Through Koszalin
www.facebook.com www.ceepackaging.com twitter @ceepackaging www.facebook.com This is part of a journey I made on Thursday 30 June 2011 from Rogowo near Kołobrzeg to Lębork in northern Poland. Starting off with really wonderful weather, I finished off in the rain and after that I could not be bothered to film the rest of the journey to Gdynia. Koszalin is first mentioned in 1108 in the Chronicle of Greater Poland (Kronika Wielkopolska) describing that duke Boleslaw Krzywousty has captured and subjugated multiple Pomeranian cities including Kołobrzeg, Kamień, Wolin and Koszalin. New, mostly German, settlers from outside of Pomerania were invited to settle the territory from the twelfth century onwards. On 23 May 1266, Kammin bishop Hermann von Gleichen granted a charter to the village Cussalin, giving it Lübeck law, local government, autonomy and multiple privileges; it became known in German as Cöslin. When in 1276 the bishops became the sovereign in neighboring Kołobrzeg, they moved their residence there, while the administration of the diocese was done from Koszalin. Cöslin participated in the Baltic Sea trade as a member of the Hanseatic League from 1353, which led to several conflicts with the competing seaports of Kolberg (Kołobrzeg) and Rügenwalde (Darłowo). From 1356 until 1417/1422, the city was part of the Duchy of Pomerania-Wolgast. In 1534 during the Protestant Reformation, Cöslin became Lutheran under the influence of Johannes Bugenhagen. drawing Mari Liis: www.bernardstore.com At the beginning of the 13th century, Lembitu of Lehola, a chieftain of Sakala sought to unify the Estonian people and thwart Danish and Germanic conquest during the Livonian Crusade. He managed to assemble an army of 6000 Estonian men from different counties, but he was killed during the Battle of St. Matthew's Day in September 1217.[19] In 1228, in the aftermath of the Livonian Crusade, to the 1560s, Estonia became part of Terra Mariana, established on 2 February 1207[20] as a principality of the Holy Roman Empire[21] and proclaimed by pope Innocent III in 1215 as a subject to the Holy See.[22] The southern parts of the country were conquered by Livonian Brothers of the Sword who joined the Teutonic Order in 1237 and became its branch known as Livonian Order. In the Northern parts of the country was formed Duchy of Estonia[23] as a direct dominion of the King of Denmark from 1219 until 1346 when it was sold to the Teutonic order and became part of the Ordenstaat.[24] In 1343, the people of northern Estonia and Saaremaa rebelled against the German rule in the St. George's Night Uprising, which was put down by 1345. Reval (known as Tallinn since 1918) gained Lübeck Rights in 1248 and joined an alliance of trading guilds called the Hanseatic League at the end of the 13th century. After the Teutonic Order fell into decline following its defeat in the Battle of Grunwald in 1410, and the defeat of the Livonian Order in the Battle of ...

Ostatnia Niedziela - Zygmunt Piotrowski, 1935
To ostatnia niedziela (It's The Last Sunday) (Petersburski /Friedwald) - Zygmunt Piotrowski z ork. Syrena-Rekord, Melodja-Electro 1935 Melodja-Electro was a dime store version (it cost only 1,5 zl) of Syrena-Electro. Many artists disagreed to appear on this label (Adam Aston, Mieczysław Fogg, Hanka Ordonówna), while others were mentioned merely as "refrain singers" or under a nick (eg Tadeusz Faliszewski's label name for Melodja- Electro was Jan Pobóg). This most famous tango of prewar Poland (ex-aequo with Petersburski's "Oh Donna Clara") is performed here by Zygmunt Piotrowski, who was in years 1930-32 a member of Chór Wiehlera revellers' group, to join later Chór Juranda as their first tenor. He also recorded for Cristal-Electro in a duett with R. Marrot (Duet "Corda" see www.youtube.com ). That modest and little known singer, who most of his life worked as a streetcar operator, died of tuberculosis during the German occupation of Warsaw. I decided to upload this fairly wornout side firstly, because this "suicide-tango" had become a legend and each prewar Polish version of it has a special value (see also Mieczysław Fogg's version at www.youtube.com ) secondly: that scratchy, dim tone of the old tango matched perfectly these ancient postcards of towns and villages of the "Polish Atlantis" - the lost forever universe of Polskie Kresy Wschodnie (Polish East Borderlands)... NOTE: Polish Kresy (Polish Eastern Borderlands) - the term used to describe Polish eastern ...

