Sopot
Sopot [ˈsɔpɔt] (Kashubian: Sopòt; German: Zoppot (
listen)) is a seaside resort town in Eastern Pomerania on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea in northern Poland, with a population of approximately 40,000.
Sopot is a town with powiat (county) status, in Pomeranian Voivodeship. Until 1999 it was part of the Gdańsk Voivodeship. It lies between the larger cities of Gdańsk to the southeast and Gdynia to the northwest. The three cities together make up the metropolitan area of Tri-City.
Sopot is a major health-spa and tourist resort destination. It has the longest wooden pier in Europe, at 515.5 metres, stretching out into the Bay of Gdańsk. The city is also famous for its Sopot International Song Festival, the largest such event in Europe after the Eurovision Song Contest. Among its other attractions is a fountain of bromide spring water, known as the "inhalation mushroom".
Etymology
The name is thought to derive from an old Slavic word sopot meaning "stream" or "spring". The same root occurs in a number of other Slavic toponyms; it is probably onomatopeic, imitating the sound of running water - murmur (Šepot). (Today several streams run into the sea in the area of the town.)

Sopot railway station
Sopot is the main passenger railway station in Sopot, Poland.
General information
The station features two platforms, of which one functions as the regional commuter SKM stop. The platforms are accessible through two underpasses, one of which connects both tracks. The ticket offices are open all day long.
Station building
Most of the pre-war station and buildings no longer exist, except for the original platform roofs. The functionalist 1970s ticket building was torn down in 2013 to make way for a complete redevelopment of the entire station and its surrounding area. This development project is currently underway.

Today we’re taking you on a day trip to Sopot, a town whose name we hadn’t heard before visiting Gdańsk. Sopot is a beautiful seaside town that sits on the shores of the Baltic Sea, and it proved to be the perfect little day trip. Come join us as we explore the town, take a boat tour of the harbour, and find out what makes this destination a summer hotspot.
Tickets in hand. That was super easy. We got our tickets they were only 3.80 Zloty. Uh-huh. Yeah. That is less than a Euro so we are not spending much to get there. Ready for our day trip and our train is pulling into the station right now.
We have made it to Sopot. And I think the main attraction here it the pier. Uh huh. Isn't it the largest in Northern Europe? The largest wooden pier in all of Europe. That is the main thing we're going to do here.
So we made it to the pier and we actually had to buy tickets. You have to pay to go walk on the pier which I didn't realize you had to do. So it is 8 Zloty per person. Got our tickets.
At 511.5 meters, this is the longest wooden pier in all of Europe, and it’s the one attraction you can’t miss when you visit Sopot.
And look here. There are swans at the beach.
It is a beautiful beach day, the sun is out, blue skies and we can hear seagulls squawking off in the distance. It is just nice to be at the beach oh my gosh. I can't remember the last time I went to the beach.
Alright, update from Sopot. We came here thinking maybe we'll spend a couple of hours or maybe half a day but we are really liking it here. Really liking it. This is going to be a full day excursion. Yeah, so instead of just putting this in the Gdansk city guide this is going to be its own vlog. Own vlog. Well as you would know already because you would be watching the vlog but anyways we made a decision at this moment just so you know. We like it.
So Sam found us a Pirate Ship. A proper pirate boat.
That means we are ready to set sails. So we made it on the boat like barely. It was leaving within five minutes from us buying the tickets.
And how much was it? Was it thirty five Zloty?
So today is a really nice day to be out on the water. The waters are so calm it looks like glass.
Now we're going to explore a little bit more of the pier. And we've heard rumors of fish pierogi and we're hungry.
The restaurant we had read about online doesn't have fish pierogies. We found it but they don't have it on the menu so maybe they used to at one point but they don't right now.
The good news is that they do have baked pierogi and we've been wanting to try those for a while so we've ordered a whole bunch of like savory ones and sweet ones and we also have soup coming and salad. So it is going to be a really good meal.
So we somehow stumbled on a bodybuilding competition. And everyone looks super tan. Now let's check out the market.
As you may have noticed there are more people sunbathing than there were people swimming and that is because the baltic sea is refreshing.
That was a very busy outing and I think the verdict is we both loved Sopot.

