Jonathan Arthur "Jon" Scott (born November 7, 1958) is an American television news anchor, co-hosting Happening Now from 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. ET with Jenna Lee on Fox News Channel.^[1]

Personal life and education[link]

Jon Scott was born in Denver, Colorado and graduated from Denver Lutheran High School. Afterward, he attended journalism school at the University of Missouri in Columbia. Scott is also a private pilot, who is rated to fly single engine airplanes.^[2] Scott and his wife Sharon live in Irvington, New York, and are the parents of four children. Sharon Scott is an executive at NBC. One son is a cadet at West Point in the Class of 2011. Jon Scott's older brother was an infantryman in the Vietnam War.^[3]

Broadcasting career[link]

Scott began his career as a correspondent for KOMU-TV (NBC) in Columbia, Missouri, a station owned and operated by Mizzou. Later, he was the weekday evening news anchor, weekend co-anchor and reporter for WPLG-TV (ABC) in Miami. He also worked as a reporter and bureau chief for KUSA-TV (NBC) in Denver.^[4] Beginning in 1988, Jon Scott was a reporter for the syndicated news program Inside Edition. From 1992–95, he was a correspondent for Dateline NBC. Scott served as the host the syndicated newsmagazine A Current Affair, and eventually joined the Fox News Channel in 1996. He is an avid watcher of The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. On the night of May 1 - May 2, 2011 Jon Scott served as the studio anchor for Fox News' coverage of the death of Osama bin Laden. In a July, 2011 live interview he asked Bill Nye if newly discovered volcanoes on the moon^[5][6][7][8] were related to the climate change debate on Earth saying, "It's not like we've been up there burning fossil fuels."^{[9][10] [11]} Nye replied that "volcanoes are not connected to burning fossil fuels."

Shawn Thornton (born July 23, 1977) is a Canadian professional hockey forward for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League. He is known to be an enforcer.

Playing career[link]

Thornton grew up playing minor hockey for his hometown Oshawa Minor Generals of the OMHA's Eastern AAA League. He was drafted in the 9th round (145th overall) by the Peterborough Petes in the 1995 OHL Priority Selection, one year after being originally passed over in the draft as a Midget-aged player.

He was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1997, 190th overall. He won the Stanley Cup in 2007 with the Anaheim Ducks and again in 2011 with the Boston Bruins.

On July 1, 2007, he became an unrestricted free agent and signed a three-year, 1.5 million dollar deal with the Boston Bruins.^[1]

With the Bruins, Thornton finally became an NHL regular, and he has become famous for taking on famous enforcers like Georges Laraque, Donald Brashear and Riley Cote. He also has his own video blog on the Bruins website.

Thornton was involved in the first fight in the history of the Winter Classic with Philadelphia Flyers agitator Daniel Carcillo on January 1, 2010 at Boston's Fenway Park.^[2]

During the 2011 Stanley Cup run, Thornton was a healthy scratch for several games as the Bruins chose to play rookie Tyler Seguin to gain more offense. However, many^[who?] credit the insertion of Thornton into the line-up during Game 3 of the Finals as a turning point for the series. Thornton's physical play changed the tone of the series and the Bruins went on to win four of the last five games with him in the line-up. On June 15, 2011, Shawn Thornton got to lift the Stanley Cup for the second time in 2011, the first time Boston has won since 1972.

On October 2, 2010, he and the Boston Bruins played an exhibition game against the Belfast Giants in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where his mother was born.^[3]

Thornton is a cousin of Bill Greer of the Edmonton Rush, Chris Brunt of West Bromwich Albion and Zack Greer of the Minnesota Swarm.^[4][5] He is not related to cousins Joe Thornton (currently with San Jose) and Scott Thornton (a former NHL player who retired in 2008).

Derek Dorsett (born December 20, 1986 in Kindersley, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League.

Dorsett played major junior hockey with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League (WHL) and helped them win the Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL champions in 2007. Dorsett established himself as a griity player in Medicine Hat, leading the team in penalty minutes in 2006–07 while finishing tied for second in team scoring with 64 points.

Dorsett was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets 189th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Graduating from major junior, he spent 2007–08 with the Syracuse Crunch, the Blue Jackets' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. He scored his first NHL goal the following season on October 21, 2008 against Roberto Luongo in a 4-2 win against the Vancouver Canucks.^[1]

Ronnie Scott (28 January 1927 – 23 December 1996) was an English jazz tenor saxophonist and jazz club owner.

