Culture - Addis Ababa (Official Video)
STREAM + ADD ► https://orcd.co/culturechantingon
"Chanting On" is an impressive compilation drawn from several critically acclaimed Culture albums spanning the 80's and 90's as well as earlier roots material.
Culture is reggae’s preeminent harmony group. Born in the 70′s golden age of reggae, the ever viable Culture garnered continual US and international acclaim for its long series of classic “roots” albums. Culture’s legendary “Two Sevens Clash” (Shanachie) was Reggae Album of the Year in 1977 and is acknowledged today by Rolling Stone Magazine (April 11, 2002) as #25 of the 50 all time coolest records (the only reggae album to make the list).

ONE STONE
Hold not Thy peace oh God of my salvation
Because the mouth of the wicked and deceitful is open
Rastaman throw one big stone
And it brings a bad feeling to all wicked men
Natty man throw one stone
And it bring a bad feeling to all wicked men
Only when man like Marcus Garvey speak
Wicked men would ah hear
Instead of that they only sit and and rob and cheat
And oppress the poor
Nyabinghi throw one stone
And it bring a bad feeling to all wicked men
Binghiman throw one stone
And it bring a bad feeling to all wicked men
If Rasta make a progressive move
Wicked men a red eye
All they want to see
The days when they can send out Rasta
Can't bend I out, I send out Babylon
Binghiman throw one stone
And it bring a bad feeling to all wicked men
Things change, the table is turned
And you'll have to live, and live and learn
President Mandela was in prison
For twenty add years
And he leave from the prison
And take the seat of the president
Stone one
Binghiman we throw one stone
And it bring a bad feeling in a Africa
Binghiman we throw one stone
And it bring a bad feeling in a European land
He have eyes to see let them see
He who have ears to hear, let them hear
What the prophet of the land say
Truthful, one throw one stone
And it bring a bad feeling to all wicked man

RIVERSIDE
Where is the love to be found, oh People? Nowhere around
For I woke on Saturday morning
Feeling sticky and dirty after work
Took a walk down a Riverside
I roll a little spliff
Sat down a stone and start to cool off
With my burden down the Riverside
For I check around the youth
And I try to teach the truth
Chorus:
Lay their burden on the Riverside
I walk through every corner
Try to find someone to talk to but I have to
/chorus/
For I walk and I talk
And I linger and I search
/chorus/
And I walk , I met the youthman Pocket
And I try to search around them
/chorus/
And I sat down quietly, Watch the fishes circle around the little stones
/chorus/
I cup my ears and I heard the little birds whistling in the tree likee so
/chorus/
Live good among your neighbor like sister and brother and come with me a Riverside
All you need is pray to Jah, quietly
You see secret shall be revealed
/chorus/
Jah provides for the birds in the air and the fishes in the sea so what about me
/chorus/
Look at the crow they toil not neither do they spin
Yet father provide for them
/chorus/
Let uss walk and talk and pray quietly in search
/chorus/
Look at the color of those clothes, oh Jah
Make each and every one individually
/chorus/
Where is the love? Where is the togetherness too?
/chorus/
I can't take the war and I can't take the shooting
Neither the looting, just
/chorus/
I tried around Rema, even in The Jungle
To find a quiet rest
Round there in a Nannyville, my heart come to a trail
/chorus/
And I Knock, and I search, and I whisper and I preach
/chorus/
Where is the quietness and the love to be found in some corner?
/chorus/
Let us walk, let us search, let us examine and let us see

Iran: History, Geography, Economy & Culture
This is the story of Iran, once known as Persia. In this video, I explore the long history of Iran through to the controversial present, the diverse geography of Iran of deserts and mountains, the surprisingly complex Iranian Economy and the remarkably rich Iranian culture that has influenced the world in so many ways.
A history as old and rich as any, it has endured the battering of invasions and competing influences over millennia, to survive until the present day. This is the country that spawned the world’s first great empire, the Achaemenid Empire, and despite defeat at the hands of the Macedonian Greeks under Alexander, rose again under the Parthian Empire and Sassanid Empire. It was conquered by Muslim Arabs in the 7th Century AD, and over the next 200 years the original population...

