Studio Synopsis ~ The head of the "Impossible Missions Force", a top-secret government group of operatives, starts a tape recorder and finds out about his latest assignment. Throughout most of the series, they would have to stop some petty dictator or powerful bad guy from whatever evil plot they had against the U.S. or Democracy in general. The elaborate use of electronic gadgetry, masters of disguise and detailed plans that require split-second timing made this tv show an "on the edge of your seater"!

Running originally from 1966 to 1973, and then seeing its second wind from 1988 – 1989 “Mission: Impossible” was a pioneer in television trickery and a can’t-miss-series for thousands of loyal viewers. And while those slapped together gadgets might seem passé today, given the advancements on both the technology used and TV special effects fronts, half the fun of this all encompassing run is those very moments where ingenuity meets intrigue.
Covert missions, super secret government agencies, self-destructing messages and plot twisting disguises all converge into a docket of dramatic prowess, headed up by a sterling cast and the writing strength of Bruce Geller, whose other series credits include, “Mannix” and “Have Gun – Will Travel”. You always knew a great story was about to decode before your very eyes after hearing that all too infamous address, “Your mission, should you chose to accept it.”
Acceptable enough, the extras menu carries a decent display of series supplements, from behind the scenes looks into the nuts and bolts of production in “Birth of The Mission” and “Mission Debriefing”, to information-rich features – highlighted by interviews with Peter Graves, Barbara Bain, Martin Landau, Peter Lupus and Greg Morris – that offer fans an even further probing of the cast and their individual insights.
The archival interview with Morris allows him to lay out and emphasize certain bullet points even before the first show aired, and the CBS Fall Preview offers up Mission: Impossible as a hopeful new series coming soon to the Fall 1966 line-up. TV historians should especially love this segment, along with the episode and series promos for the original series. Last is a photo montage with optional subtitles – you’ll more than likely need them – featuring the Kane Triplets singing the original Impossible these song…who knew this thing had words?
So whether you’re reliving those happy days of the sixties craze or you just love the boys with the wonderful toys, the “Mission: Impossible Complete Television Collection” makes certain that the only thing sure to self-destruct with this set is hours and hours of your free-time.
