Bangalore
Bangalore /ˈbæŋɡəlɔər/, also rendered Bengaluru,[needs IPA] is the capital of the Indian state of Karnataka. Bangalore is nicknamed the Garden City for its gardens and parks and was once called a pensioner's paradise. Located on the Deccan Plateau in the south-eastern part of Karnataka, Bangalore is India's third most populous city and fifth-most populous urban agglomeration. Bangalore is well known as a hub for India's information technology sector. It is among the top 10 preferred entrepreneurial locations in the world.
A succession of South Indian dynasties ruled the region of Bangalore until in 1537 AD Kempe Gowda—a feudatory ruler under the Vijayanagara Empire—established a mud fort considered to be the foundation of modern Bangalore. Following transitory occupation by Maratha and Mughal, the city remained under the Mysore kingdom. Bangalore continued to be a cantonment of the British and a major city of the Princely State of Mysore which existed as a nominally sovereign entity of the British Raj. Following the independence of India in 1947, Bangalore became the capital of Mysore state, and later Karnataka.

Chennai

The British defended several attacks from the French colonial forces, and from the kingdom of Mysore, on Chennai's way to become a major naval port and presidency city by late eighteenth century. Following the independence of India, Chennai became the capital of Tamil Nadu and a hotbed of regional politics that tended to bank on Dravidian identity of the populace. Chennai had become a bustling metropolis with beautiful classical and colonial European styled buildings, lining the city’s thoroughfares.

During the 16th century, northern German regions became the centre of the Protestant Reformation while southern and western parts remained dominated by Roman Catholic denominations, with the two factions clashing in the Thirty Years' War, marking the beginning of the Catholic–Protestant divide that has characterized German society ever since. Occupied during the Napoleonic Wars, the rise of Pan-Germanism inside the German Confederation resulted in the unification of most of the German states into the German Empire in 1871 which was Prussian dominated. Guangdong is a province on the South China Sea coast of the People's Republic of China. The province was previously often written with the alternative English name Kwangtung Province. Oulu (pronounced [ˈoulu] ( listen), Swedish: Uleåborg [ˈʉːleɔˌbɔrj]) is a city and municipality of 143,988 inhabitants (31 January 2012) in the region of Northern Ostrobothnia, in Finland. It is the most populous city in Northern Finland and the sixth most populous city in the country. It is one of the northernmost larger cities in the world.
Oulu was founded on April 8, 1605, by King Charles IX of Sweden opposite to the fort built on the island of Linnansaari. This took place after favourable peace settlements with the Russians, which removed the threat of attack via the main east-west waterway, the river Oulu. The surrounding areas were populated much earlier. Oulu is situated by the Gulf of Bothnia, at the mouth of river Oulujoki, which is an ancient trading site. One possible source for the name Oulu is a word in the Sami language meaning 'flood water', but there are other suggestions. Oulu was the capital of the Province of Oulu from 1776 to 2009.
In 1822, a major fire destroyed much of the city. The architect Carl Ludvig Engel, chiefly known for the neoclassical (empire style) buildings around Helsinki Senate Square, was enlisted to provide the plan for the rebuilding of the city. With minor changes, this plan remains the basis for the layout of Oulu's town center. The Oulu Cathedral was built in 1832 to his designs, with the spire being finished in 1844.

Siemens Arena
Siemens Arena, located in Šeškinė elderate of Vilnius, is the second largest arena in Lithuania. It generally hosts basketball games as well as concerts. The arena opened on October 30, 2004. The basketball club BC Lietuvos Rytas, which currently competes in the domestic LKL, the regional BBL, and in continental competitions (the Euroleague or Eurocup, depending on its current performance), uses the facility for all of its European home fixtures. Siemens Arena also hosts Rytas' home fixtures of the Lithuanian "national derby" against its arch rival BC Žalgiris in both the LKL and BBL. Siemensstadt
Siemensstadt is a locality (Ortsteil) of Berlin in the district (Bezirk) of Spandau.
The locality emerged when the company Siemens & Halske (established in 1847 by Werner von Siemens and Johann Georg Halske, the predecessor of today's Siemens AG) bought land in the area, in order to expand production, and started to build new factories in 1899. Soon also residential buildings were erected. The locality was incorporated into Berlin on 1 October 1920 by the Greater Berlin Act.
Siemensstadt is situated in the eastern side of Spandau district. It borders with Spandau (locality), Haselhorst, Tegel (in Reinickendorf), Charlottenburg-Nord and Westend (both in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf). The Großsiedlung Siemensstadt is situated close to Siemensstadt but in Charlottenburg-Nord.
Siemensstadt is served by the Berliner U-Bahn line U7 at the stations of Paulsternstrasse, Rohrdamm and Siemensdamm.

