Today, open access (OA) has unstoppable momentum, thanks to the introduction of institutional policies that mandate OA publication at a local, national, and international level.
In collaboration with a coalition of OA advocacy organizations such as the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) and the Open Access Working Group (OAWG), PLOS has played an active role in supporting a number of initiatives that include the National Institutes of Health Public Access policy and Federal Research Public Access Act (FRPAA). We have been invited to present before the UK Parliament, Europeon Union, and House of Commons Select Science and Technology Committee in support of public access and publishing initiatives.
PLOS is a founding member of International Open Access Week, which is a international advocacy campaign that takes place in October every year with over 1500 participants around the world.
PLOS serves on the Board of Directors of the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA) and provides advice to new and society publishers interested in learning about or becoming an OA publisher.
