Coordinates: 54°20′31″N 1°26′06″W / 54.342°N 1.435°W / 54.342; -1.435 The Vale of Mowbray (sometimes mistakenly referred to as the Vale of York) is a stretch of low lying land between the North Yorkshire Moors and the Hambleton Hills to the east and the Yorkshire Dales to the west. To the north lie the Tees Valley lowlands and to the south the Vale of Mowbray becomes the Vale of York proper.

The Vale of Mowbray is distinguishable from the Vale of York by its meandering rivers and more undulating landscape.

The main characteristic of the vale of Mowbray is the fertile agricultural land used for crops and permanent grassland, though isolated pockets of woodland remain. The roads in the Vale of Mowbray are characteristically contained by low hedges with wide verges. The villages are often linear following the major through road, the houses are generally brick built with pantile roofs.

Robin Hood was a heroic outlaw in English folklore. A highly skilled archer and swordsman, he is known for "robbing from the rich and giving to the poor", assisted by a group of fellow outlaws known as his "Merry Men". Traditionally, Robin Hood and his men are depicted wearing Lincoln green clothes. The origin of the legend is claimed by some to have stemmed from actual outlaws, or from ballads or tales of outlaws.

Robin Hood became a popular folk figure in the medieval period continuing through to modern literature, films and television. In the earliest sources, Robin Hood is a yeoman, but he was often later portrayed as an aristocrat wrongfully dispossessed of his lands and made into an outlaw by an unscrupulous sheriff.

In popular culture, Robin Hood and his band of "merry men" are usually portrayed as living in Sherwood Forest, in Nottinghamshire, where much of the action in the early ballads takes place. So does the very first recorded Robin Hood rhyme, four lines from the early 15th century, beginning: "Robyn hode in scherewode stod." However, the overall picture from the surviving early ballads and other early references suggest that Robin Hood may have been based in the Barnsdale area of what is now South Yorkshire (which borders Nottinghamshire).

Christopher "Chris" Michael Street (February 2, 1972 – January 19, 1993) was a college basketball power forward for the Iowa Hawkeyes. A potential NBA player, he died in an automobile accident during his junior year at Iowa.

Excelling in baseball and football as well, Street moved with his family to Indianola, Iowa in the fall of 1987 and starred on the town's Class 3A team at Indianola High School. Street committed to play basketball at the University of Iowa as a junior in high school.

Street then attended the University of Iowa on a basketball scholarship. Street played in 28 games as a freshman and averaged 5 ppg. As a sophomore, he averaged 10.6 ppg, finished third in the Big Ten Conference in rebounding, and was voted all-conference honorable mention. In the first 15 games of the 1992–93 season Street averaged 14.5 ppg and 9.5 rebounds. In his final game he scored 14 points and collected eight rebounds in an away loss to Duke. It was in that game that he also set a school record by hitting his 33rd and 34th consecutive free throws.
