Die Stiftsgebäude stehen auf den Ruinen der römischen Siedlung Veldidena. Im 16. Jahrhundert wurden dort zahlreiche römische Ziegel, Münzen und Mauerreste entdeckt und von Matthias Burglechner in seiner Landesbeschreibung Tirolischer Adler von 1619 erwähnt. Der Sage nach wurde das Kloster vom Riesen Haymon ca. 880 gegründet.
Der gefürchtete Riese Haymon bezwang seinen Kontrahenten, den Riesen Thyrsus, aufgrund der besseren Bewaffnung im Zweikampf. Ein Mönch bekehrte Haymon zum Christentum. Im Gefühl der Reue über seine Tat stellte er den Bau seines Schlosses ein und begann den Bau des Klosters. Der Teufel war darüber erzürnt und befahl einem Lindwurm den Weiterbau des Klosters zu verhindern. Haymon tötete das Tier und schnitt die Zunge heraus. Nach Fertigstellung des Klosters wurde Haymon Bruder des Stifts. Er wurde auch darin beigesetzt.
Zwei Statuen am Eingang und eine weitere Haymonstatue im Eingangsbereich, die die abgeschnittene Zunge des Drachen in der Hand hält, erinnern im Stift an diese Sage. Tatsächlich wurde das Kloster wohl vor 1138 durch Bischof Reginbert von Brixen als bischöfliches Eigenkloster gegründet, auf dessen Wunsch Prämonstratenser aus dem oberschwäbischen Kloster Rot an der Rot einen älteres Kollegiatstift von Weltpriestern ablösten; Papst Innozenz II. bestätigte am 30. April 1138 dem Wiltener Kanonikerorden unter seinem ersten Propst namens Marquard die Augustinusregel in ihrer prämonstratensischen Ausprägung, den Besitzstand, das freie Propstwahl- und Begräbnisrecht und die Vorrechte des Brixner Diözesanbischofs. Seine Blütezeit erlebte das Stift im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert.

Innsbruck
Innsbruck (German: [ˈʔɪnsbʁʊk], local pronunciation: [ˈʔɪnʃprʊk]) is the capital city of the federal state of Tyrol (Tirol) in western Austria. It is located in the Inn Valley at the junction with the Wipptal (Sill River), which provides access to the Brenner Pass, some 30 km (18.6 mi) to the south.
Innsbruck lies about half way between Munich (Germany) and Verona (Italy). Located in the broad valley between high mountains, the so-called North Chain in the Karwendel Alps (Hafelekarspitze, 2,334 metres or 7,657 feet) to the north, and the Patscherkofel (2,246 m or 7,369 ft) and Serles (2,718 m or 8,917 ft) to the south.
Innsbruck is an internationally renowned winter sports centre, and hosted the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics as well as the 1984 and 1988 Winter Paralympics. Innsbruck also hosted the first Winter Youth Olympics in 2012. The word bruck comes from the same root as the modern German word "Brücke" meaning "bridge" which leads to "the bridge over the Inn".
History
Earliest traces suggest initial inhabitation in the early Stone Age. Surviving pre-Roman place names show that the area has been populated continuously. In the 4th century the Romans established the army station Veldidena (the name survives in today's urban district Wilten) at Oenipons (Innsbruck), to protect the economically important commercial road from Verona-Brenner-Augsburg.

Innsbruck-Wilten AT: Glocken der Stiftskirche Stephanus & Laurentius
Die Stiftsgebäude stehen auf den Ruinen der römischen Siedlung Veldidena. Im 16. Jahrhundert wurden dort zahlreiche römische Ziegel, Münzen und Mauerreste entdeckt und von Matthias Burglechner in seiner Landesbeschreibung Tirolischer Adler von 1619 erwähnt. Der Sage nach wurde das Kloster vom Riesen Haymon ca. 880 gegründet. Der gefürchtete Riese Haymon bezwang seinen Kontrahenten, den Riesen Thyrsus, aufgrund der besseren Bewaffnung im Zweikampf. Ein Mönch bekehrte Haymon zum Christentum. Im Gefühl der Reue über seine Tat stellte er den Bau seines Schlosses ein und begann den Bau des Klosters. Der Teufel war darüber erzürnt und befahl einem Lindwurm den Weiterbau des Klosters zu verhindern. Haymon tötete das Tier und schnitt die Zunge heraus. Jahrhundert wurden dort zahlreiche römische Ziegel, Münzen und Mauerreste entdeckt und von Matthias Burglechner in seiner Landesbeschreibung Tirolischer Adler von 1619 erwähnt. Der Sage nach wurde das Kloster vom Riesen Haymon ca. 880 gegründet.

