St. Gertrude the Great
St. Gertrude the Great: Patroness of Cloistered Nuns, Travellers, and the West Indes, Invoked for Souls in Purgatory and for Living Sinners www.2heartsnetwork.org "Behold," said Our Savior, "such is the life which Gertrude, My beloved, leads before My face. She walks ever in My presence, never losing sight of Me for an instant. She has but one desire: to know the good pleasure of My Heart. As soon as she has ascertained this, she executes My will with care and fidelity. Her whole life is an unbroken chain of praise consecrated to My honor and glory." - Vision of St. Mechtilde Jesus: ...Do not fight against a temptation by yourself, but disclose it to the confessor/priest at once, and then the temptation will lose all its force. Second, during these ordeals do not lose your peace; live in My presence; ask My Mother and the Saints for help. Third, have the certitude that I am looking at you and supporting you. Fourth, do not fear either struggles of the soul or any temptations, because I am supporting you; if only you are willing to fight, know that the victory is always on your side. Fifth, know that by fighting bravely you give Me great glory and amass merits for yourself. Temptation gives you a chance to show Me your fidelity. (1560) - St. Faustina

The Chaplet of, St. Gertrude The Great, Prayer
Our Lord told St. Gertrude the Great that this prayer would release 1000 Souls from Purgatory each time it is said. The prayer was extended to include living sinners which would alleviate the indebtedness accrued to them during their lives. I put this prayer along with a few others together on a Rosary to use as a Chaplet.

Benedict XVI: St. Gertrude Teaches Us the Love of God
Pope Benedict XVI's catechesis at the General Audience on Wednesday was dedicated to Saint Gertrude the Great. This Benedictine saint and mystic of the 13th century expressed the richness of spirituality not only of her monastic world, but also and above all that of the biblical, liturgical, patristic and Benedictine. She did so with her own personal stamp and communicated it with great effectiveness. The life and work of this mystique is still present, the Pope noted, because we can learn to love with humility and faith in Christ and in his Church, to cultivate our personal prayer with fidelity, to participate in the Mass and to live the Liturgy intensely , nourishing our spiritual journey. And we ca ...

Free 10000 Souls From Purgatory Listen till the end
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the most precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory. I was praying this song over and over, and then started singing it and this is what i got. Please sing along. This is a very powerful prayer. Our Lord told St. Gertrude the Great that the following prayer would release 1000 Souls from Purgatory each time it is said.

back to the future…
dinky loop just weren’t made for these times. their music is of a better future or a golden past but somehow at odds with the present. to provide the perfect visual accompaniment to the dinkies musical catalogue, we are taking their music time travelling. our counter cultural revolution- codename: queens of disco sleaze- will travel back to before 1980, collect data, assemble it creatively with a loving, non-ironic spirit of the time and bring a fuller musical experience back to the future.
that’s the dream but, in truth, we don’t know where this project will take us. we don’t know if making videos as if we are back in the disco era- using only footage that existed up to that point- will help us get back in touch with the creative process after having become overly spoiled by amazing technological affects’ advances. we don’t know what we will learn from the idealism of past but we’re open and committed to seeing where the queens of disco sleaze project takes us and it can be viewed as it evolves, here on vimeo…

[optional reading for the thesis and probably best avoided :) ]
project guidelines:
no budget- this is an in-it-for-the-love only project.
no cameras or fancy editing software- making videos as if we are back in the disco era means we can only use footage and editing techniques that existed prior to 1980.
adopt vital creative attitudes of the era - post-punk three chords and the truth, disco grooviness and early hip-hop sampling techniques to make a moment from the past into something greater in the future.
find a way to express how creativity feeds off other creativity and how the future becomes the past and the past returns again in the future. normally this might involve cause-and-effect shots one after the other but we’ve found ourselves continually drawn to split-screen expression. wish we could rationalise this decision beyond saying it feels essential and right for this project to allow both to co-exist onscreen simultaneously, but we can’t.
consider each song and completed video as part of an entire series with its own visual identity in a way that factory records had an immediate identity through peter saville’s art direction. no band has ever had a complete visual identity through their music videos. a single thumbnail (with no words) should identify a queens of disco sleaze/dinky loop music video if the project works.
express the classic, but not in-your-face-modern, sexiness to dinky loop’s music through erotic visual parallels that can be found in the past. there’s often something exquisitely, undeniably sexy about the past- never remove the sexiness.
consider the alleged jean-luc godard quote: it’s not what you take, it’s where you take it.
never use poor footage of the past to make ourselves look good in the future. too much irony is a creative block. find great moments and potential stories within movies that had fatal flaws. find great people. find the forgotten heroes who could’ve been the next marilyn monroe but ended up with a one-way ticket to polookaville. and bring them back to the future to be remembered.
learn about filmmaking by trying to produce stories with old footage with the inventiveness of a silent filmmaker, instead of just mood pieces.
never use capitals and lower case letters. in the future no letter will ever look down on another letter… :)

The Claypot Restaurant on Gertrude Street
Why do we love Gertrude Street so much...? Because of it's wonderful vibrant and diverse community. A huge part of that is the traders who line the street.
This is the first in a series of short clips about Gertrude Street and it's people.
Introducing Renan and Neelam from Claypot Restaurant...
In Renan's own words, "Gertrude Street is a great street...", and the food at the Claypot Restaurant looks pretty wonderful too!