Sága krásy - Lemkos - Rusíni. Wedding song. Eastern Slovakia. Slovak folklore.
Sings Maria Macoskova. Archival record. Lemkos - one of several quantitatively and territorially small nationalities who also traditionally call themselves Rusyns (Ukrainian: Руснаки, Lemko: Руснакы, Rusnaky; sing. Руснак, Rusnak),are one of the four major groups inhabiting the Eastern Carpathian Mountains. Their language has been variously described as a Lemko language in its own right (literary Lemko language is one of the four literary norms of the Carpatho-Rusyn language), a dialect of the Rusyn language (a group of dialects which is, itself, sometimes described as a distinct dialect of the Ukrainian or Slovak dialect group). In any case, the Lemko tongue and the Ukrainian language are akin but not always mutually intelligible (ref: Best and Moklak)The Lemkos' homeland is commonly referred to as Lemkivshchyna (Ukrainian: Лeмкiвщина, Lemko: Lemkovyna (Лeмкoвина), Polish: Łemkowszczyzna). Up until 1945, this included the area from the Poprad River in the east to the valley of Oslawa River in the west, areas situated primarily in present-day Poland, in the Lesser Poland and Subcarpathian Voivodeships. This part of the Carpathian mountains is mostly deforested, which allowed for an agrarian economy, alongside such traditional occupations as ox grazing and sheep herding. This area was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until its dissolution in 1918, at which point the Lemko-Rusyn Republic (Ruska Lemkivska) declared its independence. Independence did not last long however ...

Beautiful Poland
Poland is a country in Central Europe bordered by Germany to the west; the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the south; Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania to the east; and the Baltic Sea and Kaliningrad Oblast, a Russian exclave, to the north. The total area of Poland is 312679 square kilometres, making it the 69th largest country in the world and the 9th largest in Europe. Poland has a population of over 38 million people, which makes it the 34th most populous country in the world and the sixth most populous member of the European Union, being its most populous post-communist member. Poland is a unitary state made up of sixteen voivodeships. Poland is a member of the European Union, NATO, the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). On 1 July 2011, Poland replaced Hungary as the holder of the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The establishment of a Polish state is often identified with the adoption of Christianity by its ruler Mieszko I in 966, over the territory similar to that of present-day Poland. The Kingdom of Poland was formed in 1025, and in 1569 it cemented a long association with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania by signing the Union of Lublin, forming the Polish--Lithuanian Commonwealth. The Commonwealth ceased to exist in 1795 as the Polish lands were partitioned among the Kingdom of Prussia, the Russian Empire, and Austria. Poland regained its independence as the Second ...

Jeopardy! International Challenge Game 2 [Antoine v. Ishmael v. Bunnie] pt. 4 of 4
Bunnie Rabbot, leading within 10000 rings from Ishmael and Antoine, who are tied at 86000, have to face the music with Final Jeopardy! with a very tough category I have concocted: Voivodeships. When I mean tough, look at the clue, and before you continue on, pause it and find out which respond will be. Anyway, this will all determine who will go into the Semifinals to face Sonic the Hedgehog. You'll be uber surprised at the results. Enjoy, and open auditions will be coming up for Game 3.

DOLL RECONSTRUCTION trailer
Video art project supported by the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, realized in the period from August to December 2011.
The video will not try to recreate the artist’s biography, however, it will contain many references to the time spent by Hans Bellmer in Katowice (from his date of birth 1902 until his departure in 1922). The aim of this video is to persuade the vievers into a deeper interest in the work of the artist and his association with Katowice, as well as to document the contemporary image of Katowice and its inhabitants.
