Do You Speak English? -Yes, Sure
The guys from Russia exceeded the speed limit and decided to speak in English with a Ukrainian policeman. They were sure that he does not understand English and just let go and they will not have to pay a fine. But ... 0:00 - Cops! Look ... - Ohhh, come on. Are you kidding me? 0:04 - What do they want from us? - OK... I've exceeded the speed limit, so what? - Crap! Why? We are in a foreign country... 0:10 - Oh come on... Let's trick him in English, you know they are dumb. - Wow, right! Talk to him in English, yeah? 0:16 - Ok, just don't giggle! - I won't! And you try not to! 0:29 - Road Police Sergeant Kolomiets. Please show your IDs. 0:36 - IDs! IDs! IDs! Do you understand me? IDs! 0:45 - STOP! One moment! 0:54 -- Good day! Road Police Senior Inspector Kucher 1:57 - Okay, let's issue you some tickets... Ukraine's Forgotten Children
Ten times as many children are in institutional care in Ukraine as in England. In this disturbing investigation, film-maker Kate Blewett finds out what a lifetime in the care of the state really means for Ukraine's forgotten children. Shot over six months in an institute for disabled and abandoned children, the film takes us inside the lives of a handful of children who were abandoned by their parents - with a simple signature - to state care. The institute houses 126 children, of whom all but four still have living parents. The vast majority are what are called 'social orphans' in Ukraine, signed over to institutional care in a society that still clings to the Soviet-era ideal that the state knows best. But what Kate finds is that children of widely varying abilities are warehoused together, leading inevitably to institutionalisation, repetitive behaviour, self-stimulation and self-harm, even amongst those with very minor disabilities. Lyosha is ten, and has no arms and legs. But with a fighting spirit and lively intelligence, he uses his balance and powerful neck muscles to propel himself around the room, along corridors and even up and down stairs, almost as quickly as those around him with four limbs. He is proud of the fact that he makes his own bed every morning, and will not allow carers to help him do so. Lyosha is just one of a group of boys for whom Nikolai, the institute director, has great ambitions. Nikolai has seen too many of the children he has cared for ...

Some people say her self-portraits look photoshopped. Valeria is beginning to find fans in France and elsewhere in Europe. On her blog, Valeria talks about the music she makes. Mass fight between MPs breaks out in Ukraine's parliament
Deputies from opposition and pro-government parties blocked the first session of Ukraine's parliament on Wednesday (Decemebr 12) after numerous fights erupted in the parliament chamber. Scuffles erupted when members of several parties approached the stand simultaneously and attempted to push each other out of the way. At one moment a majority of those gathered in the parliament chamber stood up and joined in. Deputies could be seen pulling each other by their clothes, pushing and shoving. A few members of parliament attempted to climb into the parliament speaker's stand and were being pushed off by others. World heavyweight boxing champion Vitaly Klitschko, who heads the UDAR (Punch) party, chose to look on and did not join into the brawl. Wednesday's session of the parliament was to be the first test of the cohesion of political forces underpinning Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich with an expected vote on the nomination of Mykola Azarov for prime minister, but it was marred by protest from the start. Racist Remarks: 'What if they think Ukraine's in Africa'
An estimated 100 million people worldwide will be tuning in for the Eurovision Song Contest this Saturday night. But one country has been divided by the competition, or rather its own entry. Many in Ukraine are unhappy that the singer representing the nation is only half-Ukrainian, exposing what others fear is a spread of racism. RT's Aleksey Yaroshevsky reports. BBC World News: Ukraine parliament fight 0020 25 May 2012
Opposition politicians in Ukraine are demanding an investigation into why a session of parliament descended, basically, into a big fist-fight. Members of the Rada were debating a bill that would give the Russian language equal status to Ukrainian in some parts of the country. As Jonathan Josephs reports, it could hardly come at a worst time.

Tropisms > Chernobyl > Lost Souls
This place easily captures ones imagination.
In the dead zone we didn’t encounter eight-legged frogs, giant grown trees or mutant children. But the breathtaking silence was more we could have ever imagined for. It’s hard nót to make a fantasy out of this place.
Back home in Holland there was some extensive and outraged media coverage about the Ukrainian Government turning Chernobyl and its post-nuclear landscape into a hotspot for tourism. Having been there we know this was of course complete nonsense. In Kiev it was almost a mission impossible to find a travel-agency who could help us get into the restricted zone around Chernobyl.

Ukraine's new parliament opens with a brawl
www.euronews.com The first session of Ukraine's new parliament saw politicians from opposition and ruling parties fighting and climbing over each other to be able to approach the speaker's stand. Then two opposition politicians, suspected of being about to defect to the Government, were pushed from the hall. Father and Son Oleksandr Tabalov and Andrei Tabalov were prevented from taking the MPs' oath. They are accused of letting down voters. MP Arseniy Yatsenukn from the 'Batkivshchyna' or 'Battle' party said: "It was not a fight. These people are betrayers, they swore on the Bible, they gave an oath to the Ukrainian people that they will stay with the opposition faction, but they didn't." MP Vladyslav Lukyanov from the ruling 'Party of Regions' disagrees: "We've already seen some MPs working in different parties and then leaving them for another or becoming independent candidates. There should not be any kind of political slavery." As the session began around 100 people gathered for an anti-fascist demonstration outside the parliament building. Members of the feminist group FEMEN tried to break into parliament to protest about government corruption. The fighting and protests threaten to push back Wednesday's vote to endorse Mykola Azarov for a new term as prime minister. Find us on: Youtube bit.ly Facebook www.facebook.com Twitter twitter.com

Ukraine parliament to resume session after brawl
www.euronews.com Ukraine's parliament will try again on Thursday to choose a prime minister after the previous day's attempt was abandoned amid raucous scenes more reminiscent of crowd trouble at a football match. The vote on Mykola Azarov's nomination for a second term will be an early test of support for President Yanokovich. Boxing champion Vitaly Klitschko, leader of the UDAR or Punch party, looked on from outside the ring as politicians from opposition and ruling parties scrapped around the speaker's rostrum. Two elected deputies - a father and son - were prevented from taking the oath and physically thrown out after the opposition accused them of defecting to the ruling coalition. Outside parliament, deputies from the Svoboda far-right nationalists took advantage of parliamentary immunity. Police looked on as they cut down part of a perimeter fence and broke down a door in protest at what they see as parliament's alienation from the people. Meanwhile naked feminists from the group FEMEN tried to break into the building, in a demonstration against government corruption. The protest by deputies from the Batkivshchyna (Fatherland) block was tame by comparison. They appeared in the chamber wearing black sweaters bearing the portrait of former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko, their jailed leader. Thursday's parliamentary proceedings promise to be interesting. Find us on: Youtube bit.ly Facebook www.facebook.com Twitter twitter.com
