Mecom Group plc (LSE: MEC) is a newspaper publishing company headquartered in London, United Kingdom.

It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and was a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index until 22 December 2008, when it became one of three media companies to fall out of the index.

The company was founded in 2005 by David Montgomery, a former CEO of the Mirror Group and former editor of The Sun, Daily Mirror, News of the World and Today.

Mecom was first listed on the Alternative Investment Market in 2005.

In 2008, Mecom was admitted to the main list of the London Stock Exchange.

In 2010, half the revenue and three-quarters of the profit comes from the Dutch Wegener group. Mecom is considered no more than a holding company with more debts (370 mil.) than stock value (320 mil.).

The Company owned around 300 titles and has had substantial operations in the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Germany and Poland. However, in 2009, Mecom sold all their newspapers in Germany to M. DuMont Schauberg and large parts of their newspapers in Norway.

Tom Toumazis is the Chief Executive of Mecom Group. He was appointed in August 2011.

Tom has worked in the media industry since 1983. Before Mecom, Tom was the Chief Commercial Officer of Endemol Group. From January 2009, he managed the successful expansion and diversification of Endemol’s worldwide commercial interests and managed Endemol Sport, which has become the fastest growing sports media company in Europe. Tom was also Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Disney-ABC-ESPN Television in charge of programme, new media and channel distribution and prior to that joined The Walt Disney Company in 2001 from Emap, where he held a number of positions, including Managing Director of Emap Advertising During his time at Emap, he completed the General Manager Programme at Harvard Business School.

Tom is Chairman of the ChildLine Board, a Director of the Charity’s National Development Fundraising Board and an Honorary Member of the NSPCC Council.

Mecom Group is one of Europe’s largest consumer publishing companies, with multiplatform brands in the Netherlands, Denmark, and Poland. The Group is aims to pursue a paid for subscriber model across all of its platforms, leveraging the strength of its pre-existing relationships with its 1.2 million print subscribers – most subscribers in Europe.