Dr. Ing. e.h. Bernhard Plettner (December 2, 1914 in Oberlahnstein – November 2, 1997 in Erlangen) was a German engineer and manager. From 1971 to 1981 he was CEO of Siemens AG.
Plettner studied electrical engineering in Darmstadt. After an internship in 1937 he returned to Siemens-Schuckertwerke in Berlin in 1940. After World War II Plettner was especially engaged in restoring the export relations of the firm. Plettner became member of the board of directors of Siemens-Schuckertwerke in 1959 and CEO of this company in 1962. Carl Wilhelm Siemens (en: Charles William Siemens, known as Sir William Siemens) (4 April 1823 – 19 November 1883) was a German-born engineer who for most of his life worked in Britain and later became a British subject.
Siemens was born in the village of Lenthe, today part of Gehrden, near Hanover where his father, Christian Ferdinand Siemens (July 31, 1787-January 16, 1840), a tenant farmer, farmed an estate belonging to the Crown. His mother was Eleonore Deichmann (1792-July 8, 1839), and William, or Carl Wilhelm, was the fourth son of a family of fourteen children. Of his siblings, Ernst Werner Siemens, the fourth child, became a famous electrician and was associated with William in many of his inventions. He is also a brother of Carl Heinrich von Siemens and a cousin of Alexander Siemens.
On July 23, 1859, Siemens was married at St. James's, Paddington, to Anne Gordon, the youngest daughter of Mr. Joseph Gordon, Writer to the Signet, Edinburgh, and brother to Mr. Lewis Gordon, Professor of Engineering in the University of Glasgow and became a naturalised British subject. He used to say that on March 19 of that year he took oath and allegiance to two ladies in one day — to the Queen and his betrothed. He was knighted – becoming Sir William – a few months before his death. He died on the evening of Monday November 19, 1883, at nine o'clock and was buried on Monday November 26, in Kensal Green Cemetery.

Ernst Albrecht von Siemens (9 April 1903 in Kingston upon Thames - 31 December 1990 in Starnberg), the son of Carl Friedrich von Siemens, was a German industrialist and one of the successors of his family's company.
He studied physics at Technical University of Munich. He joined Siemens in 1929, beginning his career at the Werner Plant for Telecommunications in Berlin. After being a deputy member of the Managing Board of Siemens & Halske for five years, he became a full member in 1948 and was appointed chairman in 1949. In 1945 he became a deputy member of the Managing Board of Siemens-Schuckertwerke, and a full member in 1948. From 1956 to 1966, he served as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of both companies, and from 1966 to 1971 as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Siemens AG. After stepping down as chairman, he remained an honorary member of the Supervisory Board until 1978. Ernst von Siemens successfully faced the task of rebuilding the company after World War II. It was under his leadership that Siemens & Halske AG, Siemens-Schuckertwerke AG and Siemens-Reiniger-Werke AG were merged in 1966, forming the company we know today as Siemens AG.

