Imaginaerum (2012)

Plot
Imaginaerum tells the story of an elderly composer, Tom, who suffers from severe dementia. As he has had the disease for years and has regressed into childhood, he remembers practically nothing from his adult life. His music, friends, all his past including the memory of his daughter are a blur in his fragile mind. All he has left is the imagination of a ten year old boy. As he drifts away into coma, it seems impossible to get back what he has lost. Or is it? The film is a journey between two different dimensions. Tom travels through his imaginary world seeking answers and finding memories, while his daughter, Gem, tries to recover the bond she had once shared with her father in the real world. As they have become more and more distant from each other over the years, and as there's even greater obstacles separating them now Tom's coma and his imminent death Gem's project feels doomed to failure. However, through Tom's darkest secrets, Gem discovers the path she must follow in order to find her father again. There are some questions we must ask ourselves before entering the world of Imaginaerum. What is most important in life? Can the power of memories protect us during our last moments? Will our imagination help us find the spark of life in the deepest darkness? Can we still find love after bitter forgiveness? Imaginaerum is an emotional fantasy-adventure powered by the music of Nightwish. The story reminds us of our childhood where the smallest but most precious thing meant everything and losing it would have left an everlasting scar. Now its time to reopen the wound and see what became of it, but above all, where it came from.

Tom Laughlin, the iconic star of the "Billy Jack" film franchise has died at the age of 82. It is reported that he passed away from complications with pneumonia. The "Billy Jack" films changed my life. They taught me how to be a better person, how to be non-violent in a violent world, that our government did not always tell the truth. They exposed me for the first time to the plight of the Native Indians in this counTry, to what happened at Mai-Li,; they were the first time I heard the Lord's prayer ever spoken. They changed not only me, but a generation of young people fresh from the ravages of Vietnam and Watergate. They gave us a direction and something to believe in. My favorite memeory of Tom Laughlin is the time I met he and his lovely wife Delores Taylor 9who co-starred in the "Billy Jack" films, of course. This was at the Armand Hammer Museum in Westwood, California in 2012 for a special showing of "Billy Jack" with the stars in attendance. Many of the cast were there. Mr. Laughlin and Miss Taylor autographed my DVD Box Set of the 'Billy Jack" films and we talked about the spiritual aspects that are inherent in the films. Just as one would suspect, Mr. Laughlin was full of the energy, hubris and bravado that he was known for, telling stories of how he bought the negative of "Billy Jack" from 20th Century Fox, took it to Warner Bros., "four-walled" the film himself (a practice by which he and Delores would rent out theaters and collect the profits on a film every major studio had passed on.) My second favorite memory is, of course, the films themselves. "Billy Jack" became the most popular independent film of all time. In my neighborhood, the entire group of us would go over and over again to see the film. We took special pride in feeling that we alone had had something to do with the success of the film. "Trial of Billy Jack" played in my hometown of Downey, California and we all bundled in the cold for hours on opening night to see the continuation of the story which we had come to discuss in detail and dream about. We were not let down. It's a terrific film. "Billy Jack Goes To Washington" I saw at the Bruin theater in Westwood. The week it opened, the line stretched around the block for hours.
