South Carolina
South Carolina 
i/ˌsaʊθ kærəˈlaɪnə/ is a state in the southeastern region of the United States. The state is bordered to the north by North Carolina, to the south and west by Georgia across the Savannah River, and to the east by the Atlantic Ocean.
The Province of South Carolina became a slave society after rice and indigo became established as commodity crops. From 1708, a majority of the population were slaves, many born in Africa.
South Carolina was the first state to ratify the Articles of Confederation and the eighth state to ratify the U.S. Constitution on May 23, 1788. South Carolina became the first state to vote to secede from the Union on December 20, 1860. After the American Civil War, it was readmitted into the United States on June 25, 1868.
South Carolina is the 40th most extensive and the 23rd most populous U.S. state. Its GDP as of 2013 was $183.6 billion, with an annual growth rate of 3.13%. South Carolina comprises 46 counties. The capital and largest city is Columbia with a 2013 population of 133,358; the Greenville-Anderson-Mauldin metropolitan area had a 2013 population of 850,965.

BI-LO 200
The BI-LO 200 was a former NASCAR Busch Series event held from 1983–2004, and was always run as an accompanying race to the Southern 500. When the Southern 500 was dropped from the schedule and Darlington's Busch Series schedule was reduced to one race, this race was removed in favor of the O'Reilly Auto Parts Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway because of the Ferko lawsuit.
Mark Martin led all drivers in race wins with five. Only two other drivers, Harry Gant and Jeff Burton, won multiple BI-LO 200s, with both drivers winning three times.

Indien (1778)
Indien (1778), often L'Indien, was a frigate built for the U.S. Commissioners in France — Benjamin Franklin, Silas Deane, and Arthur Lee — to a design by the French naval architect Jacques Boux. She was laid down early in 1777 by a private shipyard in Amsterdam and launched in February 1778. Apparently she was built with the scantlings and lines of a small 74-gun Third Rate ship of the line but was a frigate in construction. In 1780 the Duke of Luxembourg chartered her to the navy of South Carolina and she sailed as South Carolina.
Her armament consisted of 28 Swedish long 36-pounder guns on her main deck, and 12 long 12-pounders on her forecastle and her quarterdeck. Perhaps her greatest significance is that the marine architect Joshua Humphreys studied her sleek hull and used her lines in designing the United States Navy's first frigates, especially USS Constitution and USS Constellation.
Construction history
Late in the year John Paul Jones sailed for France, hoping to assume command of Indien; but, before his arrival, financial difficulties and opposition from the still-neutral Dutch government, under pressure from Great Britain, had forced the Commissioners to sell the new frigate to Louis XVI, King of France.

Edisto Island, South Carolina
Edisto Island is one of South Carolina's Sea Islands, the larger part of which lies in Charleston County, with its southern tip in Colleton County. The town of Edisto Beach is in Colleton County, while the Charleston County part of the island is unincorporated.
The island, town, and Edisto River are named after the historic Edistow people, a Native American sub-tribe of the Cusabo Indians, who inhabited the island as well as nearby mainland areas.
History
Indigenous peoples often had fishing camps on the islands, using them seasonally. The historic Edisto people are known to have occupied the island as well as mainland areas and traded with the upcountry Catawba. The sub-tribe became extinct during the colonial period. The Wassamassaw Tribe of Varnertown Indians is a group of descendants of various tribes who intermarried and who have occupied a settlement between Summerville and Moncks Corner in Berkeley County, South Carolina. In 2005 they gained state recognition as an Indian group, one of six tribes to do so.

South Carolina wine
South Carolina wine refers to wine made from grapes grown in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The climate of South Carolina is challenging for the production of wine grapes. Hot and humid summers require viticulturalists to adapt their canopy management to minimize direct sunlight on the grapes, which are often harvested early in the summer. There are six wineries in South Carolina and no designated American Viticultural Areas.

