Discovering China - Confucius, Chinese Cooking and Chinese Dance
Alina Wang, host of "Discovering China" will introduce you to the vast tapestry of traditional Chinese culture. This week you'll be finding out about Confucius, China's most famous philosopher. You'll also be taken to Taipei to hear the judges debrief the chefs who made it through to the semi-finals of NTD's culinary competition. And Margaret trey will talk to Shen Yun dancer William Li about Classical Chinese Dance. It is hard to talk about the values of traditional Chinese society, without mentioning Confucius. Now Ben Hedges takes a look at the story of China's most revered philosopher. After the recent preliminary rounds of NTD's Chinese Culinary Competition in Taipei, Taiwan, the chefs who made it through got a special treat, a forum with the judges about what to expect in the semi-finals and finals, on New York's Times Square. NTD television is a proud media sponsor of Shen Yun Performing Arts and some of Shen Yun's performers have been contestants and winners in NTD's Classical Chinese Dance competitions. Margaret Trey now talks to Shen Yun dancer William Li about his experiences competing in the contests. That's all for this week. But you can check out all our other episodes on NTD's Discovering China playlist, subscribe to our channel and like us on Facebook. Until next time, to use Confucian thinking, remember to stay in the Dao! Thanks for watching.

What does our ring finger mean in Chinese Philosophy?
An interesting concept brought to you by: JodieRecommends.com Put your fingertips together, bend in the middle finger. Seperate only your thumbs, they represent your parents. Put them together again and seperate your little fingers - they represent your children. Together again, pull apart your index finger - they represent your siblings... and finally try and pull apart your ring finger??? You can't right! These fingers show the connection you have with your soul mate. Enjoy this bit of fun and eduation, and share it with those you care about. Be Happy, Cheers, Jodie Thompson

Beijing 2008 Victory Ceremony Music
www.chinadaily.com.cn The classic Chinese tune of Molihua, (Jasmine Flower), played on ancient metal bells and modern jade chimes, has been chosen as the theme score for the Olympic medal ceremonies, composer Tan Dun, who adapted the piece for the Games, said Tuesday. "Molihua is such an iconic piece it is almost a cultural symbol of China, so everybody thought it was a great choice," the 50-year-old Oscar and Grammy award winner, said at a press conference in Beijing to announce the chosen music. A four-part composition, co-written by Tan and Wang Hesheng, a composer with the Army orchestra, will be played before, during and after each of the 302 medal ceremonies. The main melody, which Tan described as "glorious, heartwarming and full of respect", was recorded using the digital recording of a 2450-year-old bell set excavated from a site in Hubei. Zhao Dongming, head of BOCOG's culture and ceremonies department, said: "This piece of music reminds you of the gold medals for the Beijing Olympics, which are made of gold and jade." Tan, whose opera Tea recently made its Chinese debut in Beijing, said he is looking forward to his music being a key for the world to understand Chinese philosophy. "The resonance of the 2400-year-old metal bells and modern jade chimes reflects the aspiration of balance and harmony of our Chinese ancestors," Tan, who also wrote the original score for Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, said. "I hope people remember that China is still the ...

The Center of Traditional Taoist Studies is a non-profit 501(C)(3) religious organization established to promote traditional Taoist studies. The Center offers classes in Taoist Religion, Philosophy, and Chi Quong. Its campus includes one of the largest private Taoist Temples in the world. Founded by Master Alex Anatole, The Center of Traditional Taoist Studies is dedicated to the practical application of Taoism. This need was recognized by Master Anatole as he observed pseudo-teachings and false interpretations of Taoism which included inaccurate descriptions of Taoist Philosophy, superficial Chi Quong and ineffective Martial Arts. MARXIST DIALECTICAL MATERIALISM! Philosophy of Chinese Communists
99-year-old Benedictine Priest-Monk, the Rev. Fr. Eleutherius Winance (a Belgian) explains dialectical materialsim. Father Eleutherius lived in a Benedictine monastery in Szechwan, China, during the Communist takeover, which happened in 1949. Because he refused to renounce the authority of the Pope and join China's national church (which would later become the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association), Father Winance was arrested by the Chinese Communists, jailed then expelled (with a police escort) from China. A monk for more than 82 years, Father Eleutherius now lives in a religious community in the United States. BRIEF HISTORY By Theresa Marie Moreau Religious and personal freedom for the people of China began to disintegrate back in 1949 (after the end of the three-year Chinese Nationalist-CommunistCivil War that followed in the wake of World War II), when the Communists (headed by Tse-Tung Mao) defeated the Kuomintang -- the Chinese Nationalist Party (headed by Kai-Shek Chiang) that fled to Taiwan (historically known as Formosa ). On October 1, 1949, the Chairman stood in Tiananmen Square and announced the founding of the People's Republic of China -- with himself the head of the beast. In an attempt to break with the Holy See, the xenophobic Communists established, in 1949, the Three-Self Reform Movement, so-called for its aim to be Self-governing, Self-supporting and Self-propagating. Relations between the Vatican and China first froze then officially broke in 1951 ...