Mandala Art series : Episode 1(disambiguation)
In New Age, the mandala is a diagram, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically; a time-microcosm of the universe, but it originally meant to represent wholeness and a model for the organizational structure of life itself, a cosmic diagram that shows the relation to the infinite and the world that extends beyond and within minds and bodies.

Thursday Bram
https://2018.northbaypython.org/schedule/presentation/15/
This talk covers key issues Python programmers run into when naming new projects. We'll go over the following:
* Commonly used naming schemas in the Python community
* Current and past project names (including those that many newcomers to Python struggle with)
* Techniques to avoid similar confusion in the future (covering both name selection and documentation)
We'll even talk about Monty Python and its long-term impact on the Python programming language.
A Python conference north of the Golden Gate
North Bay Python is a single-track conference with a carefully curated set of talks representing the diverse Python community and their different areas of interest.
If a topic is less to your interest, or you've met some people you really want to sit down and chat with, we'll have plenty of areas away from the main theatre to catch up and chat.
Our goal is to keep prices as low as possible. That means we won't be catering lunch. Instead, you can look forward to extra-long lunch breaks you can use to explore all of the great food options around the venue.

It was conquered by Muslim Arabs in the 7th Century AD, and over the next 200 years the original population that practiced the home-grown religion of Zoroastrianism was converted to Islam.
During the Golden Age of Islam it became a hotbed of artistic and scientific genius, and the Iranian language, Farsi, was beautiful written down by such poets as Ferdowsi in the epic piece of Persian Poetry, the Shahnameh (Book of Kings). In later centuries, Iran struggled on, maintaining its independence under the Safavids and The Qajar Dynasty, before coming under the influence of Russia and Great Britain in the Great Game of the 19th Century.
The discovery of Iranian Oil marked further influence by Western Powers, who later installed Shah Mohammed Reza ("The Shah"), whose rule turned corrupt and autocratic. He was finally deposed in the 1979 Iranian Revolution by Ayatollah Khomeini and the Islamic Republic of Iran was born. But this further continued troubles for the country, as it became internationally isolated over the Iran Nuclear Program and Iran's promise to destroy the State of Israel.
The geography of Iran comprises mostly mountains and deserts, and yet nonetheless houses a surprisingly large population of 80 million, who are mostly ethnic Persians with Azeris making up the largest minority.
Iranian culture has influenced the world with many words from the Persian language, Farsi, finding their way into English and other European languages. The games of chess and backgammon either emerged from, or were heavily shaped by Persia. And Persian carpets are regarded as the finest in the world, in a tradition that goes back millenia.

About LATINO POETRY: PLACES WE CALL HOME
For nearly five centuries, the rich tapestry of Latino poetry has been woven from a wealth of languages and cultures. With distinctive rhythms, lyricism, and candor, and nuanced understandings of place, history, and origin, Latino poets have brought dazzling insight to what it means to make a home in America.
Places We Call Home seeks to foster nationwide conversation on this vital literature through a groundbreaking new anthology edited by Rigoberto González, events around the country, an online media archive, and a wealth of library resources meant to spur in-depth reflection and discussion on key figures and themes.
Funded with generous support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Places We Call Home is directed by Library of America and presented in partnership with the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures; the Academy of American Poets; Cave Canem; Poetry Society of America; and the National Book Foundation, among others.

Azmari: An Ethiopian musician | Africa Direct Documentary
Yoseph Gedefaw is an Azmari, a traditional musician and singer of song-stories, who lives in Birbuax, Gondar in Ethiopia.

