Shinin''' in 1995, appearing on the tracks "Wontime", "Cession at da Doghillee" and "Let's Git It On". Later in 1995, they grouped up with fellow Boot Camp members O.G.C. to form The Fab 5 (another nod to The Beatles), and released a surprise hit single, "Leflaur Leflah Eshkoshka". Out of The Fab 5 members, Rock and Ruck received the most amount of attention, due to their notable charisma and chemistry. The duo released their anticipated debut ''Nocturnal'' in June 1996, which included "Leflah", as well as the singles "Operation Lock Down" and "Therapy". The album sold over 250,000 copies in the United States, and has become a classic in the underground Hip Hop scene because of its grimy, basement sound and strong lyrics. The duo released a group album with the Boot Camp in 1997, then followed in 1998 with their second effort ''Magnum Force''. The album's lead single, "I Ain't Havin' That" (sampled from the A Tribe Called Quest track "Hot Sex", with the chorus sampling Redman's 1996 hit "Pick it Up"), became a Hot 100 hit. Despite the single's success, the album was criticised due to its lighter content. Ruck and Rock seemed disillusioned with their lack of sales, and split up soon after the ''Magnum Force'' album. Rock began having problems with Duck Down Records, and split with the label, signing to DJ Lethal's Lethal Records. He planned to release an album titled ''Planet Rock'', but the label folded and the album disappeared. Sean Price remained with the Camp for their second album ''The Chosen Few'' in 2002. Heltah Skeltah reunited in 2005, making appearances on Sean Price's solo album ''Monkey Barz'' and Smif-N-Wessun's ''Smif 'N' Wessun: Reloaded''. The duo continued work with the Boot Camp for their third group effort ''The Last Stand'', released in July 2006. In 2007, Heltah Skeltah had a track included on the ''Official Joints'' mixtape, a collection of previously unreleased songs by NYC rappers. Heltah Skeltah dropped their third album together tentatively titled ''D.I.R.T. (Da Incredible Rap Team)'' which was released on September 30, 2008. Other solo future projects include ''Monster Music'' and ''Mic Tyson''. They will also be releasing the ''Shell Shock DVD''. Sean Price is currently working on ''Random Axe''.

Dom Pachino (born Domingo J. Del Valle in Manhattan, New York City) is a rapper of Puerto Rican descent. He is a member of the rap group Killarmy and also has a solo career. He is also known as P.R. Terrorist, but he has rarely used this name since the September 11, 2001 attacks afraid that it may be taken the wrong way and affect sales.

Biography

Born in uptown Manhattan and later moving to Staten Island's Stapleton Projects and starting the 1st Grade while adapting to a more slower pace of life, but still pretty urban in its own right, was a young Latin MC named Dom Pachino a.k.a. P.R. Terrorist. He started out by showcasing his talents in public school lunch rooms while urging friends would provide a beat for him by banging on tables with fist and bare knuckles. During that period (Pre - WU-TANG), he ultimately became best friends with RZA's brother, 9th Prince, and would later form the group KILLARMY. He went from rapping in the survival dorms of C-74 and C-76 in Riker’s Island Correctional Facility, while completing his juvenile bid for Gun possession and Assault charges, to making a name for himself locally in the slums of Staten Island's then small hip hop circles in the early 90's.

Experiencing three successful major releases (two through Priority Records, and one through Loud Records) with a debut album that cracked the top ten billboard charts, three world tours with WU-TANG CLAN and countless features on gold albums such as RZA’s first Bobby Digital project and The Swarm Compilation. Riding off the success of his last group album in 2002, Pachino established his own independent record company called Napalm Recordings, which he released a slew of underground mix tapes via online, mom and pop record stores, and digitally. He also completed an international tour headlining venues in the United States, South America, Europe, and Africa.

He has appeared on programs in the USA such as Comedy Central and the Larry Sanders Show. He is now working as a solo artist and producer.

Acting career

In addition to his music work, Dom Pachino is an actor that has appeared in a number of films, television and cable programs including Gospel Hill is a 2008 film directed and produced by Giancarlo Esposito Starring Danny Glover,Angela Bassett,Samuel L. Jackson, the Larry Sanders Show, the Jon Stewart Show, CSI: NY, and the Bobby Digital film by RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan.

Stanley Petey Cox (born January 23, 1982), better known by his stage name Mistah F.A.B.(Faeva Afta Bread), is an American rapper from North Oakland, California. He attended Oakland Technical High School and Emery High School. He is signed to Bay Area rap legend Mac Dre's label, Thizz Entertainment and Atlantic Records. Mistah F.A.B. is an acronym for "Money Is Something to Always Have — FaEva Afta Bread."

