Coptic Church Bans Travel to Israel: Coptic Christians Blamed for Jerusalem Pilgrimage on Easter
As Coptic Christian pilgrims returned to Egypt from Jerusalem following Easter ceremonies, the Coptic Church leadership reminded them they are not allowed to travel to the Holy City. Coptic Pope Shenouda had ordered members of the Egyptian church not to visit Jerusalem while it is occupied by Israel, but after his death last month, many Copts made the Easter pilgrimage this year. Bishop Bakhomious, who has led the church since Shenouda's death, stated that the travel ban is still in effect and added that it was not a personal decision by Pope Shenouda, but instead a resolution that was passed by the church's Holy Synod, the body charged with setting the church's rules and regulations.

From Ararat to Zion
The colorful mosaic of Christian pilgrimages to the Holy Land has been shaped over two thousand years. Pilgrims have brought their stories with them, and left their memories with the land. Here the documentary filmmakers have given us a view of some essential passages in these stories, to reveal the precious identities which the stories preserve. They follow the paths taken by Armenian pilgrims as they travel between to focal points of history from the Mount Ararat to Zion, from A to Z. For the filmmakers themselves, the process of making this film became a pilgrimage they will remember throughout their lives. They personally experiences the perils of the journeys made so long ago by pilgrims who called themselves those who witnessed death. The documentary communicates the spirit of pilgrimage which has nurtured and sustained the sanctuaries and monasteries of the Holy Land over the centuries. At the cost of immeasurable sacrifices and immense exertions, pilgrims have come to the Holy Shrines to witness the earthly presence of God. The viewer sees the Holy Shrines through the pilgrims eyes. Though they may have been put on display many times before, these special places emerge anew in the film, revealing their otherworldly essence and life-transforming power. The film shows such striking scenes as the Holy Sepulcher by night, the colorful spectacles of Easter in Jerusalem, the Ceremony of Holy Light, Mount Sinai in Egypt, the Monasteries of the Judean Desert, the summit ...

Evangelical Christians celebrate Feast of Tabernacles in Israel
Thousands of Evangelical Christians have arrived in Israel from all over the world for the 32 annual Feast of Tabernacles Succot celebrations. The International Christian Embassy Jerusalem has brought over more than 6000 Christian pilgrims from over 80 countries and five continents -- including Brazil, China, Finland, Gabon and the US, and will be in the country for six days of festivities and touring activities. In addition to the ICEJ pilgrimage, a separate mission of 3000 Christians were brought to Israel from a dozen countries by the Manmin Central Church of South Korea. The pilgrims gathered in Haifa on Saturday for a prayer rally where they prayed for peace and the safe return of Gilad Schalit. Also in attendance were 3000 Messianic Jews from around Israel. The festival of Succot has become a notable date in the evangelical calendar "because of the universalism inherent in the holiday," explains the organization's Spokesman David Parsons. "In King Soloman's Temple, 70 sacrifices were made during Succot on behalf of the 70 nations of the world and gentiles were welcomed to come to the Temple to pray to God. The opening gala event was held on Thursday night at Jerusalem's Binyanei Ha'uma conference center, and the pilgrims spent Saturday at the Dead Sea.

A Pilgrim's Way [Orthodox Documentary] Part 1/8
'A Pilgrim's Way: A Search in Sacred Romania' (PART 1 / 8) A film by Mironel de Wilde SYNOPSIS: 'On a journey in search of faith and the truth of my heart, I go on a pilgrimage from Canada to Romania, Eastern Europe, to visit the world of Orthodox Christianity, to ask questions about the roots of our religious and philosophical heritage and find out if Christianity still has a living spiritual dimension. The journey takes me to Bucharest to meet people with spiritual insights into the meaning of Christ's teachings. I go to Putna Monastery, near the Ukrainian border for immersion into monastic life, then on to visit some of the greatest elders of the church and I hear first hand where the Christian path can lead me.' ABU MENA A Christian Monument Egypt
In Egypt, near Lake Mariout, is the most respected Christian pilgrimage destination of Abu Mena. Today, only its ruins remain. For more than 1700 years, the Kopts worshipped the holy martyr, Menas of Alexandria and in his honor, a Christian monastery was established here during the 3rd century. Due to the construction of several canals and also the distribution of water from the River Nile, the region is gradually being transformed into fertile agricultural land. However, Egypt's water supply system threatens to destroy the ruins of this historic sand-covered pilgrimage site. On the excavation site, the finely crafted stone reliefs of Abu Mena's submerged architecture offer a titillating promise of what lies beneath. Once a small town, today only a tranquil expanse of ruins and eroded walls are evidence of this once flourishing and lively centre for the pilgrims of early Christianity. The foundations and dimensions of its churches can still be discerned today. Should the ruins of this ancient place of pilgrimage be allowed to sink beneath the desert forever, the loss of this unique early Christian monument would be inestimable.
