Christopher Doyle Masterclass in Cinematography
From the "BBC Culture Show" (The best of the week's arts and culture news, covering books, art, film, architecture and more). London - United Kingdon Christopher Doyle - Cinematographer: "You see the world, you end up in jail three or four times, you accumulate experience. And it gives you something to say. If you don't have anything to say then you shouldn't be making films. It's nothing to do with what lens you're using." mubi.com Biography: en.wikipedia.org Also check: 'Film Studies: 180° Degree Rule' www.youtube.com Also Check: The Robert Rodriguez: 10 Minute Film School (The 1st & Original) www.youtube.com

Cinematography Tutorial: Using Flags to Control Shadow and Light
More lighting tutorials on our blog at: www.lightsfilmschool.com Cinematography Tutorial: Flags are pieces of black duvetyne held together by metal frames. Flags are generally held up by c-stands in an effort to cut or shape light and provide "negative fill". It's important to mention that when using c-stands you should first position your flag exactly as you want it with the c-stand joints loose. Then when your flag is ready, tighten the c-stand joints in order to secure the precise position of the flag. This will not only help you precisely establish where your shadows will fall, but it will also save you a lot of time during your setup. Many independent filmmakers rather than using black fabric flags and c-stands, will instead use tripods, clamps and black foam core. A large piece of black foam core can be purchased from an art supply store for around $10-$15 and it will have essentially the same impact. In fact, virtually any opaque object can be used to flag light. Where to position your flag? Continue reading on our blog: www.lightsfilmschool.com

Media Mayhem - Legendary Cinematographer Haskell Wexler talks Wall Street, Torture, American Values
EPISODE SYNOPSIS: This week's show brings legendary cinematographer and firebrand Haskell Wexler into the studio to discuss the ongoing face of truth in the media. Detailing some of the history of his sparkling and muck-raking career, from the Chicago 1968 Democratic Convention riots to the current Occupy movement, Mr. Wexler illuminates the necessity to bring truth to the public through film and journalism. GUEST BIO: Haskell Wexler is one of the most important cinematographers working in the film industry today. His work has spanned six decades. He shot his first film in 1947. He's photographed a wide range of films that have earned him five Academy Award nominations and two Oscars for Best Cinematography. He won Academy Awards for his work on Mike Nichols' WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF and Hal Ashby's BOUND FOR GLORY. Wexler is also known for his work on ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT and THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR to name just a few. He's also done television work, earning an Emmy nod for the lensing of the HBO movie 61*, directed by Billy Crystal. As a director, Wexler made over fifty documentaries including, MEDIUM COOL, a groundbreaking film shot during the Democratic convention in Chicago and LATINO in Nicaragua which received a special honor at Cannes Film Festival. He's also directed the documentaries THE BUS, BUS II and BUS RIDERS UNION; INTRODUCTION TO THE ENEMY, shot in Vietnam with Jane Fonda; INTERVIEWS WITH MY LAI VETERANS, which ...