Heinrich von Pierer
Heinrich von Pierer (exactly Heinrich Karl Friedrich Eduard Pierer von Esch ) (born 26 January 1941 in Erlangen) is a German manager. From 1992 to 2005, he was CEO of Siemens AG. Subsequently, he was chairman of the supervisory board from which he resigned on 25 April 2007.
Pierer studied law and economics in Erlangen and joined Siemens in 1969. From 1977, he worked for the company’s power generation subsidiary Kraftwerk Union AG (KWU). In 1989, he became President of KWU and a member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG. In 1992, Pierer succeeded Karlheinz Kaske as CEO and held this post until January 2005, when Klaus Kleinfeld took over.
He is member of several other supervisory boards (e.g., Bayer and Volkswagen). Pierer is President of the German industry's Asia–Pacific–Committee which he helped to found in 1993. He also functioned as an advisor to the German governments under Gerhard Schröder and Angela Merkel.
In April 2004, Pierer became one of the few business leaders to speak at a Security Council meeting, where he reported on his recent meeting with Hamid Karzai and on the infrastructure work Siemens was doing in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Hermann von Siemens (August 9, 1885 – October 13, 1986) was a German industrialist who became head of the German electrical and electronics company Siemens AG in 1941 and served until 1956. He was the son of Arnold von Siemens and wife Ellen von Helmholtz and paternal grandson of Ernst Werner von Siemens and first wife Mathilde Duman. He died at the age of 101. Kaske studied Physics at RWTH Aachen and joined Siemens in 1950, when he became an engineer in the Siemens factory at Karlsruhe. Since 1990 Kallasvuo has been a member of the Group Executive Board of Nokia.
In 1992, Kallasvuo was named Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In 1997-1998 he served as Corporate Executive Vice President, Nokia United States, being responsible for all Nokia's business operations in the US. He returned to the position of Chief Financial Officer at the beginning of 1999, the position he had held prior to moving to the United States. From 2004–2005 Kallasvuo was Executive Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Phones. On October 1, 2005 he was named President and COO. From June 1, 2006, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Nokia Corporation. He was succeeded by Stephen Elop on September 21, 2010.

Peter Löscher
Peter Löscher (born September 17, 1957 in Villach, Austria) is an Austrian manager and former President, Global Human Health at global pharmaceutical company Merck & Co. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Siemens AG on May 20, 2007 as the successor of Klaus Kleinfeld, and was selected to take on the new position on July 1, 2007. He was the first top executive in the 160 year history of Siemens to be hired from outside the company.
Peter Löscher graduated from Gymnasium Villach/Austria in 1978 and got a master's degree at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration. Later he attended an MBA program at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Harvard University. In 2007 he received the Honorary Degree of "Doctor of Engineering" from Michigan State University.
From 1988 until 2000 he worked for the German pharmaceutical company Hoechst in Spain, Japan, Great Britain and the United States. After Hoechst merged with Rhone-Poulenc he stayed at Aventis until 2002. He then joined Amersham, which was taken over by General Electric. In 2006 he became a member of the executive board of the US pharmaceutical company Merck.

Ernst Werner Siemens, von Siemens since 1888, (13 December 1816 – 6 December 1892) was a German inventor and industrialist. Siemens' name has been adopted as the SI unit of electrical conductance, the siemens. He was also the founder of the electrical and telecommunications company Siemens.
Werner Siemens was born in Lenthe, today part of Gehrden, near Hannover, in the Kingdom of Hanover in the German Confederation, the fourth child (of fourteen) of a tenant farmer. He is a brother of Carl Heinrich von Siemens and Carl Wilhelm Siemens, sons of Christian Ferdinand Siemens (31 July 1787 - 16 January 1840) and wife Eleonore Deichmann (1792 - 8 July 1839).
Siemens left school without finishing his education, but joined the army to undertake training in engineering. Siemens was thought of as a good soldier, receiving various medals. Upon returning home from war, he put his mind to other uses. He is known world-wide for his advances in various technologies, and chose to work on perfecting technologies that had already been established. In 1843 he sold the rights to his first invention to Elkington of Birmingham. Siemens invented a telegraph that used a needle to point to the right letter, instead of using Morse code. Based on this invention, he founded the company Telegraphen-Bauanstalt von Siemens & Halske on 1 October 1847, with the company taking occupation of its workshop on 12 October.

The company was created as the result of a joint venture between Siemens Communications division (minus its Enterprise business unit) and Nokia's Network Business Group. The formation of the company was publicly announced on 19 June 2006.[4] Nokia Siemens Networks was officially launched at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona in February 2007.[5] Nokia Siemens Networks then began full operations on 1 April 2007[6] and has its headquarters in Espoo, Greater Helsinki, Finland. In January 2008 Nokia Siemens Networks acquired Israeli company Atrica, a company that builds carrier-class Ethernet transport systems for metro networks. The official release did not disclose terms, however they are thought to be in the region of $100 million.[7][8] In February 2008 Nokia Siemens Networks acquired Apertio, Bristol UK-based, a mobile network customer management tools provider for €140 million. With this acquisition Nokia Siemens Networks gained customers in the subscriber management area including Orange, T-Mobile, O2, Vodafone and Hutchison 3G.[9][10][11] On July 19, 2010, Nokia Siemens Networks announced it would acquire the wireless-network equipment division of Motorola.[12] The acquisitions was completed on April 29, 2011 for US $975 million in cash. As part of the transaction pproximately 6,900 employees transferred to Nokia Siemens Networks.
On November 23, 2011, Nokia Siemens announced that it planned to eliminate 17,000 jobs by the end of 2013 to enable Nokia Siemens to refocus on mobile broadband equipment, the fastest-growing segment of the market. The reductions will slash the company’s work force by 23 percent from its current level of 74,000. The cuts follow Nokia Siemens’s $1.2 billion purchase of Motorola’s mobile network equipment business in July 2010, which added staff; and would help the company trim annual operating expenses by $1.35 billion by the end of 2013.[13][14]

