ARCADIA, 17th-21st May 2011, ADC Theatre
ARCADIA SEX, MATHS AND BYRON FREE ONLINE BOOKING: ADCTHEATRE.COM (**Selling out fast! Recommend buying by the end of the weekend) Arcadia is without a doubt one of the finest works of twentieth century British theatre, and this May the Cambridge University Amateur Dramatics Club is pleased to present Tom Stoppard's undisputed masterpiece at the ADC theatre. Effortlessly weaving back and forth across two time periods, Arcadia follows the lives of an aristocratic family and the guests of Sidley Park as they grapple with the birth of Romanticism, Newtonian mathematics and 'carnal embrace'. Set in an English stately home, Arcadia first draws us into the highly spirited 19th century and introduces us to the precocious young Thomasina and her tutor Septimus -- a former schoolmate of Lord Byron. Whilst Thomasina attempts to untangle a curious mathematical anomaly, an unfortunate incident in a gazebo sparks a riotous sex-farce amongst the adult guests that can only end badly. In the present day, we encounter rival academics, Bernard and Hannah, as they attempt to untangle the mystery surrounding Byron's visit to Sidley Park. As with all of Tom Stoppard's plays, Arcadia is intellectually demanding and deals with a broad range of complex material - from thermodynamics to the mechanics of love. "The hard thing about directing Stoppard is figuring out how to combine it's humor with the undeniable gravity of the intellectual content" says Director Charlie Parham, "but when you've ...

ADC Theatre: Jacques and his Master Trailer
CUADC presents Jacques and his Master Milan Kundera, translated by Simon Callow Wednesday 23rd February - Saturday 26th February £6-4 The time and place are unknown. Two men climb down onto the stage, continuing on their journey. Neither them nor us know where they're going, but there's a writer in the sky who is telling them to carry on. Jacques and his Master both gamble with love, involving themselves in situations both criminal, perverse and downright bizarre. The memories of both characters are brought to life by figures from their respective pasts, forcing master and servant to confront the issues of guilt, and the thorny problems of who is ultimately responsible for one's bad behaviour and bad luck. Award-winning writer of "The Unbearable Lightness of Being", Milan Kundera's "Jacques and His Master" is a play where past and present seamlessly overlap, and nothing is quite as you remembered it.

Shades Of Swing @ ADC Show 2011 - Technical Rehearsal
'Shades of Swing' was the Cambridge Lindy Hoppers' contribution to the 2011 CUCDW dance show, 'Inspired', performed at the ADC theatre in Cambridge UK. The piece was choreographed by Maria Andersson and Gerald Bianchi and was a huge success in the show. With 19 people on stage from complete beginners to experienced dancers, the jazz routine was performed to the song Old Joe's Hittin' The Jug by Stuff Smith. Please note that this video was taken during the technical rehearsal and was the first time we performed with proper UV lights.