Early life

Mistah F.A.B. was born and raised in Oakland, California and raised by his grandmother and his mother, who sometimes worked four jobs to support him while his father was incarcerated. When F.A.B. was 12, his father died of complications of AIDS. Around that time, F.A.B. started writing and rapping. In high school F.A.B. competed in freestyle rap battles.

Musical career

Mistah F.A.B. began his musical rise in the Bay Area as a young artist signed to Straight Hits Entertainment, where he dropped his debut album, ''Nig-Latin'' in 2003. Although this album garnered some success and recognition, the majority of FAB's recognition came from his skills as a battle rapper. Mistah F.A.B. has battled many MCs in the hip-hop world, including Clyde Carson of The Team, Killa Keise, Lil Al, Spade, and Locksmith of The Frontline. FAB is most known for his freestyle battles with Jin of Ruff Ryders and Royce Da 5'9. He also has the uncanny ability to freestyle for long stretches of time. Specifically, he is known for being able to rap "off the top of the dome" anywhere at anytime, as evidenced when he did a freestyle from his hospital bed after a car accident. In 2004, Mistah F.A.B. signed to Mac Dre's Thizz Entertainment. Under Thizz ENT, Fab blossomed as a front runner in the Bay Area's Hyphy movement. With songs like "Super Sic Wit It," "N.E.W. Oakland," and "Kicked Out The Club," FAB's ''Son of a Pimp'' album was an instant success around the Bay Area.

FAB's first single release was the hit "Ghost Ride It," in 2006. FAB's video for the song became a subject of criticism due to its directions on how to ghost ride, as well as its use of the Ghostbusters' car without the express approval from Columbia Pictures, which owned the rights to the Ghostbusters franchise and car. The video was eventually pulled from Viacom's MTV for its alleged copyright violation. The song references actor Patrick Swayze, lead star in the 1990 film ''Ghost'', sparking internet references to ghost riding as "Ghost ride. Go crazy. Who's that driving? Patrick Swayze!"

In 2007, FAB released ''Da Baydestrian''. Because of a feud with Bay Area radio station KMEL, FAB was not able to promote ''Da Baydestrian'' like his prior albums, but it still garnered success. Because of FAB's local success and his reputation as a freestyle battle rapper, major record labels began to call. FAB signed with Atlantic Records in 2007, but has yet to release his ''Da Yellow Bus Rydah'' album.

Car accident

On Friday February 6, 2009 FAB was bruised and swollen when a car his manager was driving crashed in Los Angeles, California. It was reported that the two were ghost riding at the time. However, when confronted by reporters, FAB denied the allegations stating that he "wasn't ghost riding, and instead was car surfing." Witnesses say that Patrick Swayze was actually driving the car at the time of the accident.

Derek Keith Barbosa (born April 8, 1974), better known by his stage name Chino XL, is an American hip hop lyricist, battle rapper, and actor of Puerto Rican and African American descent. The nephew of Bernie Worrell of Parliament/Funkadelic, Chino is known for his technically accomplished style, consisting of self-consciously over-the-top punchlines, exaggerated egotism, and use of multiple similes, puns, metaphors, and word play. He is a member of the intellectual collective MENSA and has collaborated on various projects with some of the most well known artists in Hip Hop. Chino is also an avid bodybuilder.

Aside from music, Chino, also forged a career in acting, appearing in several films and making guest appearances on the Comedy Central series ''Reno 911!'' and the CBS series ''CSI: Miami''. He has starred in films alongside Kate Hudson, Luke Wilson, and Rob Reiner and had a solo project debut at Robert Redford's Sundance Film Festival.

Career

After co-founding the duo Art of Origin, the emcee was signed at age 16 by music impresario Rick Rubin to Rubin's American Recordings imprint, which was once part of the Warner Bros. Records family. He released his debut album ''Here to Save You All'' in 1996. The debut was released to critical acclaim and major airplay by radio and MTV.

Chino is specifically targeted and verbally attacked by rapper 2pac near the end of the 1996 diss track "Hit 'Em Up", due to Chino's song "Riiiot!", which had contained a mention of Shakur which Shakur believed mocked him.

Following Prince's departure from Warner, Chino was released by the label as well, and he released his second album. ''I Told You So'' in 2001, and his third album ''Poison Pen'' in 2006.

In 2007, Chino signed a contract with urban Latin record label and Universal imprint Machete Music.

In 2009 during a controversial interview with Allhiphop.com writer Han O'Connor, Chino revealed that his fifth studio album ''The RICANstruction'' is to be released in 2011. The album will be released via his own joint venture CPR/Universal and will feature the likes of Immortal Technique, Tech N9ne, Ras Kass, Crooked I and Bun B. The RICANstruction will also feature an unreleased collaboration with D12's Proof and a song with Big Pun. The album will be executive produced by Focus... and also feature production from DJ Khalil.

On August 19, a song titled "N.I.C.E." and produced by Nick Wiz was leaked.
