Consonant Digraphs: sh ch wh th
I made up this story over 40 years ago to help my first grade students remember the sounds represented by the consonant digraphs sh, ch, wh, and th. Back then, however, I used a slate to tell it.

How to Rap - Assonance, Consonance and Alliteration
To see more videos: www.youtube.com Facebook: www.facebook.com Twitter: @Donovonjenson Leave your questions in the comment box. I should have one of these out every other week so be on the lookout for that. Any quality improvement ideas would be great. Oh and don't forget to subscribe! This week I'm gonna be talking about assonance, consonance and alliteration. You can use these techniques to give your pieces a more subtle, poetic sound. Alliteration is the most common, and what you'll be able to easily pick out of verses. Assonance and Consonance (vowels or consonants) Assonance: Repeated Vowel sounds Basically that's all it is, the same vowel sound repeated throughout different words in the line or bar. The letters don't have to be the same, the important part is the sound. Here's some examples so it'll make a little more sense Examples: tw[i]l[i]ght meets tw[i]ce at n[i]ght A Pr[ou]dr[ou]nd cl[ou]d with am[ou]nd of cl[ou]t D[o] y[ou] like bl[ue] (same sounds, different letters) Consonance: Repeated consonant sounds Examples: No[rm], the wo[rm] was taken by sto[rm] Sla[m] the dru[m] into so[m]e [m]a[mm]al I ba[tt]le bri[tt]le wri[tt]ens in li[tt]le se[t]s Alliteration: First Syllable Repeating [B]ig [b]abies [b]ow to [b]othered [b]rothers [R]ed [r]angers [r]ope off the lower [r]ecepticle Sometimes the same letters can be pronounced in different ways, the important part is that the pronunciation sound is the same, not the spelling. As always, don't let these tools ...

Long Vowel A Vowel Consonant Vowel, Beginning Readers Grammar Phonics Lesson
www.firststepreading.com | Long Vowel sounds are when Vowels make the sound of their Letter Names. When one sees the pattern of Vowel then Consonant then Vowel, the grammatical rule for that arrangement is that the first Vowel is a Long Vowel and that Vowel makes the sound of its Letter Name, the Consonant makes its usual sound, and the second Vowel is silent. An example of this letter pattern with Long Vowel A is the word "Ate." The A makes the sound of its Letter Name "A," the T makes the sound "t," and the E does not make any sound. This video teaches the grammatical rule for Vowel Consonant Vowel with a song "Vowel Consonant Vowel. Vowel Consonant Vowel. The first vowel says its name the second vowel says nothing." To practice the Long Vowel A, Vowel Consonant Vowel, grammatical rule there are stories for your child to read in the Practice Reading Book 2 that correlate with the same Long Vowel A word families addressed in the video (Practice Reading Book 2 Pages: 1-11).