Wcale niemało jest miejscowości w naszym kraju, które cieszą się dużym uznaniem, renomą i popularnością. Są takie miejsca, do których wraca się co rok, mimo tego, że znamy je już na pamięć. Wyśmienitym miastem na odbycie urlopu, wczasów czy też dłuższego weekendu, jest niewątpliwie Sopot, jedno z trzech miast (wraz z Gdynią i Gdańskiem) tworzących ponad milionową aglomerację zwaną Trójmiastem.
Morze w tym miejscu jest stosunkowo ciepłe, gdyż z jednej strony ląd otoczony jest przez wzgórza morenowe, zaś od strony morza występuje, osłaniający Zatokę Gdańską, Półwysep Helski.
Sopot jest wyjątkowym miastem, z piękną zielenią, ślicznymi kamieniczkami i zabytkowymi parkami. Szereg kawiarenek i restauracji urozmaicają turystom wolny czas. Piaszczyste, zadbane plaże, rozciągające się na szerokość 4,5 km, na których każdy znajdzie coś dla siebie, począwszy od pubów z zimnymi napojami po place zabaw dla dzieci, zjeżdżalnie wodne czy wypożyczalnie sprzętu plażowo-wodnego, stanowią atrakcję dla każdego.
To właśnie tu, w Sopocie, znajduje się największe w Europie molo liczące sobie 511,5 metrów długości, na którym spotkać można tłumy spacerujących ludzi, biorących udział w organizowanych tam festynach i zabawach. Molo w Sopocie tętni życiem przez cały letni sezon, tu ludzie gromadzą się, by miło spędzić czas, popatrzeć na krajobraz, a także korzystają z rozrywkowego trybu życia, bo takie niewątpliwe tu ono występuje.
W Sopocie odbywa się również szereg masowych imprez kulturalno- rozrywkowych, na które przybywają tłumy z całej Polski i świata. Sopot Festiwal, Top Trendy, Festiwal Jedynki czy Sopot Film Festiwal to tylko niektóre z imprez ogólnopolskich, jakie tu są organizowane. Mistrzostwa sportowe to również tutaj nie nowość, organizowane są one bowiem w każdym sezonie - w żeglarstwie, windsurfingu czy triatlonie.
Jak widać, w Sopocie jest wiele interesujących miejsc, a do jednego z nich należy też ulica Bohaterów Monte Cassino, czyli najsłynniejszy w kraju deptak, przy którym zlokalizowane są liczne puby i galerie, pojawiają się znienacka ludzie prezentujący swoje umiejętności oraz wystawy i sklepiki z upominkami.
Można tu również podziwiać szereg zabytków, m.in. kościół Zbawiciela, wspomniana już ul. Bohaterów Monte Cassino, latarnia morska, Opera Leśna, w której organizowany jest największy w Polsce Sopot Festiwal, a także Krzywy Domek, cmentarz żydowski czy słynne dla wszystkich Polaków molo.
Sopot to również miasto uzdrowiskowe. Ze względu na stale rosnącą liczbę turystów, wciąż powstają nowe, wielogwiazdkowe hotele i ośrodki wczasowe. Każdy znajdzie coś dla siebie, w zależności od zapotrzebowania i zasobności portfela.
Nie brak również atrakcji sportowych, otóż znajduje się tu rewelacyjny Aquapark, miejsce rozrywki i zabawy dla całej rodziny.

Piaszczyste, zadbane plaże, rozciągające się na szerokość 4,5 km, na których każdy znajdzie coś dla siebie, począwszy od pubów z zimnymi napojami po place zabaw dla dzieci, zjeżdżalnie wodne czy wypożyczalnie sprzętu plażowo-wodnego, stanowią atrakcję dla każdego.
To właśnie tu, w Sopocie, znajduje się największe w Europie molo liczące sobie 511,5 metrów długości, na którym spotkać można tłumy spacerujących ludzi, biorących udział w organizowanych tam festynach i zabawach. Tricity Poland consists of three cities that are very close to each other but at the same time they are very different in character and history - Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot. The cities are located on the shores of the Baltic Sea and are not more than 40 minutes apart.
Let’s start with Gdynia, one of the youngest cities in Poland which was granted city rights only in 1926 and quickly became one of the most important port cities in Poland. Be sure to visit white sandy Gdynia Beach with clean waters. It is a great place for swimming and sunbathing in summer and is accompanied by the restaurants and cafes.
The most romantic walking spot in Gdynia with sensational sea view is 180 m long Orlowo Pier. It was opened during WWI and is equipped with benches.
A perfect place for the families with children is the Aquarium. Its 68 tanks are home to around 250 species of fish, reptiles, or invertebrates. Another must-visit attractions are two impressive vessels: The ORP Błyskawica, the destroyer constructed in 1937 which also took part in the evacuation from Dunkirk and Dar Pomorza - a fully rigged sailing ship built in 1909 which used to serve as a training ship. Both vessels have been converted into museum ships.