Nokia Siemens Networks operates in more than 150 countries worldwide and has about 73,000 employees including the joinees from Motorola Net.[15] Most of those employees work in one of the six central hubs around the world, including: Espoo in Finland, Munich in Germany, Wrocław in Poland, Chennai and Bangalore in India, Guangdong in China and Lisbon in Portugal. Its major manufacturing sites are in Chennai in India, China, Oulu in Finland,[citation needed] and in Berlin, Germany.[16]
About a quarter of the world's population are connected everyday using NSN infrastructure.[15] The customer base of Nokia Siemens Networks includes 1,400 customers in over 150 countries (including more than 600 operator customers). Combined 2010 revenues exceed € 12.7 billion, making the company one of the largest telecommunication equipment makers in the world.[17]
Rajeev Suri is the current Chief Executive Officer of Nokia Siemens Networks. In this position he succeeds Simon Beresford-Wylie, who stepped down (October 1, 2009) after leading the company’s integration.[18] Nokia Siemens Networks' Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is Marco Schröter. The Chairman of the board of directors is now Jesper Ovesen, previous chairman was Nokia's former CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, vice chairman is Rudi Lamprecht (Executive Advisor to the CEO of Siemens AG).[19], [20]. In March 2012, Samih Elhage was appointed as Chief Operating Officer, reporting to Rajeev Suri.[21]

Iran monitoring controversy[link]
In 2008 Nokia Siemens Networks provided Iran's monopoly telecom company TCI with technology that allowed it to monitor phone calls of its customers.[23]
News reports claimed that the company had provided internet censorship capabilities to the Iranian government.[24] In June 2009 Nokia Siemens Networks stated that whilst they had provided lawful interception capable equipment or services to Iran, capable of monitoring local voice calls, they had not provided equipment or services that provided deep packet inspection capabilities, speech recognition, internet or network monitoring or web censorship capabilities.[25]
In July 2009, Iranians sympathetic to the 2009–2010 Iranian election protests began to boycott Nokia products in Iran.[26]
Former Nokia executive Chip Pitts has said that issues are raised from the supply of a voice monitoring capability to Iran by Nokia Siemens Networks.[when?][citation needed] In September 2010 Nokia-Siemens stated that it halted work relating to call monitoring in Iran in 2009, having divested its call monitoring business in the same year. It also had limited its activities in Iran and stated that it was ".. aware of credible reports that the Iranian authorities use communications technology to suppress political activity in a way that is inconsistent with that government’s human rights obligations".[27]

China Mobile Limited (simplified Chinese: 中国移动通信; traditional Chinese: 中國移動通信; pinyin: Zhōngguó Yídòng Tōngxìn) is a Chinese state-owned[5] telecommunication company that provides mobile voice and multimedia services[6] through its nationwide mobile telecommunications network.[2] The company is the largest mobile telecommunications company by market capitalization.[7] It is listed on both the NYSE and the Hong Kong stock exchange.[2]
As of January 2012, China Mobile is the world's largest mobile phone operator with about 655 million subscribers.[8]

