Passing Strange Broadway Rehearsal & Interviews
www.theatermania.com Of all the musicals hitting Broadway this season, none have stirred the excitement and curiosity of Passing Strange, which hits the Great White Way on February 8 after a four-year developmental process, including productions at Berkeley Rep and the Public Theatre. The autobiographical, semi-narrated piece tells the story of Youth (played by the electrifying Daniel Breaker) who travels from LA to Amsterdam, Berlin, and back home again in search of his personal and musical identity. At a recent press event, TheaterMania got a sneak preview at some of the show's musical numbers and spoke with co-creators Stew, Heidi Rodewald, and Annie Dorsen, as well as Public Theater artistic director Oskar Eustis, about this sure-to-be-talked-about musical.

The Christmas Chord || Spoken word on Christmas
#christmaschord (spoken word) www.goingpublic.org.uk Ever taken the time to think through what Christmas is all about? Beyond turkey with stuffing balls and cranberry sauce, beyond party hats and cracker 'jokes', beyond pine needles and cracked chestnuts...what is the one cord which holds Christmas together? Since being inspired by spoken word, (such as jesus v religion by jeffersonbethke), I wanted to create something which looked at the meaning of Christmas in a new way. This is a spoken word piece about the first Christmas story and it is a gift to watch, share, enjoy and be reminded - of the true meaning of Christmas. AMC Mainstreet Theater Tour (Downtown Kansas City)
AMC invited local bloggers to come preview their new theater in Downtown Kansas City. AMC Mainstreet, the theater, orginally opened in 1921, but now has been renovated and upgraded (to say the least). They gave me access to the new theater and I willingly decided to shoot a vBlog to give everyone a preview before its open to the public. Check out my video blog for a complete tour of the place, its not your typical movie theater. I also snapped a few photos with my camera which you can view on my flickr account. Here is the quick bottom-line about the new theater in my opinion: * Truthfully the food (that you order in the movie theater) isnt amazing. Its like bar food — not gourmet. * In my opinion, the audio setup, screen-size and seating comfort justifies the higher price you pay to watch a movie. * The seats all have speakers in them that rumble when action scenes appear in the movie. Cheesy as that may sound, when I watched a movie there it was freakin cool to watch actions scenes with your seat shaking. * You can order beer and they bring it to you = cool * Youre able to reserve specific seats online or by phone so you dont have to show up extra early to get a good spot. ramseymohsen.com

Caldara - Crucifixus a 16 voci
ANTONIO CALDARA (c.1670 - 1736) "Crucifixus" for 16 voices Performed by the Balthasar-Neumann-Chor and Ensemble Directed by Thomas Hengelbrock *Antonio Caldara was an Italian Baroque composer. Caldara was born in Venice (exact date unknown), the son of a violinist. He became a chorister at St Mark's in Venice, where he learned several instruments, probably under the instruction of Giovanni Legrenzi. In 1699 he relocated to Mantua, where he became maestro di cappella to the inept Charles IV, Duke of Mantua, a pensionary of France with a French wife, who took the French side in the War of the Spanish Succession. Caldara removed from Mantua in 1707, after the French were expelled from Italy, then moved on to Barcelona as chamber composer to Charles VI of Austria, the pretender to the Spanish throne who kept a royal court at Barcelona. There, he wrote some operas that are the first Italian operas performed at Spain. He moved on to Rome, becoming maestro di cappella to Francesco Maria Marescotti Ruspoli, 1st Prince of Cerveteri. While there he wrote "La constanza in amor vince l'inganno" (Faithfulness in Love Defeats Treachery) for the public theatre at Macerata. In 1716, he obtained a similar post in Vienna to serve the Imperial Court, and there he remained until his death. Caldara is best known as a composer of operas, cantatas and oratorios. Several of his works have libretti by Metastasio.