Is South Carolina ALL crummy? Maybe not. So the last time we talked about South Carolina, we learned a whole lot about this state. Like, we learned that the best places you can live in this state are going to be in the Greenville-Clemson metro area, up here in the Charlotte metro area in places like Rock Hill, and in the Charleston area, although living in Charleston is basically for wealthy people. You can’t afford it. There are also areas all along the coast south of Charleston to the Georgia border where rich golfers live. So the last time we talked about South Carolina, we learned a whole lot about this state. Like, we learned that the be...
Is South Carolina ALL crummy? Maybe not.
So the last time we talked about South Carolina, we learned a whole lot about this state. Like, we learned that the best places you can live in this state are going to be in the Greenville-Clemson metro area, up here in the Charlotte metro area in places like Rock Hill, and in the Charleston area, although living in Charleston is basically for wealthy people. You can’t afford it. There are also areas all along the coast south of Charleston to the Georgia border where rich golfers live.
We also learned the worst areas in South Carolina are in the smaller communities in the northeastern part of the state - places like Florence, Darlington, and sadly Myrtle Beach, which has a lot of crime and poverty.
And that’s a theme that resonated with South Carolina in the first video - poverty and crime. However, South Carolina is trying to make a comeback. It’s the 10th fastest growing state in the country right now, as lots of wealthy retirees are coming here in droves.
But there’s a lot more to South Carolina than that. We didn’t talk about some South Carolina history, interesting facts and the issues that people in South Carolina face today.
So that’s what we’re gonna do in this video. Kind of pick up where we left off in a more lighthearted way. We’re going to look at all of that stuff and even meet some people who LIVE in South Carolina who are gonna tell us what it's like in their state and where you could move if you relocate here. By the summer of 1778, Stockbridge warriors had served in every major campaign in the eastern theatre of the “American Revolution”, from “Bunker Hill” to “Monmouth”. At the latter battle, fought just ten days after the British evacuated Philadelphia, in a move to consolidate their forces in North America, approximately twenty Stockbridge warriors fought in several New England regiments, shoulder to shoulder with their neighbours, in what was the largest, longest land battle of the entire war. The scene of the action between the Queen's Rangers and the Stockbridge warriors was Van Cortlandt Manor, a large estate, situated between Broadway and the Bronx River. On August 31st, Simcoe implemented a plan for revenge, for an earlier embarrassment. Moving forward from the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx in the early morning, with five hundred men from several units, Simcoe hoped to entice the Americans forward ..down Mile Square Road from their positions. At the same time, he would divide his own forces in an effort to envelop and trap the Americans. While the Stockbridge warriors were engaged with the main force of enemy troops, the American light infantry were positioned to the north and west of Mile Square Road. As the fighting started and the British cavalry caught the warriors off guard from their rear flank, while the American infantry “took off”. One account of the battle states, that there were sixty light infantry and forty-eight Stockbridge warriors. The American forces were outnumbered, nearly five to one *but, the infantry had disappeared). The British horse soldiers called out for the “fugitives” to surrender, ”promising” them their lives. According to one account, three warriors ventured out and gave themselves up, whereupon, the British killed them.

Dans cette vidéo, nous nous intéresserons aux ambitions et aux stratégies de la couronne de France dans le conflit qui l’a opposé à l’Angleterre entre 1778 et 1783. Nous verrons comment la révolution américaine a servi de prétexte pour (ré)affirmer la place de la Marine française sur les mers et comment Louis XVI, trop souvent décrié pour son caractère indécis, a mené l’une des plus ambitieuses campagnes du Royaume de France depuis Versailles.

La vidéo fait apparaître le "piège" de Yorktown comme un plan préparé et concocté par Rochambeau lui-même. Dans les faits, la stratégie franco-américaine a été le fruit de longues discussions entre toutes les parties prenantes de la chaîne de commandement.
Les images du siège de Gibraltar et du bombardement de Yorktown sont issues de la série Total War Napoléon. Les uniformes ne sont donc pas conformes à la période décrite.

Après la fin des hostilités, les Anglais vont considérablement renforcer leur capacité de projection sur les mers. Cette réaction, conjuguée au "suicide” de la marine française en 1793, lorsque les officiers refusent de se battre pour la République, va mettre la France hors-jeu sur les mers. Sur ce sujet, je recommande l’excellent livre (en anglais) de A.T Mahan L’influence du “Sea Power” sur la Révolution Française et l’Empire”.

