Lindy Chamberlain released 1986
The release of Lindy Chamberlain from this interesting bit of history ABC Lindy Chamberlain Free. The final resolution of the case was triggered by a chance discovery. In early 1986, English tourist David Brett fell to his death from Uluru during an evening climb. Because of the vast size of the rock and the scrubby nature of the surrounding terrain, it was eight days before Brett's remains were discovered, lying below the bluff where he had lost his footing and in an area full of dingo lairs. As police searched the area, looking for missing bones that might have been carried off by dingoes, they discovered a small item of clothing. It was quickly identified as the crucial missing piece of evidence from the Chamberlain case—Azaria's missing matinee jacket. The Chief Minister of the Northern Territory ordered Lindy Chamberlain's immediate release and the case was reopened. On 15 September 1988, the Northern Territory Court of Criminal Appeals unanimously overturned all convictions against Lindy and Michael Chamberlain. The exoneration was based on a rejection of the two key points of the prosecution's case—particularly the alleged fetal haemoglobin evidence—and of bias and invalid assumptions made during the initial trial. The questionable nature of the forensic evidence in the Chamberlain trial, and the weight given to it, raised concerns about such procedures and about expert testimony in criminal cases. The prosecution had successfully argued that the pivotal ...

Lindy Chamberlain case.
Source Skynews www.youtube.com A new inquest into the death of baby Azaria Chamberlain who vanished in the Australian desert 30 years ago has heard it is likely a dingo likely took the infant. Azaria disappeared from a tent in the desert near Uluru, or Ayers Rock as it was known, in 1980. The case has been the subject of three previous inquests and a trial which saw Lindy Chamberlain jailed, but evidence to the fourth inquest suggests that attacks by dingoes on humans are frequent and sometimes fatal. "It gives me hope that this time that Australians will finally be warned and realise that dingoes are a dangerous animal," Azaria's mother told journalists outside the court. Lindy Chamberlain Cleared: Australian Coroner Says Dingo Killed Baby
An Australian coroner ruled that a dingo did in fact kidnap and kill baby Azaria Chamberlain back in 1980. The infamous case that shook the world over three decades ago led to the mistaken murder conviction of the nine-week-old's mother Lindy Chamberlain. Azaria disappeared on August 17, 1980, from a tent in a camping ground near one of central Australia's main tourist attractions. Her body was never found. Parents Michael Chamberlain and Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton have always maintained Lindy's innocence. s Lindy served more than three years in prison for the death of her baby but was later cleared. Coroner Elizabeth Morris offered her condolences to the family, and had this to say, "Azaria Chamberlain died at Uluru, then known as Ayers Rock, on the 17th of August 1980. The cause of her death was as the result of being attacked and taken by a dingo. It is obvious, not just from these findings but from other injuries and deaths since, dingoes can and do cause harm to humans." In 1980 during the investigation into the case, dingo attacks were unheard of, leading Australian courts to doubt Chamberlain's testimony. Outside the Darwin court, Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton said she was relieved and delighted to come to the end of the saga and said the ruling set a new precedent. "No longer will Australia be able to say that dingoes are not dangerous and only attack if provoked. We live in a beautiful country but it is dangerous and we would ask all Australians to be aware of ...

Dingo killed Azaria: Chamberlains vindicated
Lindy Chamberlain was found guilty of her daughter Azaria's murder in an Ayres Rock campground in 1982. She was sentenced to life imprisonment. A royal commission eventually quashed the conviction, but Ms Chamberlain-Creighton has continued the fight to clear her name and prove that a dingo killed Azaria. Here she addresses the media after the Northern Territory coroner ruled on Tuesday that a dingo did indeed take Azaria.

Dingo caused baby Azaria Chamberlain's death
An Australian coroner has made a final ruling that a dingo dog took baby Azaria Chamberlain from a campsite in 1980 and caused her death. Lindy Chamberlain and her husband appeared at court where the coroner has ruled that a dingo took and killed baby Azaria Chamberlain from a campsite in the Outback, just as her mother Lindy Chamberlain- Breighton said from the beginning. The timeline of this case started on 17 Aug 1980 when Baby Azaria Chamberlain disappeared from a campsite near Uluru (Ayers Rock) - her parents say she was taken by a dingo'. In 1982 her mother Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton was convicted of murder; and the father Michael Chamberlain was found guilty of being an accessory. In 1986, Police found a piece of the baby's clothing in an area of dingo lairs - the case is then reopened. On 15 Sep 1988: Both Lindy and Michael Chamberlain are cleared of charges. In 1995: an Open verdict was recorded following another inquest. Earlier this year a fourth inquest was opened which recorded an open verdict. Speaking outside the court Mrs Chamberlain and her ex-husband said they are relieved and delighted to come to the end of this saga,''. She added that ''No longer will Australia be able to say that dingoes are not dangerous,'' she added. ''We live in a beautiful country but it is dangerous.'' Written & Presented by Ann Salter