A state-owned enterprise directly controlled by the government of the People's Republic of China[5] and also a public company that is listed on the NYSE and the Hong Kong stock exchanges,[2] China Mobile has dominated Chinese mobile services since its inception. As of 2010 China Mobile controls the vast majority of its domestic mobile services market with a 70% market share.[9] China Unicom and China Telecom have 20% and 10% shares, respectively.[9]
Incorporated in 1997 as China Telecom (Hong Kong) Limited,[1] China Mobile was born from the 1999 break-up of China Telecom.[10] (This company continues to provide mobile services, however.[9])
State control[link]
China Mobile likely enjoys substantial protectionist benefits from China's government,[11] but also experiences frequent government intervention in its business affairs.[12] Government control is maintained through a presumably government-owned holding company, China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC), that owns 100 percent ownership of China Mobile (HK) Group Limited,[13] which in turn holds over seventy percent ownership of China Mobile–the remainder being controlled by public investors.[2] Established in 2000,[13] CMCC is China Mobile Ltd's current parent company.[14]
Rural subscriber base[link]
China Mobile has historically held a greater share of the rural market than competitors.[16] By 2006, its network had expanded to provide reception for 97% of the Chinese population,[17] and the company has since seen a sustained stream of new, rural mobile customers.[16]
China Mobile also offers information services targeted at the rural market, including the Agricultural Information Service, which allows a variety of activities to take place through the use of mobile phones and the Internet. These include the sale and purchase of agricultural products, access to market prices for produce, wire transfers, bank withdrawals and payments, etc.[18]
Overseas activities[link]
China Mobile expanded overseas in 2007 with the purchase of Paktel in Pakistan[19] launching the ZONG brand there a year later.[20]
Domestic acquisitions[link]
In May 2008, the company took over China Tietong, a fixed-line telecom[21] and the then third-largest broadband ISP in China,[22] adding Internet services to its core business of mobile services.
Network[link]
China Mobile operates a GSM network,[23] which encompasses all 31 provinces, autonomous regions and directly administered municipalities in Mainland China and includes Hong Kong, too.[2] GPRS is utilized for data transmission.[24]

The company controls 70% of the Chinese mobile market, but a far smaller percentage of the 3G market.[9] As of May 2012, its nearly 60 million 3G subscribers account for roughly 9% of its total subscriber base,[25] which is an increase from 3% in 2010.[9]
Its 3G network, still under construction in 2010, utilizes the TD-SCDMA standard,[26] which China Mobile helped develop. 3G service is available in all of the 4 direct-controlled municipalities and most of the 283 prefecture-level cities in China as of 2010.[26]

As of 2010, China Mobile has debuted small-scale 4G demonstration networks using a variant of 3GPP Long Term Evolution, TD-LTE, and has plans for larger, city-wide demonstration networks in the future.[26] As of May 2012, such networks are in operation.[25]
While prior iPhone models couldn't use the China Mobile network because it relies on a China-only 3G standard, talks to carry the as-yet-unreleased 4G Apple iPhone began in mid-2012.[25]

In May 2011, China Mobile announced its network now includes the controversial Spratly Islands.[28]

In April 2012, China Mobile revealed a 4G network based car device at the Beijing Auto Show. The device was developed by China Mobile's research institute and China's automobile designer CH Auto Technology Corporation. It features navigation, real time traffic, remote vehicle diagnostics and vehicle rescue. In addition, the device supports group calls, as well as vehicle wi-fi hot spots. [1] [29]

Nokia Siemens Networks B.V. is a multinational data networking and telecommunications equipment company headquartered in Espoo, Finland and a joint venture between Nokia of Finland and Siemens of Germany. It is the world's fourth-largest telecoms equipment manufacturer measured by 2011 revenues (after Ericsson, Huawei and Alcatel-Lucent). Nokia Siemens Networks has operations in around 150 countries.
The company was created as the result of a joint venture between Siemens Communications division (minus its Enterprise business unit) and Nokia's Network Business Group. The formation of the company was publicly announced on 19 June 2006. Nokia Siemens Networks was officially launched at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona in February 2007. Nokia Siemens Networks then began full operations on 1 April 2007 and has its headquarters in Espoo, Greater Helsinki, Finland. In January 2008 Nokia Siemens Networks acquired Israeli company Atrica, a company that builds carrier-class Ethernet transport systems for metro networks. The official release did not disclose terms, however they are thought to be in the region of $100 million. In February 2008 Nokia Siemens Networks acquired Apertio, Bristol UK-based, a mobile network customer management tools provider for €140 million. With this acquisition Nokia Siemens Networks gained customers in the subscriber management area including Orange, T-Mobile, O2, Vodafone and Hutchison 3G. On July 19, 2010, Nokia Siemens Networks announced it would acquire the wireless-network equipment division of Motorola. The acquisitions was completed on April 29, 2011 for US $975 million in cash. As part of the transaction pproximately 6,900 employees transferred to Nokia Siemens Networks.