Birdemic: Shock And Terror Official Theatrical Trailer
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TIM AND ERIC TO HOST WORLD PREMIERE OF ‘BIRDEMIC: SHOCK AND TERROR’
ON FEBRUARY 27TH IN LOS ANGELES
Severin Films Partners with The Cinefamily to
Debut James Nguyen’s ‘Romantic Thriller’
LOS ANGELES, CA, February 10, 2010 – Severin Films (http://www.severin-films.com/) today announced that Tim and Eric, creators and stars of Adult Swim sketch comedy show Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, will host the highly-anticipated world premiere of BIRDEMIC: SHOCK AND TERROR (www.birdemic.com), on February 27th at The Cinefamily in Los Angeles, California. Following the screening, Tim and Eric will lead a Q&A; with writer/producer/director James Nguyen and stars Alan Bagh and Whitney Moore. Severin is working on transforming the theater into a temporary aviary with epic displays of BIRDEMIC special effects, props and costumes that will put the Smithsonian to shame. An EPK video for BIRDEMIC can be viewed at http://vimeo.com/9082600. Fans can connect with BIRDEMIC on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/birdemic), Twitter (http://twitter.com/birdemic) and the Web (www.birdemic.com).
“Finally, Birdemic will have its proper and much-deserved debut,” said Carl Daft, CEO and co-founder of Severin Films. “Modern comedy legends, Tim and Eric, are beyond generous to host Severin’s world premiere of the film—we can’t think of a more fitting introduction to this night of groundbreaking cinema.”
BIRDEMIC, described by Nguyen as “a romantic thriller,” is a horror/action/special-effects-driven love story about a young couple trapped in a small Northern California town under siege by homicidal birds. BIRDEMIC also tackles topical issues of global warming, avian flu, world peace, organic living, sexual promiscuity and lavatory access.
Nguyen, a 42-year-old Vietnamese refugee, wrote, cast and shot the film over the course of four years using salary from his day job as a mid-level software salesman in Silicon Valley. The film pays homage to Hitchcock’s THE BIRDS via location shooting in Mission Bay, California, as well as an appearance by star of THE BIRDS Tippi Hedren (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tippi_Hedren). When rejected for an official screening slot at Sundance, Nguyen spent eight days driving up and down the festival’s nearby streets in a van covered with fake birds, frozen blood and BIRDEMIC posters, while loudspeakers blared the sounds of eagle attacks and human screams. The tactic caught the attention of festival organizers, filmgoers and local police, as well as executives from Severin Films. Severin’s executives walked into a screening, took one look at Nguyen’s masterwork, and immediately locked up BIRDEMIC’s worldwide rights for the next twenty years. Discussions are currently underway for Severin to add an additional thirty years to the initial agreement.

SILENCE OF DEATH directed by Mani Nasry (16MM FILM) 1ST YEAR RYERSON UNIVERSITY STUDENT FILM
IMDB PAGE
www.imdb.me/maninasry
This Scene expresses- FEAR- noun: an emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger (usually accompanied by a desire to flee or fight). noun: a feeling of anxiety and agitation caused by the presence or nearness of danger, evil, pain, etc.; timidity; dread; terror; fright; apprehension. Terrify not your soul with vain imaginary fears. By realizing that you are the one feeding the fire, you can start to take control of your fears. Panic is a vicious cycle that can be broken. When you start to have irrational fears you need to take action quick. Eleanor Roosevelt once said: "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing, which you think you cannot do." We must stop running away from things that frighten us, face our fears head on, and do the thing we fear the most. Most of the time we'll find out that the "thing" was not that scary after all. Our imaginations had behaved like a super fertilizer and grown a grotesque monstrosity in our minds. Remember, our imaginations are incredibly powerful. They can work against us, creating horrible images that leave us paralyzed with fear and they can also work for us, building a world where everything we do is an adventure, a miracle. And the most amazing thing is that we hold the power to control our minds - we allow fear to dominate our lives or we choose to dominate fear. Those are our only two choices.

