Rediscovery of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker
John W. Fitzpatrick, Director of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology at Cornell University discusses the rediscovery of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker and the various questions that have been raised as to authenticity of the rediscovery. He played video and audio clips dealing with the rediscovery that had never been shown or played publicly. Fitzpatrick also dealt with the broader issues of species protection and conservation and noted the future field research that will be done in order to more fully determine that the Ivory-billed Woodpecker has indeed come back from supposed extinction. WWT: The Spoon-billed Sandpiper expedition so far
In 2010 WWT and partners travelled to Russia to help save the last of the spoon-billed sandpipers. Numbers of these birds are thought to number fewer than 100 pairs in the wild. Eggs were collected, hatched then brought back to UK, where we now have the first captive population of these birds. Find out more about the project and donate to the appeal here - www.wwt.org.uk

The Yellow-billed Loon is the largest and most spectacular of the world's five loon species. It breeds around the globe in arctic and sub-arctic tundra lakes and is the northern counterpart to the Common Loon. Watch this rare video shot by The Lab's Gerrit Vyn of a mated pair calling and foraging just after arriving on the partially frozen breeding grounds in Chukotka, Russia.

VerizonWireless Billing Problem
This is a 3 minute edited phone call to VerizonWireless requesting infomation about their rate plan. The sales reps quote "0.002 cents per kb" for data transfer in Canada but customers are then billed @ 0.002 dollars per kb. Other recordings on this subject show that many of the customer service reps claim that both are one and the same. No wonder our country (USA) is rated so poorly on our math skills. Pogo The Keel-billed Toucan
Pogo is a 10 month old hand feed Keel-billed Toucan (Ramphastos sulfuratus). He is a wonderful pet and is quite possible the most beautiful exotic bird in the world. Including its bill, the Keel-billed Toucans ranges in length from around 17 to 22 inches (42-55 cm). Their large and colorful bill averages around 5-6 in (12-15 cm), about one-third of its length. While the bill seems large and cumbersome, it is in fact a spongy, hollow bone covered in keratin, a very light and hard protein. The plumage of the Keel-billed Toucan is mainly black with a yellow neck and chest. Molting occurs once per year. It has blue feet and red feathers at the tip of its tail. The bill is mainly green with a red tip and orange sides.

Robert Cooper: Ivory-billed Woodpecker
Scientists from Cornell's Laboratory of Ornithology and the University of Georgia's Warnell School of Forest Management present a spirited discussion about to the rediscovery of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. Kenneth Rosenberg from Cornell discussed video evidence and sightings while his colleague, Russ Chariff talked about the acoustic research. Ron Rohrbaugh from Cornell then talked about the novel and adaptive survey techniques used in trying to document the rediscovery while Robert Cooper from the University of Georgia ended the session with a broader discussion of conservation within the context of the rediscovery of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet
Tell Congress not to censor the internet NOW! - http://www.fightforthefuture.org/pipa
PROTECT-IP is a bill that has been introduced in the Senate and the House and is moving quickly through Congress. It gives the government and corporations the ability to censor the net, in the name of protecting "creativity". The law would let the government or corporations censor entire sites-- they just have to convince a judge that the site is "dedicated to copyright infringement."
The government has already wrongly shut down sites without any recourse to the site owner. Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost us $47 million tax dollars a year — that's for a fix that won't work, disrupts the internet, stifles innovation, shuts out diverse voices, and censors the internet. This bill is bad for creativity and does not protect your rights.