Professor Ryan Matzinger, a grammy winning artist and instructor at Montana State University, discusses the history of race and the national view of historical racism through the lenses of musical performance and analyses. Appearing and performing as "Ryan Montana," a singer-songwriter, jazz saxophonist, recording artist, internationally touring musician, and record producer, Ryan was born and raised in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Bozeman. After recording and touring based out of Southern California for 11 years, he has been back in Bozeman for the last 8 years teaching saxophone and jazz at MSU. Through journeys with industry stars, and studies with music legends, Ryan has developed as a contemporary indie artist belonging to the growing community of studied, genre melding, multi-faceted performers that are taking music back to its collective roots while exploring and researching the art form of Jazz and its connection to the cultural history, political evolution, and sociological condition of America. As one of the last remaining members of the iconic rock group Ike Turner and The Kings of Rhythm, he was a featured soloist and horn section leader on the Grammy Award winning 2007 ablum, Risin' With the Blues.
He moved to California in 2000 to serve as the Artist Community Director for MP3.com after studying Jazz Performance and African History at The Hartt School under Blue Note Records master saxophonist Jackie McLean, and apprenticed alongside bassist Nat Reeves (Kenny Garrett, Pharoah Sanders); then studied Music Performance and Cultural Anthropology at Duke University under saxophone colossus Sonny Rollins and jazz legend Paul Jeffrey (Thelonious Monk). After doing short stints and performances with music legends Chuck Berry and Ray Charles, Ryan has been an active teacher, studio musician and live performer world-wide, playing in over 50 countries as the alto saxophonist and horn section leader for the late Ike Turner, and remains an active member of the historically iconic band "The Kings of Rhythm," credited with recording and producing the very first Rock and Roll song ever, "Rocket 88," in 1951.
While at Duke, he lead and arranged music for the award winning Duke University Concert Jazz Ensemble, and has also appeared and taught at numerous international festivals and workshops including The Stanford Jazz Workshop, The North Carolina International Jazz Festival, Jazz Montana and Hatch Festivals, Aspen Jazz /Snowmass Festival sponsored by the Thelonious Monk Institute, Acqui Terme Jazz Festival, Vienne Jazz Festival, Kansas City Barbeque and Blues Festival, Bordeux 24 Hours of Music Festival, Alicante Jazz Festival, Rauma Blues Festival, Santa Blues Festival, Gexto Jazz Festival, the Conservatory of Monaco, Trasimeno Blues Festival, The Legendary Blues Cruise and many more. He has appeared on multiple recording projects as a sideman, co-writer and producer/engineer, and has recorded several albums as a leader on SOTA Records. "A Dance Called Life," was produced by the famed Big Mountain founder, Quino McWhinney; and was mastered by the legendary Bernie Grundman in Hollywood, CA. Ryan Montana and The Ten O'clock Scholars release "Electric Picture Show," garnered national attention and charted on several independent radio stations internationally.
He was awarded with "Jazz Artist of the Year" honors in the 2004 Los Angeles Music Awards. His latest studio time and production work has been with the acclaimed singer-songwriter Earl Thomas which recorded and broadcast a live show from London on BBC radio, and with a new artist collective called "JAAMA," which features Senegalese artists and the likes of Tanmoy Bose, Pandit Ravi Shankar's Tabla player; and Paul Smith who toured and recorded with Natalie Cole and Bill Withers. As the newly tenured Jazz Professor at Montana State University, Ryan is currently pursuing and continuing his performing, teaching and recording career after recently completing a Masters degree in American Studies, while researching the links between Native American music and early jazz, Black Studies, and writing and researching the jazz tradition and how that unique narrative directly relates to American culture and history. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

I am from the island of Hawaiʻi. Raised on family ʻāina that was given to my great great grandfather through a Royal Patent Land Grant in 1850. I am the 5th generation to be raised on family land with all of our kupuna, including my parents, buried on the property. My father was a manaleo, native Hawaiian speaker and chose not to teach me ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi as he reflected on his time of being punished in school for speaking Hawaiian. Growing up, I intently watched and learned from my parents. My mother, a nurse, loved working with adults with mental illness who needed someone in their lives to see them through their issues - she used the art of inclusion to build their purpose in life. My fatherʻs knew how to deal in a western space at the same time being true to his ancestral knowledge and protective of all things Hawaiian - kind yet a force to reckon with.
These features led me to do what I am doing today in a heavily cultivated western non-Hawaiian space.
I have a kuleana that requires me to mālama with aloha with an end goal of pono.
Iʻve been a musician in Waikīkī for 3 decades, recorded several recordings, garnered several awards for music and a couple for community engagement. I worked at a non-profit organization for near;y 20 years serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Iʻve been at the Hyatt Regency for 7 years as their Director of Hawaiian Culture and Community Relations. Along with some friends we created a small community organization called The Hawaiian Music Perpetuation Society - preserve, promote, perpetuate Mele Hawaiʻi.