An unmissable icon of the city is extraordinary 15th century wooden crane situated over the Moltawa river. It used to be largest port crane in the whole of Europe during the Middle Ages and today it is a part of the Polish Maritime Museum.
Be sure to visit the Royal Way lined all along with quaint historic town houses. You will find here the 14th century Main Town Hall with 83-meter-high clock tower which offers unbelievable views of the city during summer months, or the Neptune`s fountain which is a mannerist-rococo masterpiece built in the early 17th century. It is a symbol of city’s connection with the sea and has become the favorite spot for tourists to pose for a souvenir photo from Gdańsk.

Crkvica sveti Arhangel Gavrilo kod sela Sopot - Pirot
Crkvica je mala, otvorena za putnike namernike. Pored nje je hrast lužnjak star preko 600 godina - Miro drvo. Neki idiot je isekao otvor u stablu verovatno misleći da će naći zlato u šupljini stabla. Prečnik stabla je oko 3 metara! Predivno ! Pired postoji još jedan hrast koji je mlađi ali se veća sada vidi da će biti naslednik starog hrasta!

Prečnik stabla je oko 3 metara! Predivno ! Pired postoji još jedan hrast koji je mlađi ali se veća sada vidi da će biti naslednik starog hrasta!

About Sopot: Sopot station is a railway station on the Gdańsk–Stargard railway and the Gdańsk Śródmieście–Rumia railway. It has 4 platforms. The first two for SKM services from Gdańsk to Gdynia, Reda, Wejherowo, Rumia, etc. The other platforms are for services like PKP Intercity, Polregio, and everything else. How can you spend the perfect day visiting Sopot? Our recommendation would be to to walk along the Sopot pier (Molo w Sopocie), take a boat ride (Pirate ship) and then enjoy hanging out around the main square and market while spending plenty of time at the beach in between ice creams and a leisurely lunch.

Sopot Travel Guide | Day Trip from Gdansk, Poland travel video transcript:
Today we’re taking you on a day trip to Sopot, a town whose name we hadn’t heard before visiting Gdańsk. Sopot is a beautiful seaside town that sits on the shores of the Baltic Sea, and it proved to be the perfect little day trip. Come join us as we explore the town, take a boat tour of the harbour, and find out what makes this destination a summer hotspot.
Tickets in hand. That was super easy. We got our tickets they were only 3.80 Zloty. Uh-huh. Yeah. That is less than a Euro so we are not spending much to get there. Ready for our day trip and our train is pulling into the station right now.
We have made it to Sopot. And I think the main attraction here it the pier. Uh huh. Isn't it the largest in Northern Europe? The largest wooden pier in all of Europe. That is the main thing we're going to do here.
So we made it to the pier and we actually had to buy tickets. You have to pay to go walk on the pier which I didn't realize you had to do. So it is 8 Zloty per person. Got our tickets.
At 511.5 meters, this is the longest wooden pier in all of Europe, and it’s the one attraction you can’t miss when you visit Sopot.
And look here. There are swans at the beach.
It is a beautiful beach day, the sun is out, blue skies and we can hear seagulls squawking off in the distance. It is just nice to be at the beach oh my gosh. I can't remember the last time I went to the beach.
Alright, update from Sopot. We came here thinking maybe we'll spend a couple of hours or maybe half a day but we are really liking it here. Really liking it. This is going to be a full day excursion. Yeah, so instead of just putting this in the Gdansk city guide this is going to be its own vlog. Own vlog. Well as you would know already because you would be watching the vlog but anyways we made a decision at this moment just so you know. We like it.
So Sam found us a Pirate Ship. A proper pirate boat.
That means we are ready to set sails. So we made it on the boat like barely. It was leaving within five minutes from us buying the tickets.
And how much was it? Was it thirty five Zloty?
So today is a really nice day to be out on the water. The waters are so calm it looks like glass.
Now we're going to explore a little bit more of the pier. And we've heard rumors of fish pierogi and we're hungry.
The restaurant we had read about online doesn't have fish pierogies. We found it but they don't have it on the menu so maybe they used to at one point but they don't right now.
The good news is that they do have baked pierogi and we've been wanting to try those for a while so we've ordered a whole bunch of like savory ones and sweet ones and we also have soup coming and salad. So it is going to be a really good meal.
So we somehow stumbled on a bodybuilding competition. And everyone looks super tan. Now let's check out the market.
As you may have noticed there are more people sunbathing than there were people swimming and that is because the baltic sea is refreshing.
That was a very busy outing and I think the verdict is we both loved Sopot.