Is South Carolina ALL crummy? Maybe not.
So the last time we talked about South Carolina, we learned a whole lot about this state. Like, we learned that the best places you can live in this state are going to be in the Greenville-Clemson metro area, up here in the Charlotte metro area in places like Rock Hill, and in the Charleston area, although living in Charleston is basically for wealthy people. You can’t afford it. There are also areas all along the coast south of Charleston to the Georgia border where rich golfers live.
We also learned the worst areas in South Carolina are in the smaller communities in the northeastern part of the state - places like Florence, Darlington, and sadly Myrtle Beach, which has a lot of crime and poverty.
And that’s a theme that resonated with South Carolina in the first video - poverty and crime. However, South Carolina is trying to make a comeback. It’s the 10th fastest growing state in the country right now, as lots of wealthy retirees are coming here in droves.
But there’s a lot more to South Carolina than that. We didn’t talk about some South Carolina history, interesting facts and the issues that people in South Carolina face today.
So that’s what we’re gonna do in this video. Kind of pick up where we left off in a more lighthearted way. We’re going to look at all of that stuff and even meet some people who LIVE in South Carolina who are gonna tell us what it's like in their state and where you could move if you relocate here. South Carolina
South Carolina i/ˌsaʊθ kærəˈlaɪnə/ is a state in the southeastern region of the United States. The state is bordered to the north by North Carolina, to the south and west by Georgia across the Savannah River, and to the east by the Atlantic Ocean.
The Province of South Carolina became a slave society after rice and indigo became established as commodity crops. From 1708, a majority of the population were slaves, many born in Africa.
South Carolina was the first state to ratify the Articles of Confederation and the eighth state to ratify the U.S. Constitution on May 23, 1788. South Carolina became the first state to vote to secede from the Union on December 20, 1860. After the American Civil War, it was readmitted into the United States on June 25, 1868.
South Carolina is the 40th most extensive and the 23rd most populous U.S. state. Its GDP as of 2013 was $183.6 billion, with an annual growth rate of 3.13%. South Carolina comprises 46 counties. The capital and largest city is Columbia with a 2013 population of 133,358; the Greenville-Anderson-Mauldin metropolitan area had a 2013 population of 850,965.

By the summer of 1778, Stockbridge warriors had served in every major campaign in the eastern theatre of the “American Revolution”, from “Bunker Hill” to “Monmouth”. At the latter battle, fought just ten days after the British evacuated Philadelphia, in a move to consolidate their forces in North America, approximately twenty Stockbridge warriors fought in several New England regiments, shoulder to shoulder with their neighbours, in what was the largest, longest land battle of the entire war. The scene of the action between the Queen's Rangers and the Stockbridge warriors was Van Cortlandt Manor, a large estate, situated between Broadway and the Bronx River. On August 31st, Simcoe implemented a plan for revenge, for an earlier embarrassment. Moving forward from the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx in the early morning, with five hundred men from several units, Simcoe hoped to entice the Americans forward ..down Mile Square Road from their positions. At the same time, he would divide his own forces in an effort to envelop and trap the Americans. While the Stockbridge warriors were engaged with the main force of enemy troops, the American light infantry were positioned to the north and west of Mile Square Road. As the fighting started and the British cavalry caught the warriors off guard from their rear flank, while the American infantry “took off”. One account of the battle states, that there were sixty light infantry and forty-eight Stockbridge warriors. The American forces were outnumbered, nearly five to one *but, the infantry had disappeared). The British horse soldiers called out for the “fugitives” to surrender, ”promising” them their lives. According to one account, three warriors ventured out and gave themselves up, whereupon, the British killed them.

En général, le sursaut de la marine royale sous Louis XVI a un impact très important sur la politique intérieure britannique. Après la fin des hostilités, les Anglais vont considérablement renforcer leur capacité de projection sur les mers. Cette réaction, conjuguée au "suicide” de la marine française en 1793, lorsque les officiers refusent de se battre pour la République, va mettre la France hors-jeu sur les mers.