Life and career[link]

Ronnie Scott (originally Ronald Schatt) was born in Aldgate, east London, into a family of Russian Jewish descent on his father's side, and Portuguese antecedents on his mother's.^[1] Scott began playing in small jazz clubs at the age of sixteen. (His claim to fame being, he was taught to play by "Vera Lynn's father-in-law!") He toured with Johnny Claes, the trumpeter, from 1944 to 1945 and with Ted Heath in 1946, as well as working with Ambrose, Cab Kaye, and Tito Burns. He was involved in the short-lived musicians' co-operative Club Eleven band and club (1948–1950), with Johnny Dankworth and others, and was a member of the generation of British musicians who worked on the Cunard liner Queen Mary (intermittently 1946–c. 1950) in order to visit New York and hear the new music directly. Scott was among the earliest British musicians to be influenced in his playing style by Charlie Parker and other bebop musicians.

In 1952 Scott joined Jack Parnell's orchestra, then led his own nine-piece group and quintet featuring among others, Pete King, with whom he would later open his jazz club, Victor Feldman, Hank Shaw and Phil Seamen from 1953 to 1956. He co-led The Jazz Couriers with Tubby Hayes from 1957 to 1959, and was leader of a quartet including Stan Tracey (1960–1967).

During this period he also did occasional session work; his best-known work here is the solo on The Beatles' "Lady Madonna". He was said to be upset at the amount of his saxophone that made the final cut on the original record^{[citation needed]}. He also played on film scores, including "Fear Is the Key", composed by Roy Budd. He continued to be in demand for guest appearances in later years, such as providing the tenor sax solo on Phil Collins's 1981 hit single "I Missed Again".

From 1967–69, Scott was a member of The Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band which toured Europe extensively and which also featured fellow tenor players Johnny Griffin and Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, at the same time running his own octet including John Surman and Kenny Wheeler (1968–1969), and a trio with Mike Carr on keyboards and Bobby Gien on drums (1971–1975). He then went on to lead various groups, most of which included John Critchinson on keyboards and Martin Drew on drums.

Ronnie Scott's playing was much admired on both sides of the Atlantic. Charles Mingus said of him in 1961: "Of the white boys, Ronnie Scott gets closer to the negro blues feeling, the way Zoot Sims does."^[2] Despite his central position in the British jazz scene, Scott recorded infrequently during the last few decades of his career. He suffered periods of depression and, while recovering slowly from surgery for tooth implants, died at age 69 from an accidental overdose of barbiturates prescribed by his dentist.^[3]

He was cremated at the Golders Green Crematorium.

The author Joel Lane is Scott's nephew.

Scott is perhaps best remembered for co-founding, with former tenor sax player Pete King, the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, which opened on 30 October 1959 in a basement at 39 Gerrard Street in London's Soho district, with the debut of a young alto sax player named Peter King (no relation), before later moving to a larger venue nearby at 47 Frith Street in 1965. The original venue continued in operation as the "Old Place" until the lease ran out in 1967, and was used for performances by the up and coming generation of domestic musicians.

Scott regularly acted as the club's genial Master of Ceremonies, and was (in)famous for his repertoire of jokes, asides and one-liners. A typical introduction might go: "Our next guest is one of the finest musicians in the country. In the city, he's crap".

After Scott's death, King continued to run the club for a further nine years, before selling the club to theatre impresario Sally Greene in June 2005.

Alexandre Bolduc (born June 26, 1985) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre who currently plays for the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Playing career[link]

Bolduc played major junior in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) for four seasons with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and Shawinigan Cataractes. After his second season in the QMJHL, a 14-goal, 43-point campaign with the Huskies, he was selected in the fourth round, 127th overall, by the St. Louis Blues in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. However, at the end of his junior career, he was a free agent and signed with the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL.

During his first season with the Condors, he moved up to the AHL with the Manitoba Moose. In 2007–08, Bolduc recorded a strong 37-point campaign with the Moose and was signed by the Moose's NHL affiliate, the Vancouver Canucks on July 9, 2008.^[1]

Continuing to play for the Moose as part of the Canucks' farm system in 2008–09 season, Bolduc was called up by the Canucks on November 25, 2008, to replace an injured Ryan Johnson^[2] and played his first NHL game on November 27 against the Calgary Flames.^[3] He scored his first career NHL goal against Craig Anderson of the Colorado Avalanche on January 2, 2011.^[4]

On July 2, 2011, Bolduc left Vancouver, signing a one-year, two-way contract with the Phoenix Coyotes.^[5]