Zwei Statuen am Eingang und eine weitere Haymonstatue im Eingangsbereich, die die abgeschnittene Zunge des Drachen in der Hand hält, erinnern im Stift an diese Sage. Tatsächlich wurde das Kloster wohl vor 1138 durch Bischof Reginbert von Brixen als bischöfliches Eigenkloster gegründet, auf dessen Wunsch Prämonstratenser aus dem oberschwäbischen Kloster Rot an der Rot einen älteres Kollegiatstift von Weltpriestern ablösten; Papst Innozenz II. bestätigte am 30. April 1138 dem Wiltener Kanonikerorden unter seinem ersten Propst namens Marquard die Augustinusregel in ihrer prämonstratensischen Ausprägung, den Besitzstand, das freie Propstwahl- und Begräbnisrecht und die Vorrechte des Brixner Diözesanbischofs. Seine Blütezeit erlebte das Stift im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert.

Innsbruck, capital of Tirol alongside the surrounding villages is undeniably a great area located in the heart of the North Tyrolean Alps in Austria. The capital of alps is really an unique blend of alpine urban experiences – in a place where the mountains meet the valley and the city is one with nature. The ensemble with a cenotaph and the bronze statues of real and mythical ancestors of the Habsburgian emperor are one of the main artistic monuments of Innsbruck.
In 1938 Austria was annexed by Nazi Germany in the Anschluss. Between 1943 and April 1945, Innsbruck experienced twenty-two bomb attacks and suffered heavy damage. The KZ Innsbruck-Reichenau concentration camp was located here.

My favorite places in Innsbruck were the Golden Roof, Maria-Theresien-Strasse, Imperial Palace, Imperial Chruch of Kenotaph Maximilian I, Ambras Castle, Cathedral of St. James and the Basilika Wilten. These places are all highly worth visiting.
Innsbruck became the capital of all Tyrol in 1429 and in the fifteenth century the city became a centre of European politics and culture as emperor Maximilian I also resided in Innsbruck in the 1490s.
The city benefited from the emperor's presence as can be seen for example in the so called Hofkirche. Here a funeral monument for Maximilian was planned and erected partly by his successors.
The ensemble with a cenotaph and the bronze statues of real and mythical ancestors of the Habsburgian emperor are one of the main artistic monuments of Innsbruck.
In 1938 Austria was annexed by Nazi Germany in the Anschluss. Between 1943 and April 1945, Innsbruck experienced twenty-two bomb attacks and suffered heavy damage. The KZ Innsbruck-Reichenau concentration camp was located here.

It contains many ancient towns, monasteries and fortresses that highlight the region’s history and its proud and hardy mountain people.Kitzbuhel was once a prosperous mining town but today, it is a world famous ski resort that is also popular in the summer months. The old town with its pretty middle class buildings that date back to the 15th century is a fine example of Austria’s country’s rural architecture. Around 4,000 people live in the village of Wildschonau, which is situated in a fascinating valley of the Kitzbuhel Alps that extend for some 24 kilometres. Niederau is the entrance to the Wildschonau region and Oberau is the main village in a valley that features eye catching farm houses whose carved wooden balconies are decorated with splendid flowers.The Alpbach Tal leads into an untouched natural landscape where at an altitude of 975 metres above sea level, is the remote mountain village of Alpbach, the most beautiful village in the Tyrol.Kuhtai is in the Stubaier Alps and can be reached from the Otztal via the Sellraintal that travels at an altitude of around 2,000 metres parallel to the Inntal.Each season of the year, this popular Alpine holiday region attracts visitors from all over the world. Innsbruck, capital of Tirol alongside the surrounding villages is undeniably a great area located in the heart of the North Tyrolean Alps in Austria. The capital of alps is really an unique blend of alpine urban experiences – in a place where the mountains meet the valley and the city is one with nature.
Innsbruck was certainly one of the most picturesque and scenic place i have ever been to. This dream of a short getaway was 5 days long in early June 2016 alongside 3 of my best mates and I hope to visit Austria again in Future.