Sprint "The Dream" - Making Of Documentary
This 'making of' documentary shows how the "Dream" was created. Artisan (part of UVA) used d3 for their content mapping so they could see exactly what the camera filming the sequence would capture. Using perspective projection amongst other techniques, "The Dream" is a perfect project to show what d3 can do.
From the official press release by Leo Burnett (23 May 2012):
If your phone could truly “sleep,” what would it dream? A new interactive on-screen cinema experience created by Sprintin partnership with “Team Sprint” – integrated brand agency Digitas and ad agency Leo Burnett – encourages moviegoers to turn off their mobile device in exchange for a custom mobile phone “dream.” More than 1,000 NCM Movie Theaters will show the experience on nearly 18,000 screens as part of Sprint’s courtesy-message sponsorship that asks moviegoers to turn off their phones prior to the start of a movie.
At the outset of the user’s movie theater experience, Sprint’s 40-second Public Service Announcement (PSA) directs people to text the word “dream” to 60602 before putting their mobile phone to sleep (turning off the device). Once the mobile is awakened after the movie, users will find a text prompt asking them to opt-in via Facebook. After opting-in, users are rewarded with a personalized 15-second video clip capturing what the device has been “dreaming” while it was ”sleeping.” “Many have created on-screen cinema spots before, but no one has tied it to a phone experience,” said Kevin Drew Davis, EVP, Executive Creative Director, Digitas. “We’ve taken cinema from the silver screen to your mobile phone, all while activating a social community that can spread the word outside the theater.”
"Our mission was to create something that would take full advantage of the power and scale of a cinematic experience," said Michael Boychuk, SVP, Executive Creative Director, Leo Burnett. "We challenged ourselves to shoot Dream without any computer-generated graphics and instead used a full-size art installation. We wanted to make sure the film was captivating, so much that opting-in to the mobile experience was a no-brainer, and I think we accomplished that."
The personalized dream is developed over a two-hour period and leverages Facebook activity – photos and specified interests – to create a dream relevant to each user’s phone. In addition, users can easily share the personalized dream with friends and followers via Facebook, Twitter and other social networks.
Sprint’s interactive cinema experience, Dream, will be available in NCM Movie Theaters until the end of 2012.

Highlights From The Normal Heart
----- Jim on Broadway!!! Thanks to fuckyeahbazinga for the link! Jim on 01:38 as the "Southern Bitch" Tommy Boatwright. :) I wish I could live in New York, I wanna see this play, it seems really interesting and real. (too bad I live in the other side of the World) :P Besides Jim takes photos with the fans every night. So that's a PLUS. ---- I miss Pushing Daisies and Lee Pace ---- OUT OF TOPIC COMMENT ------ Larry Kramer's groundbreaking drama about "a city in denial" during the beginning of the AIDS epidemic finally receives a Broadway production after 26 years. Tony-winning director Joe Mantello makes a rare return to acting as Ned Weeks, a hot-headed activist trying — along with a tight-knit group of friends — to get doctors, politicians and the press to address the impending AIDS crisis in 1980s New York City. Tony and Oscar-winning actor Joel Grey (who starred in the original Public Theater version of The Normal Heart in 1985) co-directs with Tony-winning director George C. Wolfe.

TIM MILLER - GLORY BOX
for video info www.TimMillerPerformer.com Tim Miller performs a section from his show GLORY BOX at The Cleveland Public Theatre. GLORY BOX is a funny, sexy and charged exploration of Tim Miller's journeys through the challenge of love, gay marriage, and the struggle for immigration rights for gay Americans and their partners from other countries. From Miller's hilarious grade school playground battles over wanting to marry another boy to the harrowing travails of being in a bi-national relationship with his Australian lover, GLORY BOX leads the audience on an intense and humorous journey into the complexity of the human heart that knows no boundary. GLORY BOX (the term that Australians use for "hope chest") conjures an alternative site for the placing of memories, hopes and dreams of gay people's extraordinary potential for love.