Wcale niemało jest miejscowości w naszym kraju, które cieszą się dużym uznaniem, renomą i popularnością. Są takie miejsca, do których wraca się co rok, mimo tego, że znamy je już na pamięć. Wyśmienitym miastem na odbycie urlopu, wczasów czy też dłuższego weekendu, jest niewątpliwie Sopot, jedno z trzech miast (wraz z Gdynią i Gdańskiem) tworzących ponad milionową aglomerację zwaną Trójmiastem.
Morze w tym miejscu jest stosunkowo ciepłe, gdyż z jednej strony ląd otoczony jest przez wzgórza morenowe, zaś od strony morza występuje, osłaniający Zatokę Gdańską, Półwysep Helski.
Sopot jest wyjątkowym miastem, z piękną zielenią, ślicznymi kamieniczkami i zabytkowymi parkami. Szereg kawiarenek i restauracji urozmaicają turystom wolny czas. Piaszczyste, zadbane plaże, rozciągające się na szerokość 4,5 km, na których każdy znajdzie coś dla siebie, począwszy od pubów z zimnymi napojami po place zabaw dla dzieci, zjeżdżalnie wodne czy wypożyczalnie sprzętu plażowo-wodnego, stanowią atrakcję dla każdego.
To właśnie tu, w Sopocie, znajduje się największe w Europie molo liczące sobie 511,5 metrów długości, na którym spotkać można tłumy spacerujących ludzi, biorących udział w organizowanych tam festynach i zabawach. Molo w Sopocie tętni życiem przez cały letni sezon, tu ludzie gromadzą się, by miło spędzić czas, popatrzeć na krajobraz, a także korzystają z rozrywkowego trybu życia, bo takie niewątpliwe tu ono występuje.
W Sopocie odbywa się również szereg masowych imprez kulturalno- rozrywkowych, na które przybywają tłumy z całej Polski i świata. Sopot Festiwal, Top Trendy, Festiwal Jedynki czy Sopot Film Festiwal to tylko niektóre z imprez ogólnopolskich, jakie tu są organizowane. Mistrzostwa sportowe to również tutaj nie nowość, organizowane są one bowiem w każdym sezonie - w żeglarstwie, windsurfingu czy triatlonie.
Jak widać, w Sopocie jest wiele interesujących miejsc, a do jednego z nich należy też ulica Bohaterów Monte Cassino, czyli najsłynniejszy w kraju deptak, przy którym zlokalizowane są liczne puby i galerie, pojawiają się znienacka ludzie prezentujący swoje umiejętności oraz wystawy i sklepiki z upominkami.
Można tu również podziwiać szereg zabytków, m.in. kościół Zbawiciela, wspomniana już ul. Bohaterów Monte Cassino, latarnia morska, Opera Leśna, w której organizowany jest największy w Polsce Sopot Festiwal, a także Krzywy Domek, cmentarz żydowski czy słynne dla wszystkich Polaków molo.
Sopot to również miasto uzdrowiskowe. Ze względu na stale rosnącą liczbę turystów, wciąż powstają nowe, wielogwiazdkowe hotele i ośrodki wczasowe. Każdy znajdzie coś dla siebie, w zależności od zapotrzebowania i zasobności portfela.
Nie brak również atrakcji sportowych, otóż znajduje się tu rewelacyjny Aquapark, miejsce rozrywki i zabawy dla całej rodziny.
Sopot to miasto dla ludzi ceniących sobie zabawę i rozrywkę, dla których każda pora dnia i nocy jest dobra na spędzenie czasu wśród rozbawionych i roztańczonych ludzi. To miasto, dla których nuda, spokój i cisza to pojęcia obce i nieznane.

