Werner Herzog - Selfportrait / Selbstportrait (1986)
Full version (deutsch / english subtitles). In this production directed by Herzog himself, "Portrait Werner Herzog" shows him at a time and from a cultural angle that countless more recent interviews and profiles don't. We see his footage of Munich's elaborately boisterous Oktoberfest; we see him in the green Bavarian valley of his youth. "I'm the kind of person who travels on foot," he explains, "even for long distances." This leads to the story of his walk from Munich to Paris to visit the ailing film critic Lotte Eisner (whom Herzog calls "the consciousness of the new German cinema"), which became his book "Of Walking In Ice". He speaks of hypnotizing an entire cast for "Heart of Glass", of fighting the aggressively filmmaking-unfriendly Peruvian jungle to shoot "Fitzcarraldo", and of planning a never-realized Himalayan film starring frequent (and frequently volatile) collaborator Klaus Kinski. "Here we can truly see how hard it is to make a film," so Herzog sums up his struggle, "but this is my life, and I don't want to live it in any other way." In that respect, nothing has changed in 25 years.

MMM presents Werner Herzog's "God's Angry Man" (1980)
God's Angry Man is a 1980 documentary film about Gene Scott, directed by Werner Herzog. The film was produced for television. The German title Glaube und Währung translates as Faith and Currency. The film consists of footage of Scott on the set of his television program Festival of Faith and interviews with Scott and Scott's parents conducted by Herzog. The footage from Scott's television program focuses almost exclusively on his fund raising efforts and an elaborate rant against the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Scott at one point refuses to speak until his viewers pledge an additional $600. After a minute's silence, he yells angrily at the camera until a production assistant informs him that they had already received $700. Scott represents the FCC on his show by a cymbal-banging monkey toy. Directed by: Werner Herzog Produced by: Werner Herzog Written by: Werner Herzog Narrated by: Werner Herzog Starring: Gene Scott, Werner Herzog Cinematography: Thomas Mauch Editing by: Beate Mainka-Jellinghaus Studio: Werner Herzog Filmproduktion Süddeutscher Rundfunk (SDR) (co-production) Sudfunk Stuttgart (co-production) Distributed by: New Yorker Films (USA) Release date: 1980 Running time: 43 minutes Country: West Germany Language: English, German

Mani Nasry an exceptionally talented filmmaker, actor and artist with a sophisticated breadth of education, skills, experience, and professional accomplishments. He trained as an actor and director in New York with Salem Ludwig and with Donna DeMatteo for playwriting. For Mani, the decision to work in the film industry guided his academic decisions from an early age. He attended a Toronto high school renowned for excellence in the arts, and was accepted into one of the highly competitive film program at Ryerson university. It is notable that he went to Ryerson with an already well-established career in theatre, film, television and commercial work, and a range of multi-faceted achievements including producing, cinematography, casting, writing, directing, acting, and editing. On his own he added stints in New York and Los Angeles with leading acting teachers, as well as learning the grace and style of many forms of dance and athletics. With courses perceptively, he has also recognized the importance of acquiring an understanding of the business side of the industry, and the varied aspects of technology and production. There are some people clearly born to follow the path they have chosen from the start. Mani Nasry has the passion to succeed, the curiosity and ingenuity required to lead and collaborate in an industry known for its impact and appeal, and the strength of character and work ethic to immerse himself in finding and telling an unforgettable story.

SILENCE OF DEATH directed by Mani Nasry (16MM FILM) 1ST YEAR RYERSON UNIVERSITY STUDENT FILM
IMDB PAGE
www.imdb.me/maninasry
This Scene expresses- FEAR- noun: an emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger (usually accompanied by a desire to flee or fight). noun: a feeling of anxiety and agitation caused by the presence or nearness of danger, evil, pain, etc.; timidity; dread; terror; fright; apprehension. Terrify not your soul with vain imaginary fears. By realizing that you are the one feeding the fire, you can start to take control of your fears. Panic is a vicious cycle that can be broken. When you start to have irrational fears you need to take action quick. Eleanor Roosevelt once said: "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing, which you think you cannot do." We must stop running away from things that frighten us, face our fears head on, and do the thing we fear the most. Most of the time we'll find out that the "thing" was not that scary after all. Our imaginations had behaved like a super fertilizer and grown a grotesque monstrosity in our minds. Remember, our imaginations are incredibly powerful. They can work against us, creating horrible images that leave us paralyzed with fear and they can also work for us, building a world where everything we do is an adventure, a miracle. And the most amazing thing is that we hold the power to control our minds - we allow fear to dominate our lives or we choose to dominate fear. Those are our only two choices.

Werner Herzog - Berlinale 2012 (In English)
Werner Herzog's Death Row, a work that has an unusual format for a film festival, was given a platform at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele. The former President of the International Jury (Berlinale 2010) presented his four-part TV series, each of which gives an individual portrait of a person who has been sentenced to death in the USA. Afterwards, the audience had the opportunity to discuss what they had seen with Werner Herzog.

Werner Herzog on images, TV, and shoes
Clips from Les Blank's classic 1980 short, "Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe." (visit lesblank.com to obtain the whole film). The film documents Herzog fulfilling a bet he made with Errol Morris: if Morris would finish his brilliant first feature "Gates of Heaven," Herzog said he would eat his shoe. He uses this public stunt to say some very serious things about American pop culture, filmmakers becoming "clowns" to promote their work, and the culture of images (or lack thereof). Clips like these can be found at the new Media Funhouse blog, which offers clips, reviews, a guide to YouTube and other sites, as well as everything in pop culture "from high art to low trash, and back again..." www.mediafunhouse.blogspot.com
