Ashley Nichols, Junior majoring in Political Science & Spanish from Mobile, Alabama. Qualifications: SGA Senate, Academic Affairs Committee Chairman, SGA Cabinet, Director of the Beat Bama Food Drive, Lobby Board, University Advising Council, Student Library Advisory Board. Ashley's Platform: Auburn University is a unique institution distinguished by its values, traditions and potential for progress. While its students are diverse and have many talents, they are unified by a unique spirit. I believe that those elected to serve the student body at Auburn must recognize both the potential and needs of the students while dedicating themselves to pursuing progress that is in their best interest. It is my priority to improve key aspects of student life by pursuing the following: Academic Advising and Resources: #1. Encourage professors to post syllabi online for all students to view. The ability to view current or previous syllabi before registering for classes will enable students to enhance their academic experience by selecting courses with content and structure applicable to their preferences and interests. #2 Continue to work with administration and faculty members toward having mid term grades posted on AU Access. Student Expenditures: #1. Work toward the institution of a textbook checkout program at the library to alleviate the burden placed on individual students by the increasing costs of required textbooks and tuition. #2. Ensure close and constant attention to issues related to funding provided by the State of Alabama and communicate a student perspective on this issue to the state legislature Student Life: #1. Provide additional computers, printers and wireless printing capabilities for student use in the AU Student Center #2. Encourage the university to allow students to park in A and B zones on campus at 4:45 without penalties. #3. Continue to improve and sustain the newly developed Toomer’s Ten transit system and address student comments concerning the program. Senate Accessibility: #1. Post all proposed bills and resolutions on the SGA website for student edification. #2. Allow students to submit comments directly to student government officers on the SGA website. While serving as a member of both the SGA Cabinet and the SGA Senate I have acquired the experience necessary to continue the ongoing projects of the student government while pursing new solutions to problems that students face. It is my passion to ensure the improvement of your academic resources, your safety on and around campus, and to communicate your needs and perspective to the Auburn administration. Setting these projects as priorities in the upcoming year will allow the SGA to continue to raise the bar for each of these important aspects of student life and guarantee that your interests are the primary focus of the officers of the student government.