Tricity Poland consists of three cities that are very close to each other but at the same time they are very different in character and history - Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot. The cities are located on the shores of the Baltic Sea and are not more than 40 minutes apart.
Let’s start with Gdynia, one of the youngest cities in Poland which was granted city rights only in 1926 and quickly became one of the most important port cities in Poland. Be sure to visit white sandy Gdynia Beach with clean waters. It is a great place for swimming and sunbathing in summer and is accompanied by the restaurants and cafes.
The most romantic walking spot in Gdynia with sensational sea view is 180 m long Orlowo Pier. It was opened during WWI and is equipped with benches.
A perfect place for the families with children is the Aquarium. Its 68 tanks are home to around 250 species of fish, reptiles, or invertebrates. Another must-visit attractions are two impressive vessels: The ORP Błyskawica, the destroyer constructed in 1937 which also took part in the evacuation from Dunkirk and Dar Pomorza - a fully rigged sailing ship built in 1909 which used to serve as a training ship. Both vessels have been converted into museum ships.
Move to romantic Sopot with endless sandy beaches stretching 4,5 kilometer and impressive architecture. Whether you are walking along the 511-meter-long pier, which is the longest wooden pier in Europe, or wandering along the main promenade with many restaurants, cafes and shops called Monciak, you will fall in love with this city. Visit the popular Crooked House which is the example of bold contemporary architecture and one of the symbols of the city completed in 2004. This 30 m tall structure was built in 1975 as a part of the Hospital and became the Lighthouse 2 years later in 1977. Since then, it has lost its official lighthouse status and today it is open to visitors.
End your journey in medieval port city Gdańsk with a tradition spanning over 1,000 years.
An unmissable icon of the city is extraordinary 15th century wooden crane situated over the Moltawa river. It used to be largest port crane in the whole of Europe during the Middle Ages and today it is a part of the Polish Maritime Museum.
Be sure to visit the Royal Way lined all along with quaint historic town houses. You will find here the 14th century Main Town Hall with 83-meter-high clock tower which offers unbelievable views of the city during summer months, or the Neptune`s fountain which is a mannerist-rococo masterpiece built in the early 17th century. It is a symbol of city’s connection with the sea and has become the favorite spot for tourists to pose for a souvenir photo from Gdańsk.

Sopot
Sopot [ˈsɔpɔt] (Kashubian: Sopòt; German: Zoppot ( listen)) is a seaside resort town in Eastern Pomerania on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea in northern Poland, with a population of approximately 40,000.
Sopot is a town with powiat (county) status, in Pomeranian Voivodeship. Until 1999 it was part of the Gdańsk Voivodeship. It lies between the larger cities of Gdańsk to the southeast and Gdynia to the northwest. The three cities together make up the metropolitan area of Tri-City.
Sopot is a major health-spa and tourist resort destination. It has the longest wooden pier in Europe, at 515.5 metres, stretching out into the Bay of Gdańsk. The city is also famous for its Sopot International Song Festival, the largest such event in Europe after the Eurovision Song Contest. Among its other attractions is a fountain of bromide spring water, known as the "inhalation mushroom".
Etymology
The name is thought to derive from an old Slavic word sopot meaning "stream" or "spring". The same root occurs in a number of other Slavic toponyms; it is probably onomatopeic, imitating the sound of running water - murmur (Šepot). (Today several streams run into the sea in the area of the town.)

This is an easy day trip from Gdansk and definitely worthwhile. It's not called Poland's Riviera for a reason. Sopot is a popular seaside resort town located on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea in Eastern Pomerania of northern Poland. It's also home to Europe's longest wooden pier.

About Sopot:
Sopot station is a railway station on the Gdańsk–Stargard railway and the Gdańsk Śródmieście–Rumia railway. It has 4 platforms. The first two for SKM services from Gdańsk to Gdynia, Reda, Wejherowo, Rumia, etc. The other platforms are for services like PKP Intercity, Polregio, and everything else. Sopot station opened in 1870 (yes a big surprise), and at the time it was Prussian. In 1884, the station saw 134,709, in 1925, that was up 11x with 1,522,672 passengers.
