Liberty & Community
Does individual liberty threaten community? Some think that it does. As philosophy professor James Otteson explains, some worry that individual liberty undermines moral community, while others worry that it neglects those most vulnerable in a community, such as the poor. But Otteson cautions against thinking this way, for several reasons. As he explains, to take away individual liberty is to take away freedom of association, which interferes not only with autonomy, but with the actual creation of robust and meaningful communities. While freedom of association means that some people will make choices we don't like, and that some communities will decline over time, it also allows for the creation of new and different communities which evolve as their members freely choose to be a part of them. Agents of Misandry Protest Freedom of Speech & Association - Warren Farrell, JohnTheOther
Feminists go beyond merely expressing their own perspectives as protestors and begin actively suppressing the rights of advocates for equality for men and boys to express their own, as well as the freedom of association of non-advocates to attend to hear their message. This occurred recently at the University of Toronto and on the streets of Canada. Interview with Sadig al-Mahdi
Since early 2007, the Club of Madrid, in collaboration with FRIDE, has undertaken a series of dialogue missions to strengthen democracy and promote freedom of association in North Africa and the Middle East. Here, Sadig al-Mahdi, the former Prime Minister of Sudan, outlines the objectives of the project, describes his experience in leading dialogues in Bahrain, Jordan and Morocco during the first year of this project and discusses why freedom of association is a vital component of democratic reform.

OPERATION EGYPT - ANONYMOUS PRESS RELEASE - 26/01/2011
Join Us: www.accessnow.org anonnews.org http DEAR CITIZENS OF THE WORLD, Anonymous can not, and will not stand idly while people are being denied their basic rights and human liberties. Yet, there are still a lot of governments worldwide who fail to even aspire to the standard of freedom that was set by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. These governments believe they have the right and privilege to impose upon their own people an 'official' version of 'reality' which isn't in any way tampered by the truths of everyday life under which its citizens are living. Anonymous believes this is an outright crime which can not go unpunished. The Egyptian people are living under inhumane conditions; being denied their basic rights to freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of association, and the free access to information. By imposing censorship upon its own people and condemning these freedoms, the Egyptian government has revealed itself to be criminal, and has made itself an enemy of Anonymous. To the Egyptian Government: Anonymous challenges all those who are involved in censorship. Anonymous wants you to offer free access to uncensored media in your entire country. When you ignore this message, not only will we attack your government websites, Anonymous will also make sure that the international media sees the horrid reality you impose upon your people. Anonymous will not spare anybody who supports this suppression. It is in the hands of the Egyptian government ...

Judge Perry's Attack on The Freedom of Speech is Nullified by Orange County Residents

New Internet Censorship Bill
RIP FREEDOM OF SPEECH On 11/16, Congress holds hearings on the first American Internet censorship system. This bill can pass. If it does the Internet and free speech will never be the same. Join all of us on the 16th to stop this bill JOIN THE FIGHT: americancensorship.org link to youtube video on topic Protect IP: Worst law in Internet History www.youtube.com SOPA — the Stop Online Piracy Act — has been presented in the House of Representatives as a way to protect movie studios, record labels and others whose music and films are taken and copied online. There was a hearing on it today. Its Senate counterpart is called the Protect IP Act. But others are calling them flawed bills that would lead to Internet censorship. Eric Schmidt, executive chairman of Google, said the bills would overdo it — giving copyright holders and government the power to cut off websites unreasonably. They could be shut down, and search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo could be stopped from linking to them. "The solutions are draconian," Schmidt said Tuesday at the MIT Sloan School of Management. "There's a bill that would require ISPs [Internet service providers] to remove URLs from the Web, which is also known as censorship last time I checked." That said, Schmidt granted that Hollywood studios have a real problem — people are pirating their movies and threatening their business. The Motion Picture Association of America has posted promos on YouTube to plead its case. Rep. Lamar Smith (R ...

FBI Arrests Anonymous
Anonymous Press Release on Arrested: These actions should not go unanswered. On the 19th of July, 2011, The US, UK and dutch governments decided that they finally had enough of their citizens' rights to freedom. In true dystopian style, these governments have trounced upon not only the rights of these individuals, but the basic rights of all individuals: freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and freedom of association. These actions should not go unanswered. Those who were arrested believe in a cause, believe in an idea, believe in all of us. We must respond with a real and concentrated effort to redress these arrests. We, as Anonymous, have a very real responsibility to these people, who were jailed fighting for freedom, so we can continue to fight for theirs. Have you ever joined a sit in, taken part in a strike, marched in the street, or attempted to block access to a building in protest? Anon's actions are the cyber equivalent of these traditional forms of protest, arresting our activists for doing this is a crime against freedom and democracy. But how could our actions be seen and accepted as real protests by governments, when we are shown daily, that they only tolerate demonstrations that serve their own purposes... Anonymous has now been falsely labeled as a "terrorist group"; people are getting arrested for this unjust accusation and it has become a dirty cat and mouse game with incalculable and uncontrollable consequences. All our actions can be directly ...

URGENT! OBAMA Signs Anti-Protest Bill - FREE SPEECH & Protest will get you JAIL TIME!
URGENT! OBAMA Signs Anti-Protest Bill - FREE SPEECH & Protest will get you JAIL TIME! The First Amendment to the Constitution prohibits the government from infringing upon the freedom of speech, the freedom of association and the freedom to petition the government for a redress of grievances. Speech is language and other forms of expression; and association and petition connote physical presence in reasonable proximity to those of like mind and to government officials, so as to make your opinions known to them. The Declaration of Independence recognizes all three freedoms as stemming from our humanity. So, what happens if you can speak freely, but the government officials at whom your speech is aimed refuse to hear you? And what happens if your right to associate and to petition the government is confined to areas where those of like mind and the government are not present? This is coming to a street corner near you. Certain rights, like thought and privacy and travel, can be exercised on their own. You don't need the government to cooperate with you; you just need to be left alone. Other rights, like those intended to influence the political process, require that the government not resist your exercise of them. Remember the old one-liner from Philosophy 101: If a tree falls in a forest and no one is there, does it make any noise? Here's the contemporary version of that: If you can criticize the government, but it refuses to hear you, does your exercise of the freedom of ...

Anonymous Hug Raid April 5th London
Anonymous takes to the streets of London once more, this time to entertain and educate the public and advertise the April 12th "Operation: Reconnect" protests. The Church of Scientology's "Disconnection" policy, whereby members are forced to cut off all channels of communication with any family or friends who might disagree with the organisations policy or practices, violates basic human rights. Article 20 of the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that all persons have a right to freedom of association. We find it abhorrent that this policy is allowed to exist in modern society. We are Anonymous We are Legion Join us on April 12th
